Hey ANDREW. I was looking how you isolate some elements from each other except at the balun. I usually deal with 690-800 MHz and bought a LPDA wideband. It got hit by lightning and didn’t work. Once I pulled it apart, I saw it didn’t have a ground plain and was all one piece. I cut it in half and put it back together but isolated all the elements and made a closed loop at the front of the antenna adopting your practice. I connected everything up to the repeater and in less than a minute it worked as prior it would take ages, often failing. Once again mate it was your expertise that helped me. Thanks again

It does not seem like anybodys questions have been answered, but i have a question have been wanting to make one of theses for months and i am almost finished with it! But out of serious curiosity i would like to find out if anyone can help why is it that the center coper or brass in my case shaft or ballin is supposed to be 13.5 mm when only 10.4 is above the reflection serface? And how is it that only connecting the co axe at the very bottom and not letting it tuch at the top makes a difference in its performance isnt it all still the same wire? Ore some how is it more space for the raidio wave pulses to go uo reverberate and come back... but if that was the case wouldnt the ballins volume affect its match ? Because i have seen people use huge 3/8ths inch ballins and mine is maybe .24 at the most is eather of the two better ? Thank you also why didn't you Mention thee importance of makeing shure the totally co axe length is a multiple of the frequencies wavelength? I cant seam to find the answers anywhere and antenna science really fascinates me so thanks id really like to know

it was not clear for me where the balun can and can't touch the coaxial braid

Hi! Im looking for a crosshair antenna for 1.3ghz or actually 1.280ghz, how about making a video about it and then I can but it of you?

"how about making a video about it and then I can but it of you?" Let me guess, English is NOT your first language.

Andrew once again nice build how do you think this will stack up against your 10 turn helical that I am currently using out to 9 or 10kms? Bill

Your instructions say 13.05mm for the ballen, You build yours 13.5mm Is this a mistake? Cheers

How do you come up with the length of the elements, 11.08 and 13.11? I assume it's based on the exact frequency?

hey mate, doesn't the wire elements should be specific diameter? for 5.8 biggest should be 0.026mm

+Perry Wolf around what size if I wanted to build the double crosshair? Would the same 100 x 70 mm work?

PiMan Honestly not sure because I don't know how big of a separation you need, but the footprint of the actual crosshair is only about 26-30mm, so you certainly don't need too much space. My guess is you'd want a 150mm length. I'm not well educated in this area though, only starting building my own antennas, so I wouldn't take my word for it!
