Honestly I do. I reached the end of season two and I couldn't take anymore. Hats off to him. That Archie storyline really happened? You cannot be serious.
I think the best way to end Riverdale would be either a)They go back in time, stop Jason's murder and everything is fine. No cults, no psycho serial killers, no witches. Everyone is alive and well (Jason, Polly, and even Archie's dad could be brought back by Archie calling him or something), and Riverdale is back to being a normal town with normal people. The last scene is all the main characters having a milkshake at Pop's or b)It was all a dream/Jughead's creative writing assignment/They are doing drugs in college and just saying whatever. But they'll probably just explode Earth or whatever.
@@shambhavitripathi6124 Yeah but they can do a scene where Archie calls to his parents off screen in a happy way, like "I'll be back for dinner love you guys" or something normal idk
I always thought Riverdale was a book Jughead was writing since he’s the narrator. The last scene with them at Pop’s diner would remind me of Friends going to get some coffee in the final episode.
Riverdale getting cancelled is the most shocking twist in the series...can't wait to see them one-up it by having a finale that literally rips into our dimension and melts faces off
The ratings have been in the dump since Season 5, which was getting 400k live viewers. Season 6 is getting 200k live viewers, half of what the network is probably willing to have. This show's been doing insanely bad.
I love when you turn the screen black after the ridiculous moments. It really lets me get a good look at my own face of disbelief and disappointment lmao
This show had so much potential. S1 and S2 had me on the edge of the seat. After that it all went south. It’s a pity to see how everything all turned out
The thing was, we were expecting a remake of the archie comics and we were not only betrayed, but bamboozled in the most entertaining way imo. And that is something very Uniquely Riverdale.
At this point you can practically use the word Riverdale to describe something so ridiculously over the top that you can’t even quite put your finger on it 🤣
When this is all over we need to get Dylan Is In Trouble to watch the first and last episode of Riverdale. It will LITERALLY be like watching to different shows.

I'm happy about the jobs that were created and kept during this show's run. I'm happy that it shot Alex Meyer's career to unimaginable heights. And I'm happy that we got such amazing animated clips as the character select screens to preface each storyline and of course, the musicals. But good f**king riddance. Let us please give money to something better from now on.
This is CW. They kept Riverdale going for this long and made Batwoman. I'm pretty sure the money is going to be used on another cringey dumpster fire that no one asked for.

@@isaamaandaa Exactly. Use decades long established characters, let a revolving door of writers who don't care about the IP use them for their fan fictions so the story is all over the place & makes no sense. Just like with every OG IP, destroying them in the process. The CW (we don't have it in Australia, just the odd show) lets these shows go on far longer than anyone else & ratings don't matter (Batwoman). No wonder it's up for sale.
Riverdale happened when the writers and/or executives thought Wattpad-original stories make sense and that they implemented many of its elements into the later seasons.
As someone who actually watches riverdale up to this point, the only character that have had rational reasonings to things are that one school therapist that just pointed out the absurdity of Riverdale, and the autopsy guy. Therefore, they are my favorite characters.
I feel like if they had just made each season it's own story (like an anthology series) it would've been better rather than changing genres halfway through seasons. I would've stuck around if each season was cohesive but a different genre each time.
honestly the only episode i came back for was one of the ones in season 5. it was kinda an anthology season, if that makes sense? each episode was different, but i say kinda because it was all related in the end. i have no clue how bc i didn’t follow up on it except with alex’s videos, but the episode i saw was so good, i wished these actors would be given a role in a project together again i do enjoy them.
@@ictlab1345 yeah I stopped watching before the time jump, I couldn't do it anymore. I wish they had done the anthology concept from the beginning. It would've made the different jumps in genre so much more cohesive. I think I was only really watching it because it filmed near where I work and live.
When I hear this totally off-the-walls-dialogue, I think to myself, "these are AMAZING actors to be able to say these things with completely straight faces and act like it's super serious." Then I wonder if, after seven years of having to recite this dialogue, have their souls just... left their bodies?
I know my soul would’ve left my body looong time ago if I was one of the actors. If I was Lili Reinhart, that moment would’ve been when stripping while singing Mad world. If I was Camila Mendes? After the first time of having to call Archie ”Archiekins“. Kj Apa? Climbing and homping the fence like some crazy ass baboon when the girls came to perform ”Jailhouse rock“ outside the jail. My soul would’ve gone wooosh
Personally, I think they find it fun. I mean, where else do you get the chance to act this crazy and get paid like a lot of money for it?? It honestly sounds great lol. I mean, when you watch all of them in the show, every once in a while, you can see just how much fun they are having while doing all of this.
I’m genuinely going to be a little sad when Riverdale ends. Like, sure the show is absurd, but the trick is to embrace the absurdity and just roll with it.
Very well put. Now I wonder does anyone can make a more absurd show than riverdale? Cause honestly I think Riverdale has the highest level of absurdity that media could offer

