  • Hello, in this video I will be trying out a set of 30 Albrecht Durer watercolour pencil by Faber Castell. This set also includes a small water brush and is presented in a fake leather pencil roll.
I purchased this set to use on an upcoming project and I thought I would share it with you all. For this project I was wanting to primarily use water-soluble pencils but I needed them to have some resistance to fading over time. I sorted through all my water-soluble pencils which include a mix of Derwent watercolour, inktens and graphitint pencils. I found that almost half of my collection were fugitives and I was left with no Reds and no vibrant colours. I saw this set and thought they might be a good investment as I have been wanting to try Albrecht Durer pencils for a long time. I already have some other pencils form faber Castell and have been impressed by their quality. All the colours in this set are high to excellent lightfast with the exception of one orange, which I’m ok with.
In this video I will show you the set, unbox, swatch and create a demo illusion to give them a good try.
For the illustration I also used, cold press cotton watercolour paper, acrylic ink and white gouache.
Thank you all so much for watching and for all the lovely messages and feedback. I’m loving you tube so far and have some exciting plans for the near future. Please like and subscribe it’s a huge help and very much appreciated!

May I know what sharpener you use for this pencils? I just bought the 120 set, now trying to find a suitable pencil sharpener.

Hi its a brass double hole sharpener by M + R, I like that the larger hole works for these pencils😀

It is a wonderful piece of work. But why did you insist on using watercolor pencils instead of watercolor, when you could have achieved the same result with watercolor? I would like to know the advantage of using watercolor pencils over watercolor since I rarely use watercolor pencils on a regular basis.

Thank you! honestly its mostly personal preference, I like working with both but I like pencils because I can use them both wet and dry. Some of the later layers I did not activate with water or only used a damp brush. If I decide to use the pencil dry over a wash, I already know that the colours match as it’s the same pigment. Hope that helps!
