I fell like a useful object. I am afraid I'm gonna have to dump her as she IS not accountable. I don't know what her deal is. Npd? Borderline? Hisyrionic? She refusés to sée a therapist

33 year retired school teacher here…
That alone should tell you a whole lot.
I had a class about 30 students and one particular young girl about 17 years old was very histrionic, every time a male student ask her for a pencil or paper she would say hey do you like my breast, which she was endowed.
Well, one day we were going to break and outside my classroom door. All the students were already up the hall. She grabbed my gonads and wouldn’t let go when I slapped her hand away. She grabbed them again, just laughing.
So I slapped her away again and went on about my day. Years later on Facebook she denied everything, but she was one strange student.

As painful as it is to write this, I had to cut off a friend who I knew my entire life because of her disorder. She repeatedly did this to men and even though she tried to conceal what she was doing sometimes (escorting), it was pretty obvious after a while what she was up to. Now she’s on her second divorce claiming that this man has abused her (just like the first husband apparently). It’s the same story and she keeps recycling it, that these men are narcissists, abusers, etc. blasting people on social media whenever she felt like it. I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to find a good excuse and then I cut her off. She of course went crazy saying how dare I do this while she’s out of work and going through a divorce and physically injured, etc. Quite frankly, there would’ve never been any “good time“ to end the so called friendship so I had to do what I had to do. I feel such a relief that she’s gone from my life, but I am sure she’s out there bad-mouthing me as well. You have to be very careful around these women! They may appear very seductive at first and enticing and shower you with compliments, etc. Let me guarantee you, they have an agenda! Stay far away from them as you possibly can. Just run away.

Wow, this is such a rare subject. My husband's mother is histrionic and uses sexually exploitive inappropriate remarks and jokes in settings that makes people leave the room. She then analyzes the others as being unauthentic and shallow. It becomes confusing because she's the one who is inappropriate and shallow. She's also highly intelligent so she will bring up an inappropriate debate and absolutes that are overwhelming for the group. It's so extreme that it makes others feel badly because there is no way to relate to this person that is so passionate about their agenda and use of their soapbox that it creates confusion. If ever to come back the the conversation she started she then deflects the issue as your problem and has no idea what you are talking about. She goes to extremes of norms and has no desire to be "mediocre," as the rest of the individuals in society. They are all stupid and she has no time for them.
She has no empathy for others but rather deflects again as they have no empathy for her or what she stands for. Of course her position will change based on the reaction she gets, which of course the ones she loves are debates where she derive her platform in a higher limelight for a particular time and audience.

I had a toxic best friendship for 7 years (from college about 21 to 28) who I swear was like this. She was absolutely impossible to deal with, completely unreasonable, & the weirdest part is that she always thought she was doing something right by being crazy dramatic & erratic. I chalked it up to her being an actor from San Francisco & I didn't think she was attractive, so I thought maybe she was overcompensating, but normal people don't act like that! Her mother was nuts + I think she was in a very chaotic childhood home. It was very hard to get out of that relationship & I couldn't help but think (& say- oops) good riddance!!!!!

I’ve noticed this with certain types of “gay” males and especially women. I often wonder how much a history of substance abuse plays into this mentality.
One female ( heterosexual ) admits to having been diagnosed borderline schizophrenic and was once in recovery for alcoholism. As time went on I’ve noticed that she began drinking yet would run out to clubs and bars claiming that she wasn’t drinking.
When I had carefully posed the question of whether she thought that it was a wise decision to begin drinking, she defended her drinking as if she was entitled…which she was.
The blatant disregard to my concern for her as a friend and someone who loved her felt like a swift kick to my gonads. From then on, the relationship changed as did her physical health.
During the course of the relationship, I’ve noticed all of the signs you mention relating to histrionic personality disorder.
I had noticed that I would feel the need to either have a cigarette and or take very ling periods of rest to scrub my brain and give my body a rest after merely being on the phone hearing her ramble on for nearly 20 minutes jumping from one topic to another and never allowing me to have a word to say/respond.
When taking back the reigns of the conversation just to address and respond to something she said, she began to get very testy and then would impose the same thing caring nothing about what the point was, but how my asking her to stop talking and interrupting me before I have made my point. (Which didn’t take long) She was insulted that I wanted her to shut her mouth and hear what I had to say regardless to helpful and genuine the words were that would serve to benefit her.
This type of behavior seems very common amongst people whom I would learn are substance abusers or had used illicit drugs at one time, point or another. This goes for people who abuse marijuana, alcohol, illicit drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamines, and Rx drugs such as oxycontin and etc…
So, with the underlying issues of a personality disorder, the complications of substance abuse which compounds the base issue(s) is quite a horrible thing.
I’ve found that with these type individuals, they behave like loose canons and nearly any and everything can ignite the madness.
Great video! You’ve given me a whole lot to think about regarding people I’ve dealt with in the past and people I encounter these days.
With this, there’s another group of individuals I will actually sit down and write up some observations relating to histrionic and try to figure out whether or not it’s histrionic personality disorder or simply just some close semblances to the disorder.
    Peace and Blessings!
Thank you and others if you all have read this in its entirety. 👍🏽

