My wife asked me why I enjoyed watching guys tow stuff out of the sand again and again... I think it's because Matt and Ed are the kind of people I'd like to know.. no big ego but totally capable of doing whatever is necessary. If you haven't seen Matt's video about the improvements(?) he's made to jeep 1, check it out, he has a lot of skills that aren't normally seen in the videos.

Glad to see you got out of it in time and started doing something you enjoy. I'm stuck I think it's a tough job and who really wants to work that hard their whole life. But now I can see why you have that get er done attitude only a man who has worked hard in their life can understand that.

I'm genuinely surprised that you've been towing since 2010. I would've guess that you grew up around the industry. I started towing when i was 17 and stopped towing full time when i was 32. Up until about 3 or 4 years ago i would help my old boss if he needed extra help. The job i have now pays more and has really good benefits otherwise I'd most likely still be towing. The thing i miss the most is the different challenges and solutions that come with towing/recovery. I was always learning something new with emergency road service but especially with police tows/recoveries. Well thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.

That reminds me of the time I used gasoline to clean some parts. Then I dumped the gasoline into a 55 gallon steel burn barrel out back. A short time later, unbeknownst to me, my wife took several years worth of old business records and threw them into the barrel. Then she lit a match to burn them. I was in the garage changing the oil on a truck when I heard a loud WHOOOMPH!!!. I looked out the window and saw a mushroom cloud of papers maybe fifty feet high. My wife called me loudly by my last name, I won't repeat what she said, but her bangs and eyebrows were pretty well singed.

    • @nathanrieck2112
      @nathanrieck2112 4 года назад +21

Ryan McCormick lol we have this neighbor at the end of the street that would never maintain their yard so one weekend after mowing our yard and trimming everything my dad told me to get the weed eater and lawn mower and push it down to that house. He was going to round up some green bins from our other neighbors and meet me down there. Well I got to work and sure enough he showed up like 5 minutes later pulling two bins with him. We were probably working a good 20 minutes before the people came out and demanded to know what we were doing to their yard. My dad, well he’s very blunt sometimes. He explained that we were cleaning up their yard to put it nicely. They basically said we ain’t paying you! My dad said okay and started cutting again and that was that. Very awkward with them just standing there watching us. We finished up after an hour or so and filled up probably 5 other neighbors bins and walked back home. First and last time we ever did that. Found out years later why my dad did that. A neighbor had come by with a paper to get signed by everyone to make them clean their yard. My dad isn’t a person to waste time and is the kind of person if you want something done, so it yourself. So that’s what he did

Matt, this answers a few questions I had,
    Thanks 😊
Now I know that both you & I started out as kids,
Long before we got the grey in the beard!
Secondly- I now know that even someone as meticulous & skilled you are does occasionally have a fail or a less than perfect situational outcome.
3rd, I now know that Lizzie isn’t your daughter, perhaps related?
    Either way , she’s a cutie ☺️ & brings a lot to your channel,
I see her with the Spurs on occasionally & she looks like a barrel racer, was curious if that was the case or if she did other horseback riding disciplines?
My daughter is younger but besides the accent, Lizzie reminds me of her just a few years older.
Love the channel and the positivity-
Especially in the face of adversity.
God Bless you all in your recoveries!

I grew up helping my dad move oilfield equipment through the muddy NW Pennsylvania woods. Lots of winching. Lots of getting stuck. I learned a lot about physics on-the-job. Yes, physics: friction, mechanical advantage, momentum, etc. I eventually became a geophysicist.
I enjoy watching your videos because it reminds me of those times: assessing the situation, and then using the tools available to get the job done. Sometimes on the third try.
That said, I wouldn't be a subscriber if y'all weren't decent, humble, funny, and extremely likable people. I wish you, your crew, and your family every bit of luck and success. You deserve it.

Matt, I owned my own roofing company in Pittsburgh for almost 35 years. I did the roofing on the Grant building in downtown Pittsburgh. The believe me smartest thing you ever did was to get the hell out of that business LOL. I'm 63 now and still a four-wheel drive enthusiast and an X Championship autocross racer, I was just out in Mesquite Nevada on September 7th through 12th of 2020, I sure wish I could have met you but I'm hoping to plan a trip back there real soon! I'd love to go out on a couple recoveries with you that would make my life believe me. God bless you and your wonderful family and best wishes for a very safe and profitable 2021 coming up hopefully I'll get to meet you someday

I love the transition from roofing to towing, there’s a skyline roofing around my part too. It’s always funny to see that other people get silly stucks too, I took my girlfriend (now wife) down a mud road in my pickup back in the day, drove into what I thought was a puddle, and no sooner sank to the rockers, I’d just washed it that morning, I swore off mudding after that.

Matt, I stumbled across this older video after having seen most of your more current ones. The title is very misleading. At the beginning of the video you talked about your family. Not a fail at all. God bless you and I hope you will make many more videos.

Nice to know about you and the fam. We have three sons and went on many adventures on dirt bikes, cars, jet skis. Great times. Finally got your signature kinetic rope, everybody must have bought them all at the same time as me, since it took several months to arrive. I hope made some money on that one. You deserve it. Later

Great video! How did you get started in the recovery business? Just curious. I've been a roofer for 24 years now, owed my own business the last few years also like you did and its time for a change! I've been an avid offroader since I could drive and done a lot of recoveries for friends and their friend's haha.
Throughout the video I was chuckling because our lives have had pretty similar paths. My wife and kids also love camping, hunting, fishing and riding atv's whenever we have the chance. We have also done a bit of auto racing although they don't have demolition derbys in our neck of the woods anymore.
Just curious how you got going in this business and if you find it fulfilling? I'm gettin to damn old to be a roofer haha!

Its neat to see you guys all working. N playing nicely together. my daughter and I work together like my mom n dad and my grandfather worked with me. I changed careers too. I used to be a Stained glass artisan for about 8 years, then switched to plumbing. More demand for that plus better pay. 😂
