- Lisette Oropesa masterfully sings "Caro Nome" (Beautiful Name).
This is Gilda's aria from Rigoletto; a piece by the great Giuseppe Verdi.
Performed at the Dutch National Opera, DNO
#Rigoletto
What gorgeous vocal color in a lighter-voiced repertoire. High notes like a fine violin.
I honestly didn’t think singing could be this great after Sutherland, Callas and Caballe. Lisette brings back those glorious days in her performance.
Caballe! Lucia Popp! Callas!
So agree I was despairing to ever find another Caballe she is very near xx
I fail to see why so many think that the singers of yesteryear were so much better than today's. I am sure they are just as good to listen to. Lisette is only one of many examples.
With sopranos like Lisette the Opera will never die
THOSE TRILLS ARE LIFE!!! Bravoooo Lisette!!
and she can do everything- spectacular messa di voce, filati, trills on any note
Wow, real trills in a really natural and seamless voice! This is really rare nowadays! Brava
Homoclassicus I have always thought a great trill has always been rare. The great ones were natural and improved upon. However now most singers don’t even try and achieve one and some of the attempts are just that, an attempt.
This is indeed a trill. One I haven’t heard since Sutherland retired.
Those are just my thoughts on what I’ve been listening to over the years.
This aria is much more difficult than anyone could thought. Congratulations to Lisette Oropesa for her amazing work and talent. Brilliant performance!
She has a Stradivarius in her throat. Bravissima!
Indeed - lovely to hear a modern singer who can actually trill. Voice most attractive.
Lisette Oropesa canta come un usignolo ed è anche una persona assolutamente amabile.
This is one of the most perfect things I've ever heard.
Ahh so beautiful a voice. She is one of the modern sopranos that has a voice for the ages.
Ces grilles... ces trilles... mon Dieu, ces trilles ! Quelle ligne de chant ! Quel bonheur ! Quelle merveilleuse, quelle magnifique, quelle généreuse et somptueuse interprétation ! R e s p e c t !!! ★
Supreme!!! Nuanced, Intimate, FLAWLESS!!!!
This young woman is fearless in pursuit of the vocal art! I adore her!
Vocal art indeed !!! Very rare nowadays !!!
There's hope on the horizon! After listening to years of mediocre new singers, finally a real voice! Brava!!!
Che TRILLI! Infiniti e perfetti, intercalati con i piani e pianissimi! Gorgheggia come un usignolo! Fiato, agilità allo stato puro. 🌷💯🦋🎵
Божественное пение🙏🏻
The most Beautiful caro nome from a living Soprano💕😍❤️
Absolutely wonderful. Really looking forward to her Lucia at the ROH this fall.
Velvet and iron at the same time.....That is what comes to my mind when I hear this beautiful voice !
Agreed! had the same thought...the voice of a fine cloth polishing a piece of metal!
i like that analogy!
Seldom we hear sopranos who really apply the bel canto technique. The rest of them are just show off.
Hello, it's everything very interesting but I just don't understand it very well. What is the difference between her and other sopranos. I believe there is difference because of course I hear she sings rarely beautiful but I don't understand why is it so. You people seem to know what you're talking about and I always feel lost because I cannot really tell what's the difference. I probably didn't say it very well but I 'd be very pleased if you would explain to me what are the differences. :)
Zuzana Holičová I think it is her tone quality and also that of her vibrato - her spin is gorgeous!! It is not an overdone vibrato which we hear too much of these days. And also yes, her trills are executed perfectly. The other thing is the way she colours her sound - it’s pure and she can make it dark or light...and OHHH those pianissimi!!
@@beatifulshadow She sings with emotion, but she doesn't contort or distort her voice in any way. It is her voice. She doesn't sing too light or too dark and she has a lot of breath support so she doesn't sing from her throat. For example, Anna Netrebko used to have a really beautiful voice but sung too dark repertoire and her voice dipped and it is now less capable. On the other hand, Oropesa seems to only go for light roles and seems to be in complete control of her voice.
@@beatifulshadow justo listen others Many times and you will find the difference
Well above the usual standard of today's singers. I hope she resists the siren call of heavier roles.
*6:53** | OH MY GOOD!* Finally after Sutherland we have another human’s perfect triller!
Brava!
And diction to boot! :)
maravillosa Soprano
Extraordinary in its total technical perfection, musicality and beauty! Great mastery and great art!
It has been so rare to hear the Real Thing in opera in recent years (rather decades)....
So many well-deserved compliments. She is a top-class singer, with such breath control!
I just died.
Bravaaaá!! Bravaaaá!
Mesmerizing ❤️👏❤️👏❤️
Che meraviglia!!! Bravissima!
Сильный,красивый голос,ведь для трагедии,это лучшее
я согласен с вами
as far as i know, she is the only contemporary singer who has voice, technique, good look, and...( and this is VERY rare today) CHARISMA.- this one really makes the difference
I am so glad that Opera is not dead, an that I am amongst those who appreciate it.
her voice is getting even warmer and bigger!!!
Perfect Trills!
Um verdadeiro colibri!.. Un vrai colibri! A REAL colibri!..
Reminded me of Lucia Popp. Great rendition, put me on the edge of my seat few times. How many times have i hear Caro nome..
Lisette Oroprsa una cantante litica dai mezzi vocali eccezionali timbro bellissimo impostazione naturale note centrali ed scuti ben modulati anche in falsetto Michel Lagrotta.
Just referred Popp in m comments above. Gorgeous, both of them.
me too reminded me of lucia popp
Those trills!!!!
great singing, stained by these horrible photos of a trashy production my god.
