The whole reason this is necessary is due to Dodge and emissions requirements of the time. To satisfy NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions requirements, Dodge retarded the injection timing on all Cummins trucks, at least up through 2002. The Dodge injection timing spec is about 13.5 deg. advance, and the normal industrial application spec is about 16 deg advance, depending on generation and specific injection pump. The 1/8" bump just puts the injection timing advance back to the industrial application spec.
Might have to do that next. Got 5 cummins, 3 that are 1st gens and 1 that is a cummins Ramcharger ;) Also gotta explain the benefits of the mod. Aloha and keep up the good work.

i have a 93 350 that is bone stock (and well taken care of) aside from the nv4500 swap. it has just over 200K miles and it seems like it has enough power to pull 20K pounds. i have only had the truck a few months and i see all these upgrades people are making to these engines and i ask myself if its worth it or not. certainly parts wear out, things go bad but i guess im just on fence about replacing these parts. i feel like most of these upgrades are just meant to blow more smoke out of the exhaust or lessen the life of the engine as theyre dumping more power into them. nonetheless these videos are very good!!
I wish you could’ve did a test drive so we could’ve heard the results one dude said he suspects if that picks up about 30 hp just using the dynamic timing to spacer I don’t know what the little extra bump on the static part of it maybe you might get 40 I don’t know
I did this mod on my 90 Non IC before finding this video. I used both of the stock shims along with the 1/4” washer that comes in the spacer kit. On cold start it idles too slow now until the ksb wax motor warms up and then idle returns to normal. I’m assuming it’s adding too much advance at cold start? Would removing that thick factory shim fix this issue? Anyone else had this happen?
Bought the ebay one... comes with three generic washers to use as spacers... not sure how many to use. Any ideas? What was the overall thickness of what you put in this truck?
Also is it possible the KSB can be stuck? My truck will not idle until it warms up......I must hold it above idle until it's warm then it runs fine....... Weird?
I'm running a 4M40 engine, after cleaning and calibrating the injectors, I got that se issue at cold start. I had to turn the main fuel screw 1/4 turn to ease the problem but still not sure of the real cause for that

If you loosen all the fuel lines to the injetors the pump should rotate by hand. But this is much faster. I do the same thing.

ended up breaking 3 wratchet straps and ended up grabbing the pump with oil filter pliers and pulled it up 1/8 inch
If im getting a little bit of white smoke, feels like diesel in exhaust. Should I add timing or take off?

When you do the pull over timing bump does that make it more difficult to get at that far back screw holding pump top on?
my pump does not have a ksb cannot find it anywhere on my pump at all !
Does the shim go in first, against the pump, or does the washer go against the pump?

Or low compression maybe? When the rings start to loosen up, it'll crank a lot before firing, might smoke a bit, but runs and idles fine when warn.

I did the timing bump and I didn't like how the truck sounded. Too clattery. Especially at about 2k rpm
Not putting that much stress on it