Man this show went so downhill, Season 1 truly looks like a masterpiece. Yes it’s corny and has a lot of questionable moments but it was fine for what it was. Most of the original black characters disappeared, I actually miss the parents, and the show was good without Hiram constantly harassing the kids, in fact I’ve come to dislike Hiram. He is literally a mustache twirling villain, always trying to destroy others lives, especially Archie for no reason. I also really loved when the serpents were the main villians and had the rival gang plots even though it was goofy, but in a good way. I actually wanted a serpent’s tattoo 😂. The show felt like a darker version of Scooby-Doo without the dog. Just a couple of teens solving a murder mystery of the Queen bee’s twin brother. Even the parents had their own problems and secrets that somehow impacted their kids. There was no supernatural and things were sort of normal. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I miss the Archie and Ms. Grundy drama. Sh*t was wild.
Okay but the scene with Jughead and Percival just made me realize that a show about a group of teenagers with special powers having to defend their town from nosy reporters while simultaneously battling inside supernatural threats could have been so entertaining on it's own. In the context of this show as a whole (plus all the lore from the comics) it's just a mess though.
I remember watching the first season of Riverdale and enjoying it but then watching it devolve into the beautiful mess it is today. I have watched Alex's Riverdale videos religiously and at the end when he mentioned it had been on for seven years, it hit me. 7 years. Where the hell did that time go? Damn. What a world we live in.
@@WhySoPrettyJinsoul. no it’s been five. Riverdale came out in 2017. He probably says 7 because since it’s getting a 7th season that means 1 season per year, which isn’t what they did

I'd need to do more research on this, but CW cancelling most of their iconic shows probably means it's a money management issue more than anything else. For Riverdale, I think every actor breathed a sigh of relief when they learned of their "release".
its not cancelled... its just literally ending. This is what happens when shows have had successful runs and the actors reach the end of their contracts. They knew 7 seasons was the goal. The media is just click baiting for views saying the show is cancelled when its just simply ending because it was all mutually planned.
@@racool911 Well obviously. Not any different from, any other network cancelling shows every television season. The Coroner, Walker, Kung Fu, Nancy Drew, All DC Universe shows and both All American shows have all been renewed. Not to mention they have upcoming series Tom Swift premiering later this month, and Walker, Supernatural spin offs and Gotham Knights premiere later this year.
When archie was becoming completely invulnerable with cheryls help I could not stop laughing at how ridiculous it looked. I can only imagine what that scene looked like without all of the special effects 😂😂
This just sounds like endgame to me. Someone unbeatable shows up. Someone time travels and looks through so many possible outcomes, then a character has to die to win.
But, like, using mind reading to bypass deafness is actually really interesting. It could lead to some interesting conflict in a good show with good characters.
When you ask the cast of shows like Arrow anything about the series after the end they usually describe everything almost perfectly. The Riverdale cast will not remember a thing about the show
this show is so embarrassing. i remember when the cast really thought they were doing something with this show back in the first couple of seasons and now you can see they're just dead behind the eyes knowing what its become
You're acting as if they're doing these insane plots by accident and expected it to be this revolutionary show. No they did it because it got people watching. Hate watching doesn't help
Yeah, I watched a video of an interview with the cast & Lili & others seemed excited about the show & praised the writers & I was like, "Wha-?" Then I saw that the video was from 6 years ago. Ah, so this was before the show became a laughingstock. It was such a contrast to the snarky comments, facial expressions, & total lack of engagement in later interviews.
"I don't know if any show is ever going to take the place of Riverdale." Don't underestimate the might of human absurdity Alex, before Riverdale happened, they said it for pretty little liars too.
Please 🙏 let it be real 😭 The actors and the team deserve BETTER than working on this show, the freedom will heal them. For sure. The devil needs to be defeated once and for all.
it's true, ever since David Zaslav became the ceo of warner.discovery, a bunch of horrible CW shows like Batwoman, and other DC shows were murdered or canceled. I think the network is for sale or something.
I totally agree with everything Alex said especially at the end. I mean, there’s just something about Riverdale. It’s always there for you to kind of escape reality because it will never be a reality (and least is should not ever be a reality). It’s kind of become like a comfort show for so many people to just have it to fall back on. And especially the part where he said that’s so many people’s jobs. I mean, not even just the actors, there’s everyone behind the scenes, which is a lot of people’s jobs. Riverdale was probably like a safety net for so many of them as well. I don’t know
I actually think them finally embracing supernatural stuff made the show better--if they had implemented it earlier on the weird/asinine stuff would have made more sense, IMO.
The ratings took a dive in Season 5, which was getting 400k live viewers. Then in Season 6 it dropped to 200k live viewers. This show is doing insanely bad, and it's pretty obvious they screwed up with the direction it took.
@@realtalk6195 I think they had hope aging them up would help but it unfortunately didn't which is strange considering a major critique was that "HOW ARE THWY DOING ALL THIS WHEN THEYRE 16" or some shit.

