Don't forget you can simply use water/jet as currency. Even if your vendor doesn't have a lot, you can buy as much as your want and trade the difference with your water/jet and purchase 2000-3000 caps worth of items even if the vendor only has 800 caps and you have 0. It makes it easy. Water/jet is your currency.

I am sure others have done this, but I will just mention the water purifiers are the easiest, quickest and most time-saving method there is. In Sanctuary I have 15 or so of the large water purifiers making me, on average, 480-510 waters every game day. I have this at a couple of locations where I can grab 1200-1500 waters quickly (I have all the perks that let you fast travel while overweight as well as using action points to walk normally when weighed down (those are two of the most important abilities to get I think).
Secondly, I where clothes with high charisma when dealing to get better prices and basically, I pay for things not with caps, but with water. Purified water is my "currency". Since I can go to a vendor with 0 caps and 1200 waters, at 16 caps per water, it's the same as having 1200x16 caps. You can rack up a massive bill and just "sell" the waters and walk away even. So for me, I mass store the waters, currently I have around 25,000 purified waters stored away for "spending" and on the way out of my settlement, I grab the 480+ waters and load up on ammo and whatever else I may need or just sell them to the vendors for their 800-1200 caps they have at the moment.
It's a beautiful system and because of that I spend no time hunting down caps (although I loot everything too) or supplies. I have constant building supplies from my massive water stores and you can do that at multiple locations and quickly fast travel and in a few minutes have 2000+ purified waters to save at 13-16 caps each! The waters never stop and so the caps/supplies never stop. I found that earlier in the game and it save me lots of time. :-)
P.S. watching the whole video I forgot to mention I have done the jet thing too and at 40 per jet, it helps a lot as he mentioned. I was doing both for a while but found because of the perks of weight not hindering me from moving or fast traveling, I can just grab 1200-1500 as I mentioned without wasting time of making things (and I know, it takes on a few seconds, but why use my resources when I can get water for free).

Quick tip for my fellow water farmers, I’ve noticed that water doesn’t collect how it should within the workshop. What I do is set up a safe right next to the workshop, and every time I visit one of my farms, I pull it all out and throw it in the safe. I find I build it up two to three times as fast. I’ve also noticed if I do that and go back a few minutes later, without leaving the settlement, there is another giant surplus in the workshop again. I think it’s a bug that occurs when one settlement is making just stupid amounts of something.

If you don't mind your murder score going up, the Brotherhood of Steel is a great source of caps.
After the Reunions quest, they are all over the place. If you haven't done anything to make the BOS hostile, they aren't hostile to you. So just let them walk by, then turn and ambush. Lots of weapons and armor to scrap or sell, plus power armor bits are worth plenty.

I reckon it would be cool to add a sort of barge/boat trader that would use ingame waterways to travel and would stop at little docks you could build on the water like a purifier only at waterfront settlements! Maybe you could also pay a few caps to ride on their barges!

There's some things I have done that help me.
First: I have maxed out the Strong Back perk. Carry weight is no longer a problem and I can move normally as long as I have AP. I can also fast travel even when over encumbered. So I will take out all hostiles in any location and loot EVERYTHING off their bodies and anything you can find in that location (don't sort and decide, just take). I get so much that I can't even sell everything in a single day at multiple vendor locations. At each vendor, start selling your highest priced items till you get close to their cap limit then sell smaller priced items to get every last cap (I will often sell ammo priced at one cap to even out or even purchase ammo I use so I don't waste any caps)
Second: I invest in Local Leader and Cap Collector to make my own market place. The initial investment may be a little high but you will be getting this money back quickly. (you don't have to build the top tier shops but it makes things go faster) I have also maxed out Cap Collector to invest the $500 to a vendor to increase their buying ability.
Third: I make a Things-To-Sell storage chest at my marketplace settlement. Many times I will want to take a break from selling all my valuable loot and go on multiple missions in a row, so I have made a special storage chest that I will quick travel to between missions to unload all my excess items. Then when you have some time, your loot is ready to sell at a moments notice.
Forth: I have maxed out my Charisma. I usually equip as many Charisma boosting items as I can to get a solid, no time limit boost in selling price. I don't normally use chems or alcohol to boost my Charisma further only because I don't like dealing with addiction and time limit and I'd rather sell those stat boosting items then use them (except maybe grape mentats, I just love the taste of grape). Now this being said, I don't find charisma too necessary. Its more of a way to speed up the process. You are going to be so loaded with loot to sell that you will still be clearing out vendors of all their caps.
These are the main things I do go get caps for resources. I may do a few other things like Scrapping VS Selling and Legendary Farming but I wont go into that because it slows down the process.

