The one lens you have, that I LOVE, and have also is the Thambar 90mm. It’s going to stay on my M10M,for a year. So i can really get a good feel for it. If i could only find a group of people, that have a dress code from the 30s,40s, i would have a lot of Fun. Great video.
“I’m not a 35mm shooter, it’s garbage..” 😂 I have found that I shoot 50mm almost exclusively and my lens collection reflects that. I have so many 50s… Thanks for the intel and the clearing up the retro lens options.
I use the following three lens kit on my Leica M6 rangefinder: 35mm f/1.4 90mm f/2 21mm f/1.4 I use the following three lens kit on my Nikon SLR: 50mm f/1.4 105mm f/2.8 24mm f/2
Great vid. For me it was always 50/28. I got the 35 double aspherical last year and I’ve fallen in love with it. 35 AA and 50 .95 are my two lens kit now.
Great video Gary, I like the idea of carrying lenses that fit the same filters, never thought of that. I traded my old 90 2.8 I believe, and probably should have kept it. For me now, I really like the 21 and my favorite is 35mm from 1953. As for cropping, whenever and if ever it crosses my mind, I remember reading that Jim Marshall (rock and roll photographer) did not crop his photos. Since shooting Leica I keep that mindset.
Great video, i am not a leica shooter yet I am a canon guy but love the colour straight out of leica....... My go to 2 lense is 24mm & 50mm sigma f1.4 & if if given a choice of 3 i take 85mm f1.4 as well
I am leaning towards 35mm as my main prime lens, but I still have not ruled out the 28mm. That’s one reason I like the Q3. It allows me to easily crop into 35mm but still have plenty of resolution. All-in-one. I have a 75mm but I don’t end up using it much. If I’m using a 28mm, it is helpful to bring a 50mm, or vice-versa. But if I bring A 35mm, usually that’s it.
I rarely need anything wider than 28mm. When do I have felt that 21 rarely helps me. For light carry travel, I like to stick with 28, 50, 90. If I were to go someplace where it would require a wider shot and I cannot stitch it from 28/50, I would take the 15mm.
the 28 is on my camera 90% of the time. I carry a 50 with me just in case. The other thing to do is when you are looking at the data in Lightroom, see if you are cropping a lot. If you are shooting with a 28, however are cropping in a lot, then you maybe more of a 35,50 shooter.
@@forgottenamericana I mean i need very seldom weider than 35 mm for landscape. In the city and for portraits its more comfortable for me to use 50mm. So my set is what you can see above.

I mainly use these three lenses (P.S I use a YASHICA FX3 SUPER 2000)
28mm f2.8
50mm f1.9
135mm f2.8
The old classic kit!

Yes David. I can hear that with your signature laugh after that. Lol.

That dbl Asph. So jelly. I loved the shots of the lens you showed with the woman. Perfect.
35+50. Tried 15,28,90, felt no desire to use them, so I reduced back to the mighty double.
The viewfinder is best for 35mm! Main reason! I prefer 50mm on my M3!
Oh yes! It’s nice having the extra room outside the 35mm lines to see what could be coming in your frame!
The filter stack is such an amazing tip for light weight filter carrying!
It’s awesome!! Takes up such less room. I added the Amazon link in the video description.

Nice. What 35mm from ‘53 is that?

Canon makes some fun primes. I like the R 35 f2

You can’t go wrong with the 35mm. Signed Gary

Agreed. The ultra wides are less needed than the tighter lengths.
great video! great info! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Great tip!
Мне очень редко нужно шире 35 для пейзажа. А в городе и для портретов мне удобнее 50. Таким образом мой набор на М11: 35cron, 50lux, 90apo
I can’t read Russian, but I saw your lenses. Nice kit! Can’t go wrong with those!

28, 50 and 90
Excellent choices!
28/2+50/2
Or get the Konica Hexanon 21/35 dual and carry only one lens 😉
I wanted to try that lens. Someday.
All 😂
It’s an addiction!
