Great interview! Love Donovan Bailey. He will always be precious in my heart as a Canadian woman of Jamaican descent! 🇨🇦🇯🇲🇨🇦🇯🇲 Core childhood memories unlocked with this one! I remember the explosion of happiness and pride in my house when he won those races!

Shed some tears watching this. Donovan Bailey was the REAL DEAL. If not for a torn Achilles he'd have made 9.75 during his career and maybe Sydney 2000 would have had a defending Olympic champion. Also with the head down first 40m method today maybe 9.69. He was F-A-S-T!!! I remember watching the 1996 final. There were 2 false starts (Linford Christie, defending champion expelled) then a lacklustre start and a WR to make up for the loss of Christie as credible competition for Donovan Bailey. Just have so much love for Bailey for the memory and for his anti-racism stance. When he said "I didn't see any Americans in the medals" after the 100m it rang L-O-U-D! Us in the UK loved that!!! It was a real message to the Uncle Tom's out there in the US. Go Canadian Skyrocket!

This is an excellent interview. I think Donovan really described the mindset of a champion...these people are killers!...their level of competition goes way beyond what can be imagined. I met Donovan after an event in Ottawa and I thought he was really great...I doubt that is usually the case when you get to chat with an icon. Thanks for making me aware of the book...can't wait to get it! God bless...

As a huge Track fan, massive sprint fan. Loved Michael Johnson so don’t want to sound as if I don’t love Donovan too. I do, think he’s awesome. Serious top end speed. In hindsight MJ didn’t have a real chance over 150m.
My wife’s Jamaican 🇯🇲 I’m Irish. Donovan is a great guy. Great interview & read Undisputed.

I was there. I still believe (like Donovan does), that MJ pulled up because he knew the straightaway was coming and it was no way he was beating him.

It’s possible….it really is but MJ was injured after this. The Chicken comments is quite funny now but it was different then. DB has a far greater top end speed.

Great interview! I’ve subscribed. Finally heard Donavan wonder aloud about what his time would have been had his start been even decent. 9.7 was there. It was awful! But the way he made up that ground is also why that race remains one of the most exciting in history.

  • @williamsmith7340

I have always been a Donovan Bailey fan. He put Canadian track athletes on top of the world by setting records, and put an end to American track arrogance when they tried to usurp his “fastest man in the world” title - a title always conferred on 100 metre runners - by claiming Michael Johnson, a 400 metre runner was faster. But c’mon. Ben Johnson at 9.79 was the fastest ever Canadian.

  • @freedomfinalfrontier5878