If you never use a flamer my suggest is grabbing the Chemist perk and upgrading you jet into jet fuel. It costs only 1 jet and 5 flamer fuel. Kind of pointless chem upgrade 10 sec slow to 15 sec slow but it does sell for more caps. Plus more leveling. Also if you are low on flamer fuel it is really cheap to buy, usually 1 cap per 1 fuel or just raid the Forged place. So ya twice the exp and probably 20% more caps.

I haven't been anywhere south in the map yet or to Diamond city with only a death and three completed quests, I'm level 22 loads of legendary weapons including a wounding sub machine gun, plasma infused 10mm, an instigating laser musket, a penetrating laser rifle, and a freezing and penetrating plasma rifle. I just farm every location in the northern part of the map and I easily have over a three thousand wood and steel and over five hundred of everything else. It may sound boring running back in fourth across the top of the map but on this play through I've still yet to uncover every unmarked location and I'm already rich in late game gear, materials and caps. The point is take your time and have fun you'll be rewarded handsomely. Another reason I've been holding off and staying off certain roads is because I'm going to wait until I have emporiums and max settlers so I can get my hands on all legendary vendors, purely for aesthetic, completion, and bragging rights lol.

You can get two of the most powerful guns in the game - Spray n' Pray and Guardian's Overseer - as early as level 2 without ever having to fight anything. See www.cardsharkgames.info/f4/best_weapons_early.htm
Also, you should be able to get over 4000 wood just by scrapping everything (including all the trees) in Sanctuary and Red Rocket. And you can get a Fat Man and a mini-nuke from Robotics Disposal and another mini-nuke from USAF Satellite Station Olivia.

    • @cvi4057
      @cvi4057 8 лет назад +1

nrford100 I prefer legendary drops because all though random I've already got guns that vastly outclass what vendors can sale or what you get through quest rewards for the most. There's really only three maybe four guns I'd honestly consider picking up for field use at this point and not just something to collect or pawn off to my settlers.

  • @JarlGrimmToys
    @JarlGrimmToys 7 лет назад +1

I get over 500 purified water from purifiers in Sanctuary. That’s with a fully enclosed “water treatment facility” that looks lore and has walk ways in between all the purifiers.
I’ve combined that with the perk that lets you fast travel while being over weight. So I grab the 500 water and fast travel to traders and pick up shipments and ammo.
Also while I’m building I regularly transfer my water from the workbench to a crate next to it. I’ve currently have 4000 of them, that’s more than enough to buy every shipment in the game within about 30 minutes.

With Scrapper (one or two ranks), any respawning raider camp is useful for getting copper--you break down all of their pipe weapons, and if they have mods on them, boom, copper for days. Concord, the Corvega plant, the quarries, the satellite stations. Try Easy City Downs for a good double-dip, but I'm not sure what if anything respawns there.

Now I am just doing settlement building so I use the crafting glitch. Get some mole rat meat and glitch make Mirelurk queen steaks. They sell for around 70-80 caps in Diamond City. I'm sure someone has already mentioned this but for easy copper and leather farming, build raider cages at a few settlements. Then never let the raider out, every in game week or so, you'll be attacked by raiders. Pick up all their armor and guns and whatever other useless scrap they have on em. With the perk scrapper 2, just drop all of them and scrap them in workshop mode. Lots of free copper and leather plus increasing your settlement size for future building. You'll also get some steel out of this process as well which as you stated no one should ever run out of with how many vendors sell it.
For selling, I usually do PsychoJet, I'll take the vendors entire shipment stock and then coffee cups, blast radius game and everything else with nuclear material, and then anything with fiber optics. I tend to run around all the major settlement vendors, Diamond City, Goodneighbor and Bunker Hill and finish up with Drumlin before depositing everything into a workbench.
Plus psychojet makes some of the encounters while playing on survival tolerable. So I make sure I always have a handful of them on my person at all times...just in case.

