Many thanks again, Waldschratt, for capturing Tuba Skinny with such a good acoustic. 'How Do They Do It That Way?' has been played on video by Tuba Skinny so many times that there's precious little left to say about it. The song was composed by Victoria Spivey and Reuben Floyd. It was recorded by Victoria Spivey in 1929. Tuba Skinny included it on their 'Garbage Man' CD long ago, and again on the 'Owl Call Blues' CD. The main point of interest is that the band starts and finishes in the bright key of E flat. This key is specially effective in the final chorus which is mostly played by Shaye against stop chords. But there are four choruses in the middle in which they drop to B flat (partly to accommodate Erika's tessitura). See Shaye signal them down to B flat at 01:08.
In 1929 Victoria Spivey recorded 'How Do You(sic) Do It That Way?' in July and 'How Do They(sic) Do It That Way?' in September. Floyd presumably was her husband in July and her ex in September because he was credited on the first record and not on the second. To complete the job the copyright for 'How Do They Do It That Way; words and music by Victoria Spivey' was registered in December.
Thank you so much for another wonderful video from the museum concert. 🙂 👍 👏 👏 👏 👏 Danke für ein weiteres tolles Video von dem Konzert im "Klingenden Museum" in Bern. Tolle Aufnahme. Liebe Grüße aus Berlin.
Great to hear and see this. Was really hoping to have got to see them on this tour, but life gets in the way, bah! The rhythm on the banjo here is lovely ❤️😊
Erika did sing for a short while , best to listen to it on headphones as sound not too clear. Erika had surgery for a throat problem, probably reason for not singing so often. Wonderful band always have it on in the background when working.
I've been away chasing Judith Durham, and only just started following this tour. But surely you aren't judging a band of this calibre on the strength of a performance or two. They sound as good as ever to me, and just keep on and on producing the goods,no matter what the lineup of the moment. And "let" her sing? They're too democratic for that sort of thing.
This is the best of American traditional jazz from New Orleans, the cradle of jazz. So good!!!!

Nothing short of perfect, as usual. Nice to see Erica on tour. Guess she wanted to see Switzerland, who wouldn't?

Great sound but why does the lady playing the drums sit down like she is and looks odd
Let the girl sing. You are going down the drains.
Not a chance of Tuba Skinny going down the drain(s). If Erica isn’t singing, there’s a reason.
