That startup screen logo is actually sick. Ive never really seen a good one before! lol
Hi! Nice unit you’ve picked up. It’s nice to see videos about these smaller form factor units. Finished resurrecting a 6041QM recently and its been fun to play around with. Looking at the cable setup you have, the N64 seems to have its standard Composite video output. A single 75-Ohm BNC to RCA adaptor is sufficient to connect the N64 composite signal directly to the composite (“Video”) input of the TV. No additional cabling is required. The SCART breakout cable, at the moment, is likely just passing through the composite signal unaltered. As another commenter mentioned, if you do connect an RGB device to your breakout cable, you’d just have to move the yellow composite (video + combined sync) cable over to the “Sync” terminal on the RGB input row, toggle the “EXT” sync and switch to “RGB” source in the front panel of the PVM on the left-hand side. Sorry for the late reply! You're absolutely right. I was extremely new to the PVM scene when I set this up so I didn't know much at the time but have learnt a hell of a lot since then. I also have a new video coming out this Sunday so stay tuned my friend, and thank you for the advice!
What an awesome video :). The PVM looks stunning, hope you had a blast using it for the last 6 months :).
Thank you very much!
It’s been a lovely surprise seeing this video take off!
It kick started my PVM obsession!
They are so cute! Probably quite horrendous for long play sessions but still, very cool. Nice video!
Thanks man! I love them, still got it. Appreciate it!
Aha! I had to stop myself bidding on this one. I wanted it just because of the size, but I didn’t need it and had just bought a regular CRT. So glad to see this has gone to a good home :-)
No way thats class! And thank you man :) the BEST home it could of gone to!
Hey mate! Love the video and love the PVM EVEN MORE! I bought one however it’s the 8inch screen and absolutely love it. I’m glad your happy with your tv. Cheers! From Arizona, USA.
Thank you so much my friend! Very kind of you to say and I'm super glad that you now have your very own 8" PVM!
Come back Sunday for a brand new video, I think you're gonna love it :)
Great video mate. Really enjoyed that 👏🏻
Cheers Ken! Glad you liked it :)
Amazing stuff, mate. I’m interested in getting a PVM too although I doubt I’ll look after it as professionally as you did!
Thank you very much mate :) I can't recommend them enough!
Years ago I bought one of these off eBay for £26 - wanted a bigger CRT but just didn't have the space at home! It's still going strong, hooked up to my Wii with 240p output and lots of virtual console titles on to go. Some people say the screen size is unbearable but I have it set up close, on the shelf next to my PC desk and I like to play while waiting in lobbies or for friends on my PC. Squeezing more time for games into each hour!
A CRT for Ants
Gamer Ants! 😎 Just need to find some pads for them...
Lol... You made me laugh...
Great video mate! Next step is to RGB mod your N64!
Thank you mate!! Just talking to somebody now about getting the parts to mod my N64 :)
Got one of these ages ago. Though nice and cute, it's tiring on the eyes with the low resolution. Mine also has convergence issues near the edges which can't be corrected with static correction -- there's no dynamic adjustment on these small tubes.
Sorry yours has issues man.
They’re lovely monitors, especially when playing a console in RGB.
Not the most comfortable size for gaming on but a beautiful piece of technology to be admired!
Can you help me with this doubt ?
What happens if you connect the N64 with only the composite cable to the PVM? Does the image come out black and white?
I ask this because I have an 8" PVM and it doesn't come out with a color image on my N64 but on other consoles it does, but my PVM doesn't have a component cable input so I can't use the cable you used in the video.
Nice watch! Great video!
Thank you very much mate!!
Hi, are there washers on the corner bolts attaching the glass in front of the CRT face?
Just so you know, if you are just inserting composite, the RGB cables do not need to be plugged in.
If you are plugging in RGBs, and not Ypbpr/Ycbcr, you SHOULD have a sync signal plugged in, as well. ...there is sync-on-green video standard (the sync travels on the green viddeo signal), but mainly only Sony consoles utilize this form of RGB. You will know if something outputs this signal, because older manuals will specify it as RGsB.