It's not 100% reliable but a kinda fun way to get extra caps. If you capture a deathclaw obviously your settlement gets attacked by deathclaws fairly regularly. (even though I had an Alpha captured in Starlight I only got attacked by standard deathclaws) They become easy pickings level 50+ and I was getting attacked by 3 everytime I travelled back.
anyway, with all the caps perks 1 deathclaw meat is 71 caps and each deathclaw drops 2-3.
Obviously the weight gives it the same problems as water but it's about 10 times as valuable and you can't reuse deathclaw meat for any of the cages.

At level 82, I still use the purified water farming method. I have the Level 6 Strength perks maxed out so I can move and fast travel while overloaded.
I have big ugly farms in Sanctuary and Nordhagen Beach, and bounce between the two. Spectacle Island looks like it could be a good farming spot, too, but that is a lot of moving around. I usually have about 700+ waters, and those go for 12k-ish, I believe.
Once I have loaded up on water, I'll go to Abernathy, Greygarden and Diamond City to buy out all the wood shipments. Prior to the DLC patch, I was struggling with keeping materials, specifically wood, and was using my waters to buy out a weapons vendor of their heavier weapons that had wood, such as shotguns and hunting rifles. Now that there is a lot of concrete available, these trips have become less and less necessary. I get steel from scrapping guns that I pick up from adventuring.
I also have the perk where you can invest in shops to give them more buying caps. So I can trade the water in for the supplies I need, and for the caps that the vendor has on them.

Since there's no running water or sewer lines, the only believable toilet/bathroom is a metal pot. Now if only you could assign a settler to empty it out for you.

    • @nrford100

Yeah, but my point was that building a toilet in the real world doesn't hook it up to non-existing water and sewer lines, thus using a pot is more realistic.

I have also found that it pays to have extra water purifiers at your settlements that have good fertilizer production. The reason behind that is twofold first water cell secondly because of the weight involved having the water or the fertilizer is produced means you can trade your water for the fertilizer and then use the plastic you carry with you. Institute weapons are excellent for scrapping for this so you can literally Farm synths for plastic use the fertilizer and plastic for jet manufacturing and then sell the jet 2 the vendor at that settlement.

Dave: Excellent, thanks. I try never to pay for items needed. I use whatever guns and stuff picked up from Raiders and Muties, then if more caps are needed use ammo that I am not using, I also use water. As well I use Stimpacks since we literally find hundreds of them I could never possibly use all the stimpacks I find. I try to make the vendors caps down to zero each time I trade. I wear charisma suit for trading. I take Grape Mentats for trading large purchases. Charisma +5. Hubflowers also make Grape Mentats. Great helps. Thanks :)

level 28 character, 3 settlements with 999 water production. drop water, have follower pick it up to get around carry limit. for sheer ease of use this can't be beat. I had 999 water in one settlement by level six. by the time shit breaks or you start getting raided badly you have the caps and resources to fix them, plus the water increases relatively quickly.

if starting a fresh playthrough then head to DC, get Marowski's chem deal started, rob and murder the couriers, head to vault 81, pay or blag your way in with high charisma, head to the generator and find bobby de luca, avoiding his sister. he'll pay you 75 for any jet you have in multiple single transactions(most merchants pay about 36-40 max i've seen).
so if you make your own aswell you can get a fortune. just keep clicking to talk, he has unlimited resources as long as you dont let him leave. if he walks away i think he has new dialogue, but if you just keep talking to him in the generator room he wont stop buying till you leave him alone. i got about 7000 caps off him before i ran out of jet. never knew junkies where that financially succesful, probably the richest npc i've encountered.

+seanie russell In survival mode, it gives you loads of safe places where you can sleep. And since you can't fast travel, you can sell the jet you make to own settlement vendors for caps without having to do long distance trips to Diamond City and Goodneighbor.

It may not sound like much, but if you do a round once an "in game" week of settlements, you will pick up 1200 caps or so per settlement.
