There's many reasons why someone would be watching math videos. But I will be giving one of the best reasons. Math is one of the best ways to give your brain a daily work out, which in return will cut your chances of being diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's by at least 30%.

Why do we not have to add our 2 factors to equal the middle term? The last simplification does not equal to -8x or -7x....first she says that we need to find two numbers that multiply that also add together to equal to the middle term...then in the last rational expression all we do is multiply and ignore that the two multiples do not add together to make the middle terms anymore...I am really confused and it hard to type out, but please anyone help me....we have (3x-6)(5x+2) which multiply to -12 but do not add to -8. Nanci Pi, MIT graduate, you’re smart and make Math beautiful just like you! You make math fun and doable. However, my son’s teacher will throw in exotic problems such as this: (2x-5)(x+3)/15-3x less or = 0. Where he has to graph the solution set and write it using interval notation. We have asked several people with our circle who are Math majors who get stumped because the haven’t had to do such problems in a long time. Teachers like the one my son has give Math a sour taste for kids who are already struggling. What is most frustrating to my son is that the teachers seems to work the easier problem in class on the board, but leave the more difficult ones for homework. Isn’t the goal to win kids to Math? Thank you in advance for helping to sweeten things up a bit for my son and so many others. 🙏 😃 Signed, A concerned, yet hopeful mom who wants her kids to love Math like you do! 🥰🤗❤️

Love your work, Nancy. I'm in the learning stage, but at 12:00 you wrote that -6 x 2 = -12 (correct), but -6 +2= -8 (incorrect). Am I off here?
I was just about to ask the same question, because -6+2 does not equal -8. However, when you try to prove it, it works out. So how is that possible?
Nancy please explain.
I think it’s supposed to be -6-2=-8
Same situation for the bottom part. -6+1=-5 not -7.
But at the same time -6*-2=12 so it would be wrong

Excellent instruction! And hilarious...thank you Nancy!
What did I miss? please help!????!!
Very use full Nancy ...👍👍❤
This was so helpful!!!! You are great! Thank you!
your explanations are great !! I get the understanding ..thank you
Big fan of your work!
Signed,
A concerned, yet hopeful mom who wants her kids to love Math like you do! 🥰🤗❤️
#nancypi you are the best, I understand every single video you upload. I have an A in math class because of you thank you! My teacher always complicates thing, and is not very clear.
