    I like the "light" grey color you used on the hull. In my opinion, it is more effective to paint the light and shadow tone of a chosen color, rather than so-called "paint-chip" dogma or declared color orthodoxy for scale models - especially with ship models.

    Nice, honest comments about the photo etch. I often limit my PE to the railings and cranes on 1/450 and 1/350 models. I don't see the point at 1/700.

      I'm pretty sure that with my eyes, I wouldn't even see 1/700 railings haha.

    There are no color photographs because color film hadn't been invented. However, We do have the original Admiralty specifications. The bottom of the hull was a deep red. The Tamiya 'Hull Red', is way too dark. A lot of the oil paintings have the colors pretty much correct. ^_*

    None of the photographs I have found show a black 'boot strap'

      Its actually called a " Boot Top "
