Jared, this video got me into MH. This series kept me going in this game franchise and its changed my life. Coming back to this after getting high rank in Rise... so much nostalgia. Thanks a ton, man.

I credit this series to being why I love Monster Hunter. I was put off by all of Tri's systems and harsh difficulty, but this playlist taught me what the game was all about, and led me to buying 3U on my 3DS. I've been hooked on the series ever since, and I have nobody but you to thank for that.

For anyone else who is starting out, Monster Hunter is among those games wherein investing time in the tutorial is definitely worth it. I used to insist that I'm a melee fighter and went with that mindset when I played Monster Hunter. But because of the tutorials and the training sessions, I found my affinity for Heavy Bowguns. I always picked melee in other games but in Monster Hunter, being a range fighter is much better for me.
So be patient and take your time in the Training school. It'll be worth all the energy and time.

Even if it's doing just as much damage as the other swords or more, it constantly feels like a disadvantage being so slow.

Honestly, This is one of the best videos to teach people how to play this.
Speaking as a person whose first MH game was Tri, it took me about 40 hours of effort to figure out about 1/5th of the stuff he mentions here.
Jared simplifies the major mechanics of the game so that they can be explained to a person without pulling out a dictionary. That honestly takes a massive amount of effort to achieve, seeing as how my attempts to explain the game usually end in failure.

    "They're all the best."
That's actually a really good thing since if a weapon is better than the other weapons but is the least fun to me, I'd be really unhappy. And then still play with the weapon I like the most.

    • @Diamond1234

No. Like any MMORPG game, since the starter armor is usually the weakest and worthless so you minus well take it off and throw it since doesn't even provide and worthwhile defense or use in the long term.
On the other hand, starters are useful for you forever. Unless that's what you meant, which in that case, yes. xD

I got Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the 3DS. It's my first time ever that I played a Monster Hunter game and, wow, do I SUCK at it. All I do is gather herbs, collect butterflies and other stuff from the ground, and fish, (when I'm using a sword and not a gun) but that's about it. I did not ever use my pickaxe to gather minerals and when I encounter a monster, I CANNOT kill a SINGLE one, NOT EVEN THE LITTLE ONES! (What the hell?) I did not even bother trying to kill those herbivores because they're not out to kill ME, they are just minding their own business. However, thanks to this guide, and others that I'll be looking at, it can be pretty useful. Soon, I'll become from a complete beginner to a monster hunting master. Thanks, ProJared!

This is actually EXTREMELY helpful for players who are brand-new to the series. It gets a lot of things clear that might still be fuzzy after reading the instruction book or even the Strategy guide. One thing that I personally still have issues with is an easy-to-comprehend armor list, and the effects that each full set will provide. I'm looking forward to future videos. Perhaps go into detail about each weapon, and it's certain strengths and weaknesses?
Great job! Can't wait for more!

One thing I did discover, take advantage of everything around you. Hunting a random monster or gathering spot often opens up new armor choices. Once you get the hang of armor skills, you can even work around getting a full set. My Barioth set doesn't have the arms. They used the rarest parts. If I did get them, my fire weakness would be increased, as would my ice attack by another point, yet it would weaken my constitution. Complete armor sets usually will give you a negative skill together. Instead I crafted a fire resistant armor with an ice attack amulet. Same bonus, different approach. Also you can change your armor pigment under change appearance. Helps you stand out and helps your Brachydos weapon match when you use the light green.

I don't know if you noticed, but handheld games have been amazing since probably 2012-13. I bet you only have bad opinions about it because you've watched videos online. The reason why the resolution is so bad is because the screen is way smaller than a youtube player. The upscale is so shitty. But trust me, handheld games look good on, well handhelds. Not computer screens.

I can't possibly comprehend why Capcom has decided to disregard the Sony consoles for the MH franchise. The games for the psp were amongst the best titles on the that console, and with the next-gen arriving these games would be amazing ! It would bring so much profit for Capcom, not to mention how many people it would make happy. Pokemon I understand, they've only appeared on Nintendo consoles and they want to keep it that way. That's fine. But why MH ?? :(

    • @BenPlaysTheGames
      @BenPlaysTheGames 10 лет назад +1

its whatever consoles are most popular for their target demographic, which are the Japanese.
The Wii U and 3DS are much more popular than the competing consoles in Japan

It's a great game, but MH4U comes out in about a couple weeks, so grab that instead. Same thing with more features, and no annoying underwater combat.

Thank you for being the only person to give me a polite answer to my question. I appreciate it. That all sounds neat, and something I can appreciate from action-adventures. The series' art direction and lack of story has played into my opinion of it, too. I don't always need a narrative in my games, but it helps.

I've linked this video (and the wiki) on several forums now. I like to answer beginner questions about MH, but sometimes threads get a bit overwhelming with people who don't know how to google or simply read the manual.
I hope these guides really takes off to make beginners (and veterans alike) better understand the MH games. After all, more experienced players will want more MH games to play, creating a succesful market to secure western releases for the future.

carpenterbug that is needed to make certain wepons, armour and villagequest can be found in the cat nest on D.island (area 4).
if you find sharkskin SAVE IT, it is very hard to get and will be important later on in the game in a villagequest.

I just played the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate demo on 3DS and I loved it.I went with dual blades since I like to get fast combos rather than do tons of damage with a single strike. The dual blades allow for a "flurry of strikes" as the game calls it,meaning that you can get multiple fast hits off in fast succession.
