Great Video Nick !! Your The Man Superb Work !! That Cap Must Be Leaky a Bit Under Load Glad You Got It Working Thanks For Uploading Nick Regards mike.
The Maplin mosfet amp had a couple of problems. One was hum on the rails and other was some would break int oscillation. I fixed rails with 56R and 470uf. I increased small pf caps a little and oscillation went away.
Very strange Nick i cant off hand think of any test you could of done on that cap except maybe high voltage leakage .that would of found that fault .in fact that would not work either well done in tracking the fault down
Great result. Nice to see that sometimes a struggle leads to success. They are definitely the fixes I always feel best about. :)

Mods are great if they improve things. On mine I got a new pcb made for a few pounds with extra components on from China. It looks spot on.

Thanks Rob, they were fairly old capacitors but tested good for esr & capacitance
do you put the 1000uF cap from - and one from + to 0 point of supply on card?
Yes indeed, one goes from +50 to 0v & the other from -50 to 0v, keeps the supply at a low impedance
