As a plant n00b it’s nice to see that alocasia black velvet was rare 3 years ago is now going for $14 USD in big box stores, since I find them soooo pretty!
every year my grandma plants assorted caladiums in her front flower bed. i always loved helping plant them and watching them grow! gorgeous colors every year
Will you do a care video on the caladium? We have these in abundance at our local nurseries and I cannot for the life of me figure out the proper care for it. I had that exact one as well.
I have a strawberry star caladium and making her happy was a little tricky for me (their leaves are so delicate)! They like to be root bound and get really tight in the pot. Mine is happiest right up against a northwest facing window, however when it gets warm I have to pull her back or else she starts to get little brown spots. Also high humidity, but I'm sure you'll have no problems with that! Good luck!
I just got an Alocasia black velvet together with an Alocasia silver dragon, both were only €4! Shipping was also only €4 so super cheap. The black velvet only has two leaves but is in good shape, the silver dragon has about 6 leaves and is also doing great.
The caladium is just awesome! I found out that those are bulb plants so they lose leaves when going dormant. Also in my country it really cheap to buy bulbs to plant:) it's about £2😆
And now I want a caladium, even if I clearly don’t have space anymore in my apartment 🙈 The philo prince of orange is super cute! Can’t wait for your monsteras videos! 💚
Caladium rare plant index? I've recently discovered these as a newer plant mom and I would love to see more if you have any extra time. I know you are super busy! Love all your videos. I've been learning a lot from you!
Black velvet has always been on my wishlist since the early 2000's but I've been afraid of killing it. The thaumatophyllum african fantasy is absolutely stunning.
The baby Phil!! So cute to see, that was one of the first plants I ever bought and it holds a special place in my heart. I still have mine, but he has never been a happy plant, extremely prone to dry brown tips AND moldy infections (though to be fair, he was in poor shape when I got him). Still trying to find the right humidity balance!
Caladium does fantastic in full sun BUT keeps its color way better if you do partial shade with these guys:) they also LOVE acidic soil!! Emily PS great video thank you so much for sharing Kaylee!
ILLUM• LIFE do I need to let my caladium go dormant? I guess I don’t really know how to word what I’m trying to ask, but allow it or aid my caladium in some way, so it can rest for the winter?
I love your new caladium!!! I have one of a different variety and they definitely like shade and do not like too much water. Very easy little fragile thing.
Beautiful plants! I just got my first caladium last week and I absolutely love it. So gorgeous. I also just ordered an Alocasia Black Velvet yesterday and can not wait to receive him. I’m growing my Alocasia collection and so excited! I have an Alocasia Amazonica, Regal Shield and Zebrina so The black velvet will be my 4th one!
Hey :) could you please make a video about the differnces of aroids. Like how do I know if its syngonium or alocasia or philodendron etc. ? And what are the differences between marantas.. stromanthes and calatheas and ctenanthes ?
Marantas, stromanthes, calathea and ctenanthe are all in the same family called Marantaceae ☺️ that’s why they’re all so similar. A video about this would be super fun, though. A more sciencey explaination.
I'm loving your new plant babies, I also found that what is considered rare there in the UK is not so much here in the US, so it's kind of a trade off of sorts. The Caladium White Queen I have seen here, but it's too delicate for me and I'm chicken to get it for now, also the Dieffenbachia Camouflage is available here as well. The Prince of Orange is so adorable and I would love to find one that size, it also is available here just super expensive because all I have seen are larger ones, one of the RUclipsrs that I follow found one at a local grocery store for under 10.00 US, so I just have to hunt a little more. The Alocasia Reginula Black Velvet is also available here, just once again super expensive, I just want the regular one, the Elephant Ears one.I loved this video, it has given me more plants to add to my wish list, so thank you Kaylee for sharing, have fun with all of your new plant babies and see you in your next video, bye for now.
I LOVE that little alocasia! Mine just popped out a new leaf and I am overjoyed 😊 I don’t know much about caladium, but we have a ton of them in the landscaping around here in Florida.
I'm very curious how your caladium will survive/thrive. In the states, as other comments suggest, they are outside plants. Obvious beauties, I've wanted one as a houseplant but didn't feel like being disappointing at the idea of watching it wither away...so I never bothered. But since you are attempting it, I hope you master it and can be a good reference to teach others how to give it indoor care.
I've never had a caladium as a houseplant, only potted on the porch and patio during warmer months. I'm curious to see how they do, please keep us updated as my nursery has many beautiful varieties I'd love displayed in my home :)
Love your videos! I am so surprised that caladiums are considered houseplants now. All my life they were bedding bulbs for outdoor shade gardens. Now I see them on so many YT videos as house plants. I almost tried buying one the other day and changed my mind because I couldn’t get past it. Lol I look forward to hearing how well it does for you indoors. There are so many in beautiful colors.
I just recently got my first caladium, I got the miss muffit caladium. I live in the states, in north carolina, so its warm and humid here right now. I'm keeping mine outside in a pot, in full sun and its thriving! So. Maybe that helps you a bit?
I'm from NC also and I have my caladiums planted in my yard all year. They are in ground next to the house. If u have them planted in pots and outside I would bring the pot in during winter to a garage or basement. Somewhere cool but not winter cold. Depending on which part of NC u live at depends on if u can keep it out all winter. Anything left of Raleigh will be fine outside. Piedmont and foot hills u can leave it outside until it snows. Then just put it in a cool spot. Anything west of 77 bring them in if they are in pots. Hope that helps.
There's a 5 gallon Camo Diffenbachia at my local nursery that I've had my eyes on for the past month now! They are such gorgeous plants!! Plus diffenbachia's are SO easy!! Caladiums are used as bedding plants here in Louisiana, haha! They are so pretty tho! They love humidity, plus it helps their thin leaves. That philodendron is gorgeous girl!! Where'd you get these plants?? 😍😍
OMG your thaumatophyllum is perfect!! i just got a philodendron xanadu which has also apparently been reclassified as a thauma, i have no idea what is going on with that tho 🤷🤷
The African Fantasy you showed looks like it grows like my philodendron selloum which is a tree type philodendron and not vine at all, so I am sure that where that comes from.
Hi Kaylee, I love your Caladium and have been looking for one for some time now. Any chance you could tell me where I could find one. Would be much appreciated 😁😁😁
Miniature painting I am in North Carolina USA.. we have them in every plant store around. If you can’t find one.. let me know, I would be happy to pick up a few different kinds and send them to you (I don’t exactly know how they would do in the mail.. but we could try).
@@kaitlynmoose ahh, that is so kind of you and really appreciate the really kind gesture. I have one supplier in the UK trying to source a few for me and if this don't prove fruitful then I would love to take you up on your offer. Just to let you know, I live in the UK.
So glad you featured a caladium. I think these are underrated plants. I have several planted it the ground outside and will bring in the bulbs in the fall. I just started to grow one indoors as a houseplant. Trying to keep it always moist. I don't know if it will go dormant or not. I suspect it will. Looking forward to what you find in your research. Thanks for another great vid.
Absolutely love your videos! Congrats on the Black Velvet. Been wanting one forever. I would love to see you a video on what to do if you do get crispy tips, if you have any tips on it. I have a Calethea who is a bit of a diva and I would love to give him the sexy tips he deserves.
Inger-Maren Fjeldheim a cool mist humidifier is a great investment ( I use the cheap equate one bc it's a plant lol) and maybe a bright north facing window got mine almost dying with brown sunburnt leaves and in two months I've gotten 6 new leaves
Hey Kaylee 💞 this video is what got me to add the thaumatophyllum to my wish list. How are they to care for and how do you propagate them anyway since they aren’t philos?
I like that you introduce new species😀 Do you know what are the care and conditions for the ginger plant? I would like to buy alpinia zerumbet but read it is difficult to keep indoors:/
Caladium rare plant index??? Did you forget about this? I don't see one :( Will you please do one soon? I'm obsessed with caladium this season. I have 8 different types and want to know where they rank and what else I NEED 😅🤣🤣
I’ve seen this plant in a couple of your videos but I’m new collecting plants and I was wonder what plant it is the one sitting in the left with the white leafs

