- In 2001, the cast of the 70's sitcom What's Happening!! were interviewed by Bryant Gumbel on The Early Show. 4 actors are there: Ernest Thomas (Raj), Fred Berry (Rerun), Haywood Nelson (Dwayne), and Danielle Spencer (Dee).
That was rude he just cut her off 😡
One of the best classics! Wish Mama and Sherrly could have been around for this. I can quote over 100 lines from this show and still watch them to this day
I really like what D did. She didn't rely on acting alone. She went to school to be a veterinarian. Which is so important. Especially for black actors, because in Hollywood the opportunity isn't there for blacks the way it is for whites...
That lil Girl Dee was something else on that show.
I read that Mable king had diabetes & only had one limb when she transitioned saying " doctors can take everything but that take my spirit & soul"......♡
I do miss those days. I still love “What’s Happening” I’m 52 now and love watching old television. This new stuff is way overboard on just about every level.
One of the best shows of all time. I’m 32 and still watching the show daily in 2023. Long live what’s happening!
Mabel King and Shirley Hemphill are not in this interview because they died in 1999. I agree with Ernest Thomas that the second show should have had Mabel King, but I believe she was suffering from health issues already by that point. Bryant Gumbel really cut their answers short.
wow this interview was VERY rushed...they almost had to compete with each other to speak. Would've loved to have heard more...
Gumbel said they were all young kids when they started on the show.. but that`s not true, Earnest Thomas was pushing 30 years old when the show started and Fred Berry was in his mid 20`s..... Only Haywood Nelson and Danielle Spencer were young kids at the time...... In this interview Fred looks all of his age which is about 50 but Earnest still looks alot younger than his actual age.
Fantastic casting for this show. They truly meshed well. Recently, I started watching the series again and they all played their parts wonderfully. Timeless show that still holds up. Shirley, Dee and Rerun will keep you laughing. And, bonus, nothing is better on this show than watching Fred Berry dance. He gets his dance ALL the way on.
always loved their show and characters - still watch it too
RIP Fred Berry/Rerun...
Need at least 45 minutes to interview this fantastic cast! Too short!!
Man I miss this show. I miss this type of tv altogether. This cast was awesome
This show was hilarious, shame they don't make them like this anymore.
They all look better with age!
Dee was Gold in that show. and EVERYBODY loved Mama. black or white. no shit!
Absolutely correct! The Ensemble is what made this show a success. Too bad they were interviewed by Bryant Gumbel. He's such a jerk.
I'm watching it right now. This show is a classic.
