'Dark water' also suggests that a relationship is hard work and by both the swans ducking their heads into the dark water, this indicates that in a relationship both of the people in the relationship have to put in the work, even though it might not be that pretty and nice, suggested by the word 'dark' which shows that it's not pleasant and that a relationship is not always sunshine and rainbows - which can also be connected to the swans beautiful apperance, which suggests that they are perfect and by the swans putting their heads into the dark water it shows that to have a 'perfect' relationship you need to be willing to do the hard work and put your head into the 'dark water'.
I am Mr bruffs son (not really). But seriously I knew they have never put that poem in the exam and it has the reputation for being quite dumb and all over the place. It is a good test for students who did not learn it thinking it will not come up so it will catch people out, like the Romeo and Juliet extract from A3S5.
Hello from Woodroffe year 10! We use your work in our English lessons and it's a brilliant alternative to picking things out ourselves, thanks a bunch and keep up the good work! :)
It's also a good idea to begin practicing picking things out yourself, with no help at all, as this skill is essential for the unseen poetry section. Perhaps its good to google random poets and practice on their poetry :)
Hey Mr Bruff, Its a pleasure to talk to you. I just got my mock results and received a 3. 😬 I ordered two e-books English language and Macbeth on Tuesday but they haven't arrived yet and I haven't received a mail saying when they will come. I really need these books to help with my grades, please help!
both show fufilling relationships, a calm and happy ending. they both have something influencing them, in singh song its the shop preventing them from being together, however their strong romance still brings them together. With WS , its the swans that brings them together again, showing something as simple as two animals can bring romantic lovers back together again. Sorry for this lengthy explanation but reading your comment i just had a brain flash and i have my mock on this tomorrow LOL
Hey Mr Bruff, I am about to sit my gcse exams in 2017 and i need some help to finding the right revision guides you have on you website... Shall i get Romeo and Juliet, Inspector calls and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde or English Language and Literature... Because the language and lit has all the stuff needed but the individual books are specific to their books... Which one shall i get...??
I love poetry so much. Do you have any recommendations about which poets to analyse for unseen poetry revision? I have Plath, Eliot, Siken and Wilde collections, but they're very hard to analyse...
Honestly such a legend @mrbruff so many people would fail without you wow, also follow mrbruffisgod of Instagram it's my friends fan account for you #kingbruff
This series is massively helping me annotate all the poems in my english lit poetry anthology! Thank you so much! I'm struggling to write about context and the effect on the reader with this poem. Any help would be much appreciated! :)
it is quite meaningful though. It contrasts well with when we two parted as their relationship is broken throughout but in Winter Swans the relationship comes together.

I'm not a fan of this poem simply because it's not controversial enough
it is quite meaningful though. It contrasts well with when we two parted as their relationship is broken throughout but in Winter Swans the relationship comes together.
What is the form of this poem?
It doesn't follow any specific form.
