I Was Humbled Big Time

  • I've been wanting to get back into welding after taking a few classes in high school. Having a farm, it's a valuable skill to have to be able to fix metal equipment that's broken, or to build and modify things to better suit our needs. This Troozy stick welder humbled me at first, but I was able to get the hang of it after a bit. These are my first impressions.

I still turn my head or close my eyes when Jack starts to weld. Old habits are hard to break.

I was an aircraft welder in the Air Force, certified on titanium, aluminum, stainless, etc. then welded in a quarry after. Practice practice practice. Learn what a good weld looks like and sounds like as you are welding. You have good basics, keep going! If you are going to build something like a trailer, please get an experienced welder to check your work before heading out on the road….
I think I’m going to have to look into one of those little buzz boxes…😊

I use 7014 rod for everything and I've welded boat trailers made up made my own boat trailers made my own utility trailers while that RV frames truck frames it's an all purpose rod and very easy for its starters

I had an old Lincoln “tombstone” stick welder. It was good for really thick material but I pretty much hated it. This one looks more handy for thinner projects, which is most of what I do. I bought a used Hobart wire feed mig welder which is absolutely a joy to weld with.

I enjoyed that you didn't read the manual, same as I do (or don't). Thank you for introducing me to welding, I haven't done it before. My older brother has, but he doesn't exactly stand there and do "how-to's-for-dummies". Rather he does it on oil platforms in the north sea. You're not the dummy, I am. My beard's not as long as yours, so I assume mine won't catch on fire. If it does, I won't mention your channel, don't worry x)

I wasn't in the market for a welder. But, with that price and a current $50 off coupon....... Heheh

I gotta say, that's better than I expected. It was cool to see how quickly you got better at your passes. An easy to use welder indeed. I wonder if a TIG setup could be paired with that? If the amperage is stable down low it could make for a handy-dandy sheet metal TIG welder on the cheap. Just a thought.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. It would be nice to have a TIG torch and a small bottle of Argon handy for working on aluminum or thin stuff. With that, a small farm would have most of their bases covered.

A good welder doesn't need a brush and a hammer goodwill are the flux peels off their weld as their welding when it cools down it lifts up off the weld And most buzz boxes come with no longer 6 foot lines unless you're into industrial welder and you buy an aftermarket lines for your welder

When your rod is long you have a little less control. +as you weld the base metal comes up to temp and the arc flows better, typically why is seems to get easier as the rod shortens.

Hello Jack. I think you are going to have a lot of fun with this . I taught myself how to weld when we bought our little tractor, and am amazed at how useful and fun that skill has been. All the best, Ben

Wow ! That little welder is impressive. Did it ever get too hot or need time to recover before continuing? I like to do a figure 8 or side to side to get wider welds and I believe it help penitrate into metal. By all means I am not a expert just throwing it out there.

You need to weld with your electoral on an angle not straight down strike it like a match just start it and that spotty message around your weld and your welds not laying flat that's the type of rod you have that's why I like 7014 because it has no spatter and it lays flat but just remember you move your rod like a conductor does his arm when he conducts an orchestra A lot of times you're starting stop when you're doing your rod is every time you shake or move while you're welding it loses connection that's why I don't use an buzz box much anymore because I don't have a steady hand

Hi. I threw you a video, only there you need to watch through translation because there he speaks Russian. Without any politics, believe me, he built the house himself, keeps the farm: chickens, a piglet (recently started) bees, apartment repairs, stoves, cars, and so on. Honestly interesting.

You have to move your stick just like you would do if you were a conductor conducting music a little bit up across up across like a small use back and forth back and forth not just straight And stay away from your 18 like 7018 rods stick to something like 7014 that's what I use on mostly everything and if you wanna go flat welding like about what you're doing on that flat piece of steel you can go 7100 if you're doing dirty oily steel go 6013 Then the thicker the metal the thicker the rod
