A few years ago I went to one of those Stand-alone urgent care facilities for my basic med examine. Told doc I needed a physical. I had him read a quick print out I handed him from AOPA, and he did a physical. $25 and I was out the door!

As a CFI I can instruct without a medical as long as I am not PIC or a required crew member, as in a Flight Review. A CFI can instruct with a 3 rd class medical as I am being paid for the transference of knowledge.

The FAA is unreasonable, and they only communicate though letters that take 6-12 months for them to read. No way to call them even if a doctor wants to call them to discuss what testing needs to be done. This is why most just forget about what happened 5-10 years ago and only remember what they can remember put that on the forms. If your young under 50 never had any health issues nothing to worry about.

I am over 40 and have Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I was diagnosed in 2018 and it has been fully treated with CPAP therapy. I also have a High BMI. From my understanding at best I am going to have to go through the special issuance process even though I'm fully treated and have no ill effects in that treatment. What will I need to bring to the AME I choose to make the whole process go as smoothly as possible and not cause unnecessary delays?

WOW! I hear reasons that the FAA can't do anything quickly is that they are Under staffed and over worked, there's simply just too much for them to do and YET, the FAA has in the last couple of years decided that they ALSO need to be placed in charge of Model Airplanes, Helicopters and Drones. And, that They(the FAA) need to be in charge of Where, When and How those unpiloted systems can operate. Yet with all of this authority 'I' can still hop into my 'unregistered,254 pound Ultralight and fly off into the unknown. ? ? ? ? ?

If you know you'll need a Special Clearance and you have not previously had a 3rd Class license, I've heard that this basically grounds you until you hear back, which I'm told is taking about 9 months right now. What wasn't made clear is whether you can take flight lessons or not before you hear back. But someone said it just means you can't solo until you hear back. I've also heard it only applies to PPL but not LSA flying. What's the best way to get clarification?

Near 7:20 the doctor states that for a first clas medical, when you get above 40 yrs old, your "...EKG is required once a year and they're only good for six months." Haven't had coffe yet this morning, but if something is required once a year, but it's only good for six months... doesn't that mean you need it TWICE a year?

FAA is in direct violation of the federal law. The BASIC MED law passed by CONGRESS is based on a simple Premus. It states the purpose is to make is so that if you can drive, then you can fly. But the FAA imposes requirements that in order to even obtain a basic med, the applicant MUST first pass a Class 3. which creates an obstacle that prevents many who can drive from flying. The FAA knows this. they are sick/// Federal law does NOT allow discrimination upon age. However, the Rule you had to have a Class three prior to 2006 , disenfranchises older pilots who have not kept a medical current. It is illegal to disenfranchise a whole group of people based upon their age. Predating to 2006 is basing the applications upon AGE. . This FAA ,mandatory preexisting class three medical requirement, to obtain a basic med is not in accordance with the law or the intent of the law. It is really a basic road med filter and road block if EVIL intent. A block PUT IN BY THE FAA SPECIFICALLY to prevent anyone who does not first met a class 3, ( much harder requirements, than the Basic med) from EVER getting a basic med. and that is going to get the FAA in a major class action law suit. It is the FAA who is responsible for the lack of pilots and mechanics. The USA needs 60,000 pilots and hundreds of thousands of mechanics. the FAA is WHY that need is growing. The requirement for mechanics are just as sick in a different way. Just plain sick. Discriminating and filtering requirements that are illegal and unconstitutional. I cant believe no one has files a class action yet. But Im sure one is coming . They are chasing away all potential young pilots with these abusive rules. Which are also Unconstitutional AGE restricting rules. They have been growing regulations and putting in these little discriminating hooks to keep people out and it is going to end up with the FAA being broken down. I have met hundreds of young people who cant navigate the complicated medical rules with simple ill relevant medical obstacles created by the FAA. THIS IS NOT THE MILITARY. This is civil aviation and the stories I heard from young people are absurd. A young man who is 20 that was honest on is application that he took ADHD medication when he was ten. The doctors found out he didn't need it and he never took again past age of 11. . The FAA wants this young man to spend no less than 5 grand and months on tests for a special issuance. Yet this same young man can go in the Air force and they wont care because the air force does not look at records as far back as TEN years prior. NOR do they want records from your adolescent years of 10 years old. They certainly dont make anyone prove they no longer have a illness if they are not even taking a medication for it or treated for it or if it was a misdiagnosis. They dont make people prove the medical conditions when they were 10 yrs old. . THE FAA is out of control. Totally out of control I have hundreds of stories of the FAA looking at records for medical conditions long over more than ten years old and resolved. It is insane. You are ALL sick. Unless someone is under treatment for a condition or was within the last 5 yrs, or if it was a condition a medical doctor says is resolved more than 5 yrs ago with no recurrence THEN all the FAA needs is a letter saying it is resolved or it no longer exists for more than 5 yrs. This sick mentality to prove everything just because you are being honest is CRAZY. People would Not even tell half this stuff if the application was not full of legal criminal threats stating you have to tell everything in your WHOLE LIFE.... THAT IS INSANE. making people prove they recovered from something they clearly recovered from . but only because they were HONEST out of FEAR of prosecution..... The question on the application that states have YOU EVER HAD IN YOUR LIFE, any illness or treatment is REDICULOUS. absolutely INSANE. You are ALL sicko minded people. Have you ever had in YOUR LIFE??? are you people NUTS? you are. Even the Military does not ask a question like that.

First, if you are deciding on a professional career I suggest you get the most extensive test from a doctor that does it for a major airline to find out if your physically eledgible before spending more money in training that you can't use. Yes all training is useful thats not the point.
Next, No, we don't need to wait. We need to have higher standards for government workers. This slow roll stuff has to be improved. It is very frustrating to have agencies require high standards and knowledge to fall prey to substandard competence by the people employed for their job.
Not sure why this doctor had the need to rush through all his descriptions in a condescending way toward you either.
"If you had cataract surgery it's relatively easy to return to flying depending on the kind of lenses" I don't suppose it would be that "easy" if you had the wrong ones implanted.
I got to say I didn't learn anything from him. His arrogance oozed so much from him that he didn't even know he was doing it. Like most doctors he doesn't realize there are millions of people who haven't had any medical all or the majority of their lives.
Addressing issues with any of these would have been beneficial.