S6 is probably the best one. S1 was a bit too Teen Drama for me and S2 was a good middle ground. S3 was.. just terribly written, the concept was fine but execution isn't their strong suit on this show. Which is why I think Season 6 is so good, for the first time ever they seem to have a plan and the writing is consistent

Ok so I haven’t watched these in a while and I’m just speechless by this insanity. Were the writers force fed mushrooms while having a fever dream? 0:33 I will literally never forgive the cancelation of Dirk Gently's. I have never seen a show with so much raw potential and they just decided to waste it for no reason.
Being upset over Dirk gently and I am not ok with this cancellation gang. Although atleast before covid was a thing one of the producers got the rights to the show and was making an animated kind of sequel. You can look it up it's real. I kinda understand why they cancelled it, after what Max Landis did, but I also don't know why they couldn't of swapped out the directors.
I feel like the actors are the ones happiest about the cancellation you can tell they’ve wanted out for so long I’m happy about this just so the actors can move on cause a lot of them are good actors the writing is just so bad there’s no way to not make it cringey 😂
The only thing we're gonna miss from Riverdale being cancelled is the "chose your character" animation part in your videos. Edit: so the show is at its Endgame stage A character sees through different timelines and the only solution is for the "main" character to die. Yes. Very original
I don’t know if I should laugh, because this dumpster fire rollercoaster is over or cry, because Alex’s commentary made me love/hate this Alice in wonderland acid trip….*mentally exhausted due to all of this conflicting feelings* 🙃
Let's just take a moment to remember that there was a show called Archie's Weird Mysteries where they actually dealt with paranormal and supernatural abnormalities, and even that show was more sane than anything happening in this show.
Archie's Weird Mysteries was less insane because it at least had a plan going in. That plan was to ape Scooby Doo, and so it never really went off the rails as much as the rails themselves were absurd. I'm not sure the Riverdale writers have anything resembling a plan or if they just get really high and go "dude... what if Archie became batman..."
I don’t know how to feel about this…I’ve had many, many times where I’ve been “this sucks, I’m outta here” due to how stupid and insane the show can get but…it’s like…ya know? I do hope the cast do well after the shows ends though❤️
My first reaction to this was "Oh sweet release! The cast is finally free.", but at the same time I feel bad for you, because it gave you a huge jump for your channel. However, I won't leave anytime soon.
Easy, in the order they were released. Season 1 despite being corny looks like a masterpiece compared to the rest. It was just your average middle/ upper class teens solving a murder mystery of their fellow classmate. Season 2 was shaky, but I still got through it. The Black Hood being Betty’s dad was fine. I gave up on Riverdale after episode 7 of season 3. Archie became an idiot constantly ignoring Jughead’s warning about Hiram and ugh that’s all I remember.
Well it's basically this order: Season 1 Season 2 Season 6 Season 5 Season 4 Season 3 Everything but season 1 and the first half of seaoson 2 is absolute trash tho, however in season 6 they stopped trying to find unbelievable explanations for their stupid storylines and started to go supernatural which is a good aspect.
I'm actually surprised it lasted so long, on the bright side we got a lot of funny videos thanks to you 😂😂😂 Also there's another show on the CW network called Naomi which is next level bad, compared to that riverdale is a masterpiece. You might want to check it out. And great video as always Alex
I was living my best life one random day last month, and Riverdale happened to come on, specifically the Tabitha episode. And to say I wasn't confused to all hell would be an understatement. I watched the first two seasons because I found the concept really cool, but now. Now I'm terrified at what it has become. Genuinely terrified.
It wasn't a MASTERPIECE in season 1 it was like watchable like something that you watch with your girl like every weekend but it's not critically acclaimed
I’ve always liked this show, even when the whole thing went to shit. But this train wreck of a show will be missed, there was a piece in there for everyone.
I really use to enjoy Riverdale during the earlier seasons but as they kept making more the writing got lazier, several themes kept on being repeated, people seemed to not care as much as they used to and it was about time that it finally came to a close.
honestly, despite having never watched the show, im a bit sad that it’s ending. i mean, what show will i mercilessly make fun of now? it was always fun to know that an alex riverdale video was just around the corner and i think no show will ever be as unhinged as riverdale. it’s laughably bad but also interesting as hell. videos tearing it to shreds are hilarious and the show itself is too, especially out of context
