To say that this verdict won't effect Trump's political standing is to express a very low opinion of the American people. It would be truly shocking if every one of those who have supported him so far decide they would still vote for a convicted fraudster and confirmed rapist. There must be some Republicans around who have scruples, and maybe a conscience - mustn't there?
If you are Repub but not a maga zealot, if you dare to use common sense to find common ground that will enable you to get sensible legislation passed, if you persist in declaring the emperor is in fact NOT wearing any clothes...you are persona non grata in the GOP. Previous polls have shown that a conviction will sharply reduce his support among independents and also somewhat reduce his support among Republican voters. It will likely make no difference to the dwindling number of MAGA cultists who will be keen to donate their last dollar to this "so-called" billionaire. Trump cannot win.
This will actually gain new voters for Trump. Polling is already showing that. Don't worry, though, there will be more chaos to come.
