My M3 was a gift to my dad when the German steel company observed he used IIIf. Thank you for telling me that shutter speed is continuous. I have original Leica film cassettes that interlock with closure key so that the outside case turns to open a no contact slot for the film. This instead of the felt used to keep light from entering. Early 35 mm film was scratched easily and this system kept the film from making contact

The nikon s2 and kiev rangefinders actually draw lineage from the contax rangefinders which had a combined viewfinder/rangefinder a couple decades before the Leica M3. The contax was actually widely choosen as the professional choice over leica screwmount cameras.
