- Scenes recorded on Saturday November 18th, 1995, of heritage Alco diesel locomotives 4490 & 4520 hauling freight train no.8941 from Lithgow to Orange as part of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of NSW railways.
Hi began does 4520 have a backfire problem or bad wheel slip problems as I noticed black plumes of smoke under heavy acceleration, fantastic video as usual
Very nice video, very much enjoyed it. Only thing is your title card at the start says it was for the “150th anniversary of railways”, I believe 1995 was the 140th. (Only reason I say that is I went to Central Station in 2005 for the 150th).
You are absolutely correct. I will alter the information.
Did these 2 locos change wagons because the load at the start of the video is not the same consist at around the 4:20 mark.
Awesome video!
Great video again.
NSW Loco's had such a great colour combo.
I don't think the smoking Alco's would pass the pub test today with climate change & lefties & greenies.
The 45 series loco's are the same as the 600 class loco's.
Somewhere on youtube someone made a comment they were the 1st loco's in Australia with 3000 hp is that right ?
Great video again
Yes, the 600 class were based on the 45's. The 600 class shared the running gear with the NSW 44, and 45 locos, that is 1800 hp Alco 12 cylinders.

Thanks for that, don't forget the unmistakable Alco smoke signal with those Alco engines.
@@louiskats5116 Gotta love it...

Sure do 👍
It takes a lot of fuel to make a lot of reliable horsepower
4520 ....sticky injector?
"Dribbling " injector, I'd say, Bill.
It looks like the throttle kept going between six and eight back-and-forth like it was goosing the throttle going uphill not knowing what rpm to stay at
locomotive 4520 look like it having engine problem
Looks like a steam engine coming.
I think it's turbo lag
A very sad ending for the 45s , ( reduced to Slave Status ) !
