@@dv4975 Mad Love by Jojo was a very solid album in my opinion. Pretty cohesive, a lot of fun songs like F*ck Apologies, High Heels, FAB, Good Thing, Edibles with a touch of ballads like I Am and Music
I can't force myself to like Jojo's most recent release Sabotage, but Joanna is great, I have high hopes for her new album
With Tori, i find her first album Unbreakable Smile pretty forgettable, but I think she's really found her style on Inspired By True Events, sure songs on it are not to everyone's taste, but I love the album tbh

This video definetly shows the difference amongst mezzos and sopranos. Even though Tori shows some comfort singing low, JoJo's lower range is absolutely richer. The same chain of thought works for Tori's ease on singing high.
Plus the output in the midbelts. Both are chesty, but Jojo's B4 to D5 area sounds much fuller

Actually, tbh they may not even be who they are if they started their careers in the 1980's or 90s. They both are *heavily* influenced by Mariah (and do her justice too!).
Without Mariah, Whitney, maybe even Christina (maybe not for Jojo), they might not be who they are.

When JOJO hit the Tank run, that did it for me! I knew what it was as soon as she hit it!!!!!
All this proves is that while the record company that kept Jojo down for 10 YEARS, 10 years that could have been her prime time in music, she has been practicing her ass off day and night to still be this talented 🤯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 And Tori has come so far since her American Idol audition. Shouts out to this show for introducing me to Ariana Grande's only one. When I heard Tori Kelly sing that song on this show I had to research and I found Ariana's recent performance on that song and it was amazing and I played it and share with all my friends. Jojo and Tori Kelly both sound absolutely amazing they are so gifted and I'm so glad that they're still recording music and willing to do fun shows like this.

Both Amazing, JoJo sings with more passion (a little more showy). Tori can do the same, but she's more restrained and will do runs here and there when necessary. She's more agile but definitely JoJo sings with more heart. Love them both.
Nutty Drop I actually don’t agree with this! I think JoJo is actually pretty shy when it comes to showing off her true vocal capabilities. Her musicality allows her to adapt easily to her circumstances and when she thinks she can’t hit certain notes she sings around them instead of just going for it! Also I’ve noticed that she just recently started to incorporate more runs and truly allow her agility to shine. I think she could do MUCH more if she wanted to.

Tori's voice is so easy and consistent with all the runs. Jojo has so much soul in her tone and I love the break in her voice. I'm just glad Jojo's back with her music and showing she's still one of the best R&B singers alive today.

I love Jojo. I just want to say that not every singer NEEDS to sing 1000 vocal riffs per line of a song in order to be "talented". It doesn't "shame" other artists or w/e, music isn't about that, its about honest feeling and emotion (and the message!). Jojo pulls it off because its her style and its fucking great! But I don't need all my popstars to do the same thing in every song. You can still be super, amazingly talented, write a beautiful song that changes the world and not have to sing in this style...Also to be noted, some singers CAN sing like this but choose not for the sake of quality > quantity.

I agree to a certain degree. You don’t have to do a million and one runs but you do need to be able to have dynamics, range and technique. Having different textures to your tone helps as well. Doing runs and melisma should be used as accents and not the totality of your singing. Singing is 50% emotion and 50% skill. The best vocalists are able to marry both in their own signature style. Others can either rely on one or the other and have a niche career but to be included in the same conversation as the greats and be renowned across genre and field then skill is a must.
@@badd.lil.ting88 True. Although i think good riffing/melisma is just one aspect of good technique or being skillful. Many singers can riff but can't hold a clean straight note with resonance and vibrato - which when done properly is technically just as impressive in my opinion.
Yes, my two favorite singers rarely do runs. Sarah Vaughn and Lizz Wright.
I think that’s what made Whitney and Mariah so special, they knew when and how to properly use riffs and runs.
Sometimes it’s more powerful to just hold the note.

the gap between them and the vocal trinity is not that much on vocal skills, but the quality of their songs. I know jojo and tori fans will say they make great music and the mainstream ones are actually shallow. well, music is evaluated based on how people appreciate it, so you have to accept the taste of the majority. and btw, the vocal trinity have countless songs that are artistically masterpieces and meanwhile being mainstream.
