To all the people wondering how he stayed on, this is partly how; when his horse was bucking, he was doing it repeatedly, and when you are on a horse bucking nonstop you kinda get in a rhythm with it. The other part was because he is an experienced rider who probably deals with that on a daily basis :)
these front up and than back up is not that hard to sit too as long as the horse goes straight. But if he bucks with more power and higher youre lost xD

You're bareback riding is improving. I once groomed for a top Kiwi rider that rode a dressage lesson with a visiting German instructor with no stirrups. (she had rolled her ankle unloading her champion when we arrived that day and found the stirrups were too painful on her ankle, so she took them off). She had been worked hard that day but that did not break her, her fitness and core strength were impeccable. I was so proud of her and the big boy, they made it look flawless in that arena with all of those leering eyes waiting for her to slip up. Sometimes your peers can make it suck at the top but that was a great day.
I just love Wilson. When you first got on him his "Damn, Pontus forgot the saddle!" expression was priceless. The weight distribution on his back is so different when you ride with or without a saddle that he must have thought you had lost your mind. LOL! But he's a good horse and adapted. You are very lucky to have Wilson.
Well done sitting that without a saddle - my ex-racer TB (17 years young apparently) had a similar episode last week and I was shocked to still be on bound afterwards and I had a saddle and a bridle
i wonder.. Did the rider feel the difference in the tension of the muscles of the horse. As he rode in the snow the horse looked a little tense. In the past i couldnt really connect with a horse when lunging it. However, when she was ready for riding i noticed she tensed up when asking to do certain exercises. Now he rode the horse bareback he could anticipate on these tensions hence the relaxing ride.

After the first test in the indoor ring I would have ended it on a positive note since he did so well and called it a day, or taken him out for a 10-15 walk around or hack out of the arenas and let him relax and just be a horse. He’s quite handsome, and doesn’t seem bad. I think he’s just testing you to see what he can get away with!
"You don't want to break bones or get wet." - I will get this tattoed xD I fell of 5 times in total in 13 years of riding (my horse is an angel, but clumsy) and broke 2 vertebraes, my hip and my kneecap 🤣 never got wet tho

When I gave horseback riding lessons the riders were required to ride without stirrups at the trot and canter. Equitation classes often required it.