The plant porn at the end is very much appreciated. You really get to appreciate the details on color and form. Caladiums are underrated. I do like the different colors but I prefer the white varieties. Not much of a vibrant color kind of gal. That caladium is stunning. The details and markings and subtle red is impressive.

Danielle Gallegos did yours die off at the beginning of winter? Because if it did that’s perfectly normal, it just shoots up again in spring!
I have a strawberry star caladium and making her happy was a little tricky for me (their leaves are so delicate)!
They like to be root bound and get really tight in the pot. Mine is happiest right up against a northwest facing window, however when it gets warm I have to pull her back or else she starts to get little brown spots.

Yes! The black velvet alocasias are super easy to care for. I’ve had mine for just a couple of weeks and it’s just put out a new leaf!
I just got an Alocasia black velvet together with an Alocasia silver dragon, both were only €4! Shipping was also only €4 so super cheap. The black velvet only has two leaves but is in good shape, the silver dragon has about 6 leaves and is also doing great.
Enjoyed the plant haul and your new plants are gorgeous. Love the ending as we get to see a closeup of all the beautiful plants. Wow!!!
Yes!!! I just got into caladium! I have a white queen, red caladium, and a miss muffet! I'm obsessed with them! Can't wait for the rare plant index!
I just planted some white caladium bulbs
The caladium is just awesome! I found out that those are bulb plants so they lose leaves when going dormant. Also in my country it really cheap to buy bulbs to plant:) it's about £2😆
my fave is the caladium as i am growing some.
yes, they are turning out to be unexpectedly tall!
My caladium loves bright indirect sunlight. It likes to dry out a little before watering.I also keep it in a humid area
I have two Caladiums ( pink and green with red center) and I just love them. That black velvet looks amazing. I love your collection.

I love these Rare plant index videos!😁🌱 I hope to see the one for caladium index 😊💚
Also for an idea 💡 for your bedroom desk space. Try going vertical and get wall hangers!
After awhile caladiums like to go dormant. If so dig the bulb if its soft like a sponge it's dead if firm it will regrow.
Ugh, I NEED that caladium white queen!
So glad I stumbled upon your channel, I’ve been binging your videos the last couple days 😊
This is such a cool set of plants!! The caladium is beautiful

that caladium is BEAUTYFUL!!
My local greenhouse has hundreds of alocasia black velvet ! Almost got one but didn’t wanted to risk killing it.
Wow those all are so awesome!! The sizes "wow" me!
I'm in love with the Golden Dragon!
Thats amazing how the African fantasy grows more like a Alocasia.
