This was the most enchanting and lovely thing to watch. I legitimately got teary eyed and chuckled throughout the whole thing. Thanks for sharing your hobby, your creativity, and your sense of humor!
Well said! I felt like I was watching a TV drama from the 1970s. They played the same kind of music when foreshadowing a scene where someone gets some fantastic news!
My sister and i used to run through the woods to the train tracks to try to catch a view of the trains as they went by. On two occasions we made it in time to get a horn blast from the conductor. It's a memory i had forgotten. Thanks for being the conductor today. Thanks for the memory. Happy holidays to you.
Really nice video, mate. Never thought I would feel emotional watching a sick model train set, yet here we are. The music helped get me in the scene you built, great cinematography!
Thank you so much for the kind comment Rory... frankly I wasn't expecting it either. It just kind of came together! Glad the video and music evoked 'the feels'.
This video even though made with mini trains and simple music and a fun story just made me smile. I wish i had the space for such cool mini projects. I wish you a ton of fun and keep sharing ypur creations, the level of details is great and seriously, who doesnt love trains :D
Wow, thank you so much for the kind comment. Given the number of really fine train vids on RUclips, this is a really meaningful compliment! Stay tuned :-)
This is such a great thing to see. When I was a teenager, I did yardwork for various older folks in the community and a few had train layouts in their basementa or sheds that they would show me and I would always be so transfixed by watching them go and admiring the scenery. Thanks for bringing back such warm memories. Happy holidays indeed!
I came hoping to make it through just to add a view. I left with a warm smile, and a warmer belly (thank you Shoe Salesman). Paul, you weave a lovely tale and edit this charming video with excellent choices and timing. Well done. Merry Christmas '23
Thanks Joe. I rediscovered the hobby a few years back after unpacking a box full of old trains from my boyhood. It's been a great way to pass the time, especially during the winter months.
Very nice! I like the little stories included in this, I dont see other model videos doing anything like that. It adds a fun extra dimension. Also liking the details in this setup - the powerlines down the edge of the terrain are a nice visual way of making that edge less empty. I'm in my early 30s but I've always wanted to get into model making like this, a hobby I'll be getting into in the future I am sure - until then I can watch videos like this and see how others work :D Thankyou for sharing this little bit of christmas spirit Paul! :)
Thank you so much for the kind comments Alex. I hope you do have an opportunity to explore this rather cool hobby. There are a lot of great RUclipsrs out there sharing their work... some with tips and tricks, others with just really inspiring vids. Looking forward to seeing your progress when the time is right for you to dive in.
My father and I collected HO when I was a kid. I’m 38 now. Heading over there tomorrow to see him and my mom and going to bring out all my HO stuff. Thanks for reminding me about the beauty of trains. Happy Holidays
Absolutely incredible. This reminds me of the times I spent making my own model trainsets and playing the OG Trainz Driver. Also, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you.
Happy holidays!! Wonderful content, can’t wait to see more. Your dedication is admirable and it’s so wholesome you want to share your passion with the world. We will gladly watch and support you
Great video Paul. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The work on the train set and models as well as the camerawork and video editing are spot on! Merry Christmas!
Thank you... nice to hear from someone in the UK! (You might have recognized some of the buildings on the layout... many are British profile 'oo' kits.)
Really nice work!!! Loved the framing of the shots and the beautiful depth of field. The commentary is hilarious, the engineer taking the switch too fast was a rare real LOL for me. Reddit is a wonderful thing, All reindeer should have a flask!! If I had one suggestion would be to spray some grey or blue or something over the strand board so we dont see the black lettering in some of the shots. Youre doing so much detail work thats an easy one to get out of these amazing forever videos!! or paint a little green hillside and some clouds, you have the creativity obviously
This is so awesome sauce, I’ve never seen anything so cool and spectacular, I love trains so much they light up my life thank you for putting this video out so I can see just how awesome your set up is
I loved it. My Great Opa was also an avid model train hobbyist. One of his works was actually donated to a local Children's museum and put on display for some years. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to ask my Opa why he loved model trains before he passed. I would like to pass the question to you. Is it the engineering of trains that fascinates you? Or is it more about building your own world, like a simulation game. Thanks for the video and good memories.
Thanks for your comment, and for the question. It's actually a bit of both (the engineering and the creation of a peaceful little corner of the universe). As well, there's something rather pleasing about taking an old, broken model train and making it run again. I often think how even the saddest little trains were once gifts under the tree. And the recipients were thrilled to get them. Giving them a new lease on life, and a fresh opportunity to make people smile (especially at Christmas), makes me feel good inside. Happiest of holidays to you!
I’m delighted that the phrase “shoddy trainsmanship” is now a part of my lexicon.
“If that tallywhacker keeps Tokyo Drifting this sum bitch I shall request my tenpence refunded!”
And you'll find the phrase can be used in all kinds of situations! Cheers...
Love the 'Tokyo Drifting' line!!!!!!!! Sounds like you might have been one of my passengers today...

Thanks for being the conductor today. Thanks for the memory. Happy holidays to you.
Thank you so much for sharing such a pleasant memory - glad my little video served to trigger it. Happy holidays!
Really nice video, mate. Never thought I would feel emotional watching a sick model train set, yet here we are. The music helped get me in the scene you built, great cinematography!
