I'm turning FREAKING 60!!!! on Monday (Yes, I'm old!😂😋😂) and this took me right back!! I had goosebumps on every one of these! Thanks for a GREAT Birthday episode! 😍🐱
People seem to think that Rupert Holmes' "Escape/The Pina Colada Song" is a romantic ballad but when you listen to the story, it's really just a song about a jaded couple finding sneaky ways to cheat on each other. You can even hear the disappointment in HER voice when she says, "Ah, it's you."
One of the members of Player,Ron Moss(the guy in red in the video)played the original Ridge Forrester on “The Bold And The Beautiful” for its first 25 years from 1987-2002.
Entertaining episode of React. Jaxon has so much music knowledge and is such an old soul. Jason and Jaden/Angel and her mother are such great parent and child duos. Dani had great commentary
This is my kinda music! I could hang out with Jason AND Jackson. They knew all the songs. Lol I went on a road trip to see the Doobie Brothers (mostly Michael McDonald) last year. They still sound great! RIP to Bobby Caldwell 🕊️
“Right down the Line” by Gerry Rafferty is such a beautiful song he wrote for his wife; he is also responsible for “Baker Street” which everyone knows by the opening of the saxophone
This was a really cool episode. Really loved seeing Jason. He’s one of my all time favorite adult Reactors. Never heard of yacht rock until today. I actually knew quite a bit of these songs.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. My mom and dad came from poverty into the middle class and I grew up listening to the Doobie's, McDonald etc. My dad was a mechanic and my mom a nurse. It was not aspirational. They just made good music. I listen to it myself, b/c so much music sucks now.
Summer Breeze has been a favorite of mine since it first came out. Thinking of it helped me get through some pretty tough times during military deployments overseas. And thank you for transporting me to my teenage years.
"Summer Breeze".... omg takes me right back to my childhood in Charleston, SC. I can close my eyes when that song is on and hear, see, and smell the ocean, feel that sea spray and the sand beneath my feet. Those were the days when I was happy just to be alive.
Born in 68, I grew up with all these songs on the radio. I mean, good music is good music. Hard rock in the 80s put a nail in the coffin of this kind of music.
Born n 67". And it ABSOLUTELY DID NOT. "Everybody wants to Rule the World"! Hello. Very similar vibe. And...to this day one of the most popular songs from the 80s era. In fact, has made a comeback of sorts in last coupla years. Can name at least a dozen more Yahct Rockish songs from the 80s.
I just want to say thank you to @React for all these music videos and i hope they never stop. Y'all are picking up the void that Glee filled in introducing people to all kinds of music from different genres/eras and it's something that's very much needed bc music is so beautiful and timeless. I've literally bought so much more music since y'all started these up again and I'm so grateful/thankful.
In the movie RIPD Ryan Reynolds asks what’s up with the Steely Dan that was playing in the background and the lady just says, “it’s always playing, it seem to relax people”. That’s what yacht rock is all about.
@@kbrewski1 Steely Dan is my favorite “band” ever. You can say they aren’t technically a band or yacht rock but the fact is that they don’t fit into any genre which means they fit into every genre incl yacht rock. @@mikewritz They have songs that fit the yacht rock vibe. “Only a Fool” “Time out of mind “ “Peg”, as shown. I don’t get why some my fellow old folk are getting so divisive about it. Edit “Babylon Sisters”! Excellent example!
@@kellyalves756 I ageee 100%. Practically the entire Gaucho album could be considered “Yacht rock”. You just can’t put steely dan into one category. It’s s song by song basis with them.
There used to be a cover band in the late 2000’s in Atlanta called Yacht Rock Revue. Followed them to nearly every club in the area. Good music, fun times.
"Toni Tenille always reminds me of somebody's mom who had a few too many daiquiris and got on the karaoke machine. You're just embarrassed for everyone involved." -- Todd in the Shadows. I like a lot of their stuff but... yeah, I can see it. :P