I think it's necessary to examine the sociological implications of this disorder as it relates to women (even starting with the name) and there is a question raised about if there are proponents symptomology amongs men but they tend to be labeled with NPD or other mental health disorders. first of all, unlike the disorder, the word 'histrionic' doesn't root in the word hysteria.
However, I fully agree there is a trend to label everything as NPD or narcissist especially in men. I personally feel there are tons of histrionic males. Think of a bodybuilder who watches himself in the mirror and goes to shows and spends all his income on steroids and food without having any income of it, they're somehow automatically considered (somatic) narcissists but when a person follows stereotypes, like a man who tries to compensate with a big car, big muscles, being extra into their sports team and such (while being realy into emotional break through moments and drama), that's really histrionic in my opinion. In my opinion HPD is somewhere between NPD and BPD, grandiosity light with a lot of vulnerable narcissism traits.

From personal experience, they can and sometimes do. A woman I was a friend to would more often than NOT find someone just like herself, but those relationships would end as quickly and frequently as bees hop from stamen to stamen and then off to another garden. I had another analogy but decided to keep this one clean…for I have such the potty mouth! 🤣
I’ve been told by some mental health that mental derangement is often “coupled” with some other type of mental illness.
With histrionic personality disorder, I think that it’s a safe bet that at least half of these peeps battle with narcissistic personality disorder and or borderline schizophrenic.

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  4 года назад +4

This is a good question. It can. ADHD and BPD including many other disorders such as anxiety and depression can cause these symptoms. That's why mental health providers have to do multiple evaluations and assessments as well as get to know the client/patient so that that the diagnosis can be accurate or close to accurate. Individuals with histrionic traits do have intense emotions and sometimes that includes fear of abandonment.

I’ve watched a number of videos, and there are differences in the disorders, as reflected in the DSM criteria for the disorders. In short, histrionic is more about exaggerated public displays of behavior and/or ways of dressing, with the person affected not necessarily responding with a logical or deep answer when you challenge them on something, whereas narcissism seems like it can be more subtly displayed, and might not always look or feel out of place in a given context. But both types fall under the same overarching disorder category.

This is tough. This is work that needs to be done within you because the fear that you feel is keeping you "bound" and stuck. Despite what they will/could do, you have to leave for your own sanity. Whether you leave now or later they will still be the same person. Essentially, nothing will change and you're kind of prolonging your suffering. This is tough indeed. I suggest psychotherapy to work on why leaving is so hard, setting boundaries, and coping with the potential aftereffects of leaving.

She sends him countless emails because he blocked her phone number , she has hit a woman he has been dating and she's going to court . She has tried to get in his place by trying to destroy the door . She once sent him pictures of her naked every day until he would agree to have sex with her. She says that she is his girlfriend to every girl he dates and she terrorizes them. She has bitten him to blood one time he was talking to his friends girlfriend. She goes to eat where his daughter works because she knows he goes there and she sits there and watches him . She says eveygirl is ugly except her. She gets very angry when someone talks to her. It's insane what she does and he doesn't want to call the cops because she has 2 children. It's just bad he feels forced to have sex with her otherwise she harrasses him. 😊

Like i have been friends with her before dating her and she has always been sending mixing signals but also is like that with everyone. What should i do?? Recently she's been distant and i decided we should have a break for like a week so she can have some space and alone time, did i do the right thing? I dont care whatever mental issues she can have as long as her feelings for me are real. I'll support her through everything.