The photos are quite ugly, but the production in real live was amazing, beautiful and very powerful and touching.
Since I learned about Lisette, this is my favorite soprano
I second that emotion!
Reminds me of Anna Moffo
Belíssimo!!!...
Cantas maravillosamente bien, me recuerdas a Lily Pons. Excelente.
Oropesa is indeed an amazing singer, in an era where truly great singers have been so few and far between. She is definitely a tremendous gift to opera.
That being said, I'm now going to discuss the huge "pink elephant" in the room, that no one has even mentioned! What's with this really bizarre production??? Are these shots from when Gilda is actually singing Caro Nome? If so, what in the hell is it? Cuz it sure has absolutely nothing to do with the opera Rigoletto! Can someone please enlighten me?
Art Danks judging by the blood it might be lucia?
Rigoletto is in a mental institution, and he is haunted by his personal ghosts, the whole thing is sort of a confused flashback. The Duca, Gilda, and others crash onto the scene through holes in the wall. Rigoletto goes more and more nuts.
Did you see the production? I went to see it twice. The cast was really amazing, and - for me at least - the production worked. It generally made sense, the story was still easy to follow and it allowed the drama to shine. Not everybody liked it, sure, and it wasn't traditional, but I think it was interesting, effective and - importantly! - highly moving.
@@timmeijers87 I actually went to see this production twice as well! I flew in from London just to see it and then I stayed an extra couple of days to catch it again. What you said of the production was exactly right. I found the entire experience completely visceral. Generally, I am not that interested in modern productions, but there was something about this that just made complete sense.
Not only were the performers were all completely at the top of their game, probably the best cast I have ever heard, but the production gave a real sense of place and horror. The masks showed how Rigoletto was completely obsessed with the Duke and the walls tearing apart were him breaking under the loss of his child. I was so floored at how such a concept and a modern production really worked. It made me realize that not everything needs to be so traditional to make sense. You just need a fleshed out concept and incredible performers.
@@markatwood4634 Visceral is exactly the right word! I don't know if you know this, but there is a recording available on the website of the dutch public broadcaster, here: www.nporadio4.nl/ntroperalive/uitzendingen/526376:2017-05-27-ntr-opera-live
Although far from being my favorite singer, I have to recognize that this is a good rendition of this aria. Her lyric voice fits this music like a glove. The trills are there, beautifully done, but the stacatti are missing. As one commenter said, she should resist the temptation to sing heavier roles in order to keep her voice as healthy as possible.
She does have the staccati. They do not come as easy to her as to other singers, but there are a couple of videos on RUclips where she sings them. I think this one was rather a stylistic choice, in order to keep the fluidity of the aria going, aided of course by her show-stopping trills.
Another star has been born.........so beautiful!
Gualtier Maldè...nome di lui sì amato scolpisciti nel core innamorato!
Caro nome che il mio cor
festi primo palpitar,
le delizie dell'amor
mi dêi sempre rammentar!
Col pensiero il mio desir
a te ognora volerà,
e pur l' ultimo sospir,
caro nome, tuo sarà.
Tutte le feste al tempio
mentre pregava Iddio,
bello e fatale un giovane
s' offerse al guardo mio...
Se i labbri nostri tacquero
dagli occhi il cor parlò.
Furtivo tra le tenebre
sol ieri a me giungeva...
son studente, povero,
commosso mi diceva,
e con ardente palpito
amor mi protestò.
Partì...il mio core aprivasi
a speme più gradita,
quando improvviso apparvero
color che m' han rapita,
e a forza qui m' addussero
nell' ansia più crudel.
No one I am aware of, except Sutherland, could make such a natural, and sustained, trill at the end of this aria...until now. That alone got my full attention. A very gifted singer in a world where they are growing increasingly rare. I have only discovered her, and I wonder...does she have the high staccati?
She does have the high staccati. They aren't as easy as Sutherland's perhaps, but there are a couple of renditions where you can indeed hear her sing them. She has a high Eb (as the cadenza in this rendition confirms) , but I'd dare say that she feels most comfortable up to a high D.
Es la soprano del momento!. Buena presencia, técnica y vocalizacion perfecta.
This voice and interpretation deserve a beautiful setting. It is not the case. Do the singers like this kind of thing or they accept it because there is no alternative?
I thought I would never hear a trill as good as Sutherland’s
and you won't! 😁
PLUS.... she is articulate in Italian !
Its even BETTER
Sutherland's trill? No. This is trill! There was no trill technique like this since Maria Callas.
Reminds me a lot of Callas, I mean that as a compliment, she takes risks, pushing limits. Amazing performance
Glad you mean it as a compliment!!
I love the soprano, but this looks like one of those horrible productions that you see too many of these days.
It was a very beautiful the production. I saw it twice. The staging looks quite ugly in the pictures, but it was very well done. It was was a very powerful staging.
OMG those trills...
Like Patti, Melba or Tetrazzini! Brava!!!
The longest trill ever😂
Beautiful voice, disgusting production.
OUT OF THIS WORLD!
What a voice my God!!!!!!
She is just fantastic.. speechless... ♡
What I dislike the most are hospital beds in an opera stage, and you see them frequently.
Mes respects, Madame!
she sounds just like Gheorghiu at the end
HOLY SHIT!!!!
Just ravishing singing! Though on the light side, her astonishing timbre can shade the melody from dark claret to brilliant gold! Have not heard this perfect a technique since Kathleen Battle!
She reminds me of Mirella Freni, here. Brava,Lissette Oropessa!!
Wow!
MAGNIFICENT!
The only soprano I have heard sing the top C at the end of Act One in 'La traviata' performances at Covent Garden.
Jesus this is good
Perfection