A fight is getting ready to break out and Chris Farley’s character is at the jukebox and someone asks him if he has a song for this. “Hell yeah! Rolling Stones! Street Fighting Man! G-sevennnn!” “You just hit G-8” “If you like piña coladas…”
Summer Breeze is in the “Dazed and Confused” movie at the end when the freshman little brother got a ride home from the Soph girl and they stopped & laid a blanket on the side of the road to…
Yooooo! I thought What A Fool Believes was my favorite Yacht Rock song but I didn't know we classified How Much I Feel and Do For Love as it too. Those two take the cake! Also...Amish Leprechaun...🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
This is just blue eyed soul music, I feel like 98 percent of the songs shown here were played in black radio stations as well, it crossed over heavily. HEAVILY, lol.
I am 53 years old in grew up in Miami, so yeah, Rock was a big deal for us growing up. I have a 14-year-old daughter and let me tell you she knows one of these songs!
Where I grew up in the seventies and eighties, this music was called soft rock. 😂
Thank you...I was about to say the same. Never heard of yacht rock. Something they just made up obviously.
Agree
I grew up with both terms. I do prefer the term Soft Rock though.
Right!
Elevator rock 😄
Jaxson was raised correctly! Ms. Kia and Angel is a vibe... Definitely my favorite 2!
We just called it soft rock in the 70's
"They smoked a blunt before this"........ They're called THE DOOBIE BROTHERS for a reason 🤣🤣
Jaxon gives me hope for the future. It’s refreshing to know someone of his age and from his generation knows and loves this great music!
Until he said he doesn’t really like Fleetwood Mac

This episode took me back baby, to the good old-fashioned days who knew I love yacht music.🥰💃🏾
Jaxson singing and knowing many of these songs, made me adore him more! Kid has good taste! Good job parents!

RIP Bobby Caldwell, this video came out just a day or two before he passed away 😢
Yacht rock basically equals soft rock. Because growing up in the 80s, all of this is music I heard on the radio. This would be played on KOST or KBIG.
Yup, now it's 'Classic Soft Rock.'
in the philippines, they all came under the tag "cruisin' collection". now i know why 😄 thanks so much for this. glad the kids liked it, too.
That guys dad just living his best life
One girl was thinking of "Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder. So glad she figured it out.
That was the highlight to me. I can't believe she knew that.
Steely Dan is it's own genre. No other music is as clean and pure as "the Dan"!
Yacht Rock is just another name for Soft Rock, which is what it was originally called back during its 70s heyday.
“Right down the Line” by Gerry Rafferty is such a beautiful song he wrote for his wife; he is also responsible for “Baker Street” which everyone knows by the opening of the saxophone
Gerry Rafferty is genius.
This is from my younger years and I was born in the early 70’s so I grew up with this music and I still listen to it

This is Soft Rock ... no-one who listened to soft rock thought they would go cruising on, let alone own, a yacht.

Fleetwood Mac Dreams: "I knew it before it blew up on Tik Tok". omg. wtf.
Kids... what can you do? LMAO
I suspect Jaxon grew up in a record store.. surrounded with vinyls and cassettes..
jason has always been one of my favorite adult/parent reactors. i just love his music knowledge. it always amazes me.
I always heard this stuff referred to as “Easy Listening.” Literally never heard the term “Yacht Rock.”

I have to admit I was surprised at how many of those songs the kids knew or even liked. Makes me feel less old. Lol
Movie soundtracks.
48 year old GenX here and I love Yacht rock!
All this time I never knew that the Isley Brothers covered Summer Breeze!!!
They were big Type O Negative fans.
RIP Bobby Caldwell
Omg these hats crack me up! The 70s early 80s vibe of soft rock was my Era. Love this got relabled yacht rock, it's fitting.
I was a little disappointed there was no Little River Band. Lonesome Loser, Lady, and especially Reminiscing.
"Summer Breeze".... omg takes me right back to my childhood in Charleston, SC. I can close my eyes when that song is on and hear, see, and smell the ocean, feel that sea spray and the sand beneath my feet. Those were the days when I was happy just to be alive.

Summer breeze was fantastically covered by the Isley brothers with a killer guitar solo

At the beginning I was like ‘Player - Baby Come Back’ better be there! Good 😂👍
The Isley Brothers' Summer Breeze will forever be the best version of that song
If there's ever a Yacht Rock 2 video, can we please have Jason & Jaxon together. I'd just love to see them both belting out the songs together.
I love how they take one song out of catalogs from groups that have a hundred songs and classify it as yacht rock.
efgeLORD
The correct term is Smooth Music, as in when Michael McDonald tells Toto, "I will do ANYTHING for Smooth Music."
We used to call this in the seventies Soft Rock music
I have never in my life heard the term yacht rock and I am almost 60 years of age.
Teens React to 80s Yacht Rock with songs mostly from the 70s
In the movie RIPD Ryan Reynolds asks what’s up with the Steely Dan that was playing in the background and the lady just says, “it’s always playing, it seem to relax people”. That’s what yacht rock is all about.

"I knew about this song before Tik Tok" is soul crushing
I keep forgettin michael mcdonald is what Warren G sampled for Regulators!
And Bobby Caldwell is what Tupac used for Do for love!

Oh?
I raised my kids on 80's music, and now my grandkids know some too!

Both soundtracks of Guardians of the Galaxy are Yacht rock music, because they are salling the galaxy.
