Hello everyone! Due to copyright reasons I was unfortunately unable to add the dialogue version. I am truly sorry for this. Time Stamp 6:49 - 8:58 will have music over the original audio. I hope you all enjoyed the video, thanks for taking the time to watch!🤝😃
If you're up for a full movie about this you should watch is Joyeux Noel (Academy Award nominated in 2005). It's based on the unathorized WWI truce between enemies that happened on Christmas Eve 1914. It portrays the futility and pointlessness of war and the weariness of those that do the fighting.
I've lost count of how many times I've seen this and it makes me cry every time. Everyone who was part of this - just ordinary boys from ordinary families - are long dead now, even those who made it home.
In the ad video you see a British guy, Jim, put his head out first. The Germans spot him and a young German, Otto, shouts something like "he's not armed". They then leave their trenches to greet each other. Otto tells Jim his girl in the photograph is pretty, without speaking a word of English. Otto's hand gesture towards his face lets Jim know. This is probably the best advert ever made but that is because all of us have an ancestor that fought in that war or the second. The advert touches the soul.
What you said about it being the politicians' war is really apt. Before this war the British Army was mostly voluntary controlling a global empire, these soldiers signed up to serve because they were told it was their patriotic duty, many had never left the country before but were told that the war would be over for Christmas. They weren't professional soldiers, just young men far away from home. So moving.
Back to front pal, it was a British soldier who climbed out first followed by the German. The high commands disapprove of fraternising with the enemy so this only happened in 1914 🇬🇧
Every year, my primary school would watch this video and it's become one of my favourite adverts to this day. We were also taught how to sing silent night in German to honour it.
we learn about this to emphasize the humanity of soliders even on the other side and to remind us they were really all just young boys fighting for our freedom. 18-21 year olds with a lot of responsibility, i cant fathom it.
Hard to believe this is actually based on a true story, where Brits and Germans had a cease fire on Christmas day 1914. There is a statue of the two men shaking hands in Liverpool UK.
You should react to Oversimplified- ww2 part 1 - trust me its one of the best to get info about the war and I you will not forget any of it they also do Ww1, the Cold War ect
@3.56 mins No, dear, THIS WAS THE FIRST CRISTMAS!!! ( it is TO be supposed, they all hoped it would be the only 1 ) It is ON Christmas Day 1814 !!! The Advert Was To COMMEMORATE THIS EVENT, 100 YEARS ON ! So It Was Made IN 2014 !!! A PARTICULAR THOUGHT, IN, EVERY SINGLE POINT! And YES, They DID Play Football ON Christmas Day, 1914. !!!
@@GeekyC. If he understood what he'd watched, I'd have absolutely no issues. Misunderstanding a TV ad, specifically designed to be understood by people who don't know the story, is poor. If it was his first , second, maybe only third misunderstanding, I'd cut him some slack. Merry Christmas. 🎅 ☮

My family still has a gift that my great uncle was given by a German soldier that day.

There is actually a music video based on this truce by Sir Paul McCartney called The pipes of peace worth taking a look.

This advertisement is for Sainsbury's which is a supermarket and is based on a true story from WW1.
My great grandfather was at the front on Christmas Day.
Yes mate it really happened. There are videos on here about the 1914 Christmas truce
I loved this ad ❤
Also it was the British soldier who got up first.

Amen, Strac you’re right on it. ❤
That ad always makes me cry but fills me with hopeful spirit for mankind❤
Part of history we all learnt at school in the uk.
Not me, blue.
How amazing you love this ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You've got it round the wrong way it was a British soldier who went out first.
Actually, you have that backwards. It was the British that came out first, and the Germans pointed their guns. Then they came out also.

Some people believe football is life and death... They are wrong. It is MUCH more important than that.

You got it back arseward, it was the British soldier who got up first, you obviously can't determine German from English
We lost on penalties.
Why do you have to pull those silly faces" just be serious about the video's your reacting to,, ffs.
His silly faces would be much less annoying if he understood the story, rather than get it so muddled. It isn't a one off.
Merry Christmas. 🎅 ☮
Ooops - so I've told RUclips to stop recommending his channel. He's not worth the disappointment.
Happy and Peaceful New Year. 🎉 ☮
Some people are just show their expressions way more than most people. I don’t this myself in normal conversations. It’s not that deep.
