Hi Andrew. I fly Quads and have made a pair of skew planar (4 leaf clover) antennas for my goggles. At the distances I am now flying from myself they are working as well as my pagodas, but I haven't really pushed or tested them to their limits. I am interested, as a hobbyist in being able to test my antennas so I can learn how to make them better. Do you know of any computer based spectrum analyzer software that would be affordable for a hobbyist? I have a RF power meter ( hobby grade) but that can only take me so far as it doesn't allow me to see if my antenna is tuned well or not, the way a spectrum analyzer would. Thanks for making these videos, this one especially! Sean
great to see nice results from little mods! i ordered a sector antenna for 2,4ghz , should be 17dbi, no special purpose for it yet but i find this kind of antennas very interesting and like to experiment, it use some kind of cones 8 pieces or so on circuitboard. I couldnt find more details. Maybe a thing for your next projects the make of those sectors / arrays of quads and other shapes combined. i made a 8-double bi-quad array which is about 1m2 in size years ago for the digital tv on the air , worked great but its down in basement somewere as we have iptv now.
andrew mcneil I'm with Kenneth. Since the stopper mod really flattened it out, maybe the loss of bandwidth you got from the length reduction is countered by adding a stopper to the shorter antenna.
great videos sir i had a question how we make a loptop wifi card into usb adapter because the laptop wifi card is easly find from scarp and offcurse the alpha and tp link adapter is expinsive
interesting stuff, i crashed damaged one of those cheap antenna and ended up making it into a 3 leaf antenna, i made a very average job of it and it still worked as good as the 4 leaf. i wonder if it is worth doing this to all my quad 5.8ghz antennae ?
Hello Mr. McNeil, And can you tell us viewers what the block is called that the antenna is attached, I assumed the tap is attached to the sweep receiver for reflected signal, is this correct?
I used the info from the pagoda antenna and the 12mm is less than a ¼ wavelength so it makes sense otherwise it will start to radiate after the stopper. I will look at 2.4ghz but at a guess and it is a guess, you would place the stopper around 23mm and the stopper would have a bigger diameter but will have to test.
I have not tested it just used the measurements from the pagoda antenna but it makes sense to have the distance from the stopper to the elements at just under a 1/4 wavelength otherwise it will start to radiate after the stopper
first of all I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH !!! AND THANKS FOR COMING BACK And you can check out discord here discordapp.com/ or just simply google discord it's a platform where you can create a server , and then add rooms to the server with different topics , its very popular :) and its very easy to use , :)
he means a chat server, like the old inter relay chat used to be. It would be better for Q&A, but I'm not sure that's what you intend to do with your channel. You'll end up being a free teacher, or the point of reference for a knowledge sharing community. A very interesting concept in its own, and definitely worth being created, but like I said, it might be outside the your scope (pun intended) ;)
Great info on the why on 3 blade, 4 blade, coax length!

Love those experiment !!
Can you put some of your antennas on this and shows us what a good results look like.
Hi Andrew, great video, but what happens if you combine the two mods?
Hi Yusuf you don't need both as they both do the same job
andrew mcneil the redundancy dept of redundancy wants to know.

Great work. Thanks!
Any chance on modifying a AOMWAY FPV 5.8G helical antenna to get to actually work? Thanks really enjoy your videos.

hey andrew is this mod applicable in your biquad yagi, yagi's or panel antenna for transmitting? and would it be improve it?
Andrew,do you have more than one Alfa installed on your pc and if so, how did you do the second?
How can i purchase these antenna from you...and what is the best antenna for 2600 Mhz 4G?

directional coupler www.techopedia.com/definition/18885/directional-coupler I will make some videos in the future about all the test equipment I use.
Thanks, site bookmarked.
How did you determine the 12mm distance? I want to apply the same to 2.4ghz.
I do like these videos, but 3 minutes about a washer. Far easier to use school compass or scribe divider.
Does the distance between the end of the antenna and the stopper matter?
I have not tested it just used the measurements from the pagoda antenna but it makes sense to have the distance from the stopper to the elements at just under a 1/4 wavelength otherwise it will start to radiate after the stopper
Make video on yeagi Antenna?
Do you mean yagi? I have made quite a few past videos.
Can we have a discord server ?
What is a discord server?