Hi mate!
Thank you very much for taking the time to give me some great tips!
This was the very beginning of my PVM journey so if I’m honest I was kinda winging it when I was setting it up and shortly after, when I discovered how to set up RGB, I realised I’d done it all wrong in the video!
If you watch my latest video I mention that :)
Thanks though man!
@@didsomebodysayretro Yeah, when I made this comment, I hadn't seen your newest PVM video, where you do address do this wrong.
I still did not take this comment down though, because a new person into PVMs might see this video, and think it is hooked up correctly. If they see my comment, it might inspire them to research how to correctly insert a video/audio signal into a PVM/BVM.
In your set up, nothing bad would have happened, because the N64 does not natively output RGBs, it was outputting composite. If it had been outputting RGBs... it might have caused your PVM damage, because it would have been doing so, without an external sync signal connected.
I have a question. Since PVMs and BVMs are Multi-Format that can detect NTSC, PAL, and SECAM signals, will they also work with multiple voltage standards from 100V to 240V without the need for a step-up or step-down power transformer and do they come with multiple plug outlet adaptors for different electrical plug outlets used by other countries?
Hi! Thank you for your question, I'm going to be totally honest and say that I don't know the answer unfortunately!
The guy with the knowledge is Retro Tech :)
Most of the PVMs and BVMs need transformers.
dearest i am bibiretrogames, i watched your video very illustrative and enlightening, i understood well how it works, really useful it helped me a lot, thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏
Hi fella just bought a pvm9042qm Sony but cant get it to connect to my retro consoles. Is there any way you can help. Be great if I could contact you send you some photos and see if we can get this up and running.
Hey man! Yeah of course. Send me some photos and description in an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Show me how you’re connecting it all, including the sticker on the bottom of the console that details the region. Not sure if RUclips allows putting an email address in a comment but if you just go to my instagram account of the same name and hit the email button please. Thank you!
I used to have a tiny TV screen like this. I hooked up my Wii to it haha. It was so adorable lmao
Haha thats amazing!
With component cables? 🤔
Where was the cables from ?
The tiny Sony is longer than your big ass Toshiba TV!
I like CRT a lot. Good video, I have no doubt it would look awesome, but I think it would be too small for playing videogames at least for me...
Need to see what an RGB signal looks like on it next :-)
I’ve been recommended that on my IG too so now ive got the itch to mod a console to RGB!
Did Somebody Say Retro? You’ve got RGB enabled consoles already from what I’ve seen :-) just need the right cables if you haven’t already got them. PAL N64 is the odd one out, but I best most of the rest of you machines are RGB already
Pete me old cocker. Hows it going?
Ooooh that sounds very exciting! Do you have any recommendations on what cable I should get for my consoles?
Would love to talk with you more on this, direct message through my Instagram or Facebook page would be better if you’re okay with that?
Thanks in advance!

Nice video, what anti flickering app did you use on your phone? :)
Its called ‘DSLR Camera’
It’s free, and when you take a photo change the shutter speed to 1/50, or 1/60 if you’re in the states :)
You got any Gameboy Micro videos?
Some kid long ago let me play his Gameboy Micro and it was cool. I kinda wanted one ever since. Man, they are expensive for their size.
Hi! I dont actually own one funnily enough, and youre absolutely rigjt theyre really expensive man! I won one on eBay before but the seller just never sent it and i havent bid on another one since! They are cool little things though :)
i found one for 50 euros, you think deserve to be buy? no bag, more bad condition compared to yours, some corrosion on the upped body
50 Euros? Man if it works I'd definitely go for that!
Did you pay a lot for it?
£112 :)
Should i get this or the 9 inch?
Me personally I prefer the 6” but the 9” is better to play on :)
@@didsomebodysayretro I see thanks. I have given up on getting one since asking that question due to all the hazzle to import one from japan haha
6041qm what i know is 5041qm