There's only really 3 things I'm thankful to Riverdale for. #1 will always be the concept of the Jughead hat as a beanie and it being available as actual merch. I had always loved Jughead growing up whenever I'd occasionally read the comics, and that love only grew after discovering I was ace and that he's a very prominent ace rep character. #2 is it being, like you mentioned, my gateway to this channel. It introduced me to a creator and content I greatly enjoy, that I might not have come across otherwise. #3 is it also introducing me to some actor's that I might not have come across otherwise and whose other works I've now gotten more exposure to because of that. So thank you Riverdale, for giving me these things. Despite you not really being what I'd want out of an Archie comics show, you at least didn't leave me empty handed with only bad writing in your wake, like you could've done.
Supernatural is fine, Riverdale was like Scooby Doo it's like if they all just got powers and stuff for like no reason. Also, supernatural you knew it was going to get crazy
Honestly, I give the people behind Riverdale props, they've created something really special that we're probably still going to remember in 20 years. I mean its horrible and the plots are bat-shit insane, but honestly the worst thing a show can be is just ok, and Riverdale is as far from just ok as it comes, so it has done really well and will probably keep doing really well. Who knows, maybe it'll be the next The Room and someday they'll be a Hollywood Movie just celebrating the utter insanity of this show's existence. And for that I tip my hat - entertainment is a hard industry to make it in and if you make something people care about, even because it's a dumpster file of spectacular proportions, you still make a lot of work for a lot of people and created something that spoke to people...
I touched my heart that you brought up Dirk Gently, it's such a great show and it's so unfortunate that it was cancelled. Still holding out hope that it'll be picked up by someone who continues it!
Oh Alex, you’ve never heard of “Days of Our Lives.” That show started when my mom was in Highschool way back in the 80’s and got like 35 Seasons! One of the best shows ever, allegedly
About days of our lives or young and the restless. I have a vague childhood memory of dead characters not being dead but actually being trapped on an island with some kind of barrier around it. Never actually watched those soaps but my grandmother used to ever day so some osmosis happened lol.
I saw an actress on that show the other day (it was just on in the background I promise) that I can remember seeing when I was a 10 or 11 & I'm 59. She still looks bloody marvellous. Whoever the plastic surgeons are for these women, I could do with their number.
Didn't expect to have mixed emotions but when I saw the title I was instantly like *"I mean finally but..aww Archie's abs were about to save the world"* I'll miss these videos.
Oh my god, I’m dying 😂😂😂 I haven’t seen this show in like, 3 years but I’ve kept up with it through your videos and it never fails to amaze and entertain me how insane storylines become. Just when I think it couldn’t get worse, it always does.
16:17 I fully expect them all to turn into animated versions of themselves (like the comics) and be blissfully unaware that they were ever anything else. Either that, or it turns out they've all been dead and on a magical island, purgatory the entire time
I hope Alex will do a more serious retrospective on Riverdale when it ends, similar to his old video essays, as it's the show that kick-started his RUclips sucess. I think that would be really cool for people like me who've been subbed since those video essays.
While I agree his video essays were fantastic, is there really much of anything deep to say on Riverdale? I mean, there's a bit to say about planning ahead and not treating your actors like shit, but I can't see there really being enough for an entire essay.
Never heard of a show changing its genres completely They had so much material, jugheads family dysfunction Archie navigating his father’s death Cheryl dealing with the family business and her father’s death and her mother… Etc
I actually think I started watching your videos because of Riverdale. I needed to know someone else thought this show was absurd as I thought it was.
Archie's dad actually can't be bought back because the actor died in real life
@@shambhavitripathi6124 Yeah but they can do a scene where Archie calls to his parents off screen in a happy way, like "I'll be back for dinner love you guys" or something normal idk

I always thought Riverdale was a book Jughead was writing since he’s the narrator. The last scene with them at Pop’s diner would remind me of Friends going to get some coffee in the final episode.

Too bad the writing isn’t there
Smallville? Kinda? It’s mostly just Clark defending but other superpowered people help out here and there, it was pretty entertaining iirc
Kinda like Gruncle Stan made the Mystery Shack in Gravity Falls, that could make a pretty entertaining premise.

Can I just marvel at the beautiful artwork and music choice for this segment. Just, wow. I really did love that...
Tabitha traveling through time and witnessing the end of the world in every scenario kinda feels like a rip off of the umbrella academy if you ask me
More like Doctor Strange in Infinity War
Dr.strange!!
Damn you're right-
And no shows can compared to Riverdale when it comes to most cringe and unhinged! I will missed Riverdale for a bit, though.
I'm gonna really miss these videos.
And, let's be honest, I'm REALLY going to miss all these awesome "Character Select" screens Alex does.
"Has a show ever gone off the rails and still been renewed this much?"
Allow me to introduce you to supernatural 😂
I mean it brought us Scoobynatural so it isn’t all that bad
Yep. 😂. But Supernatural started up Supernatural from the very beginning. Unlike the crime mystery show cough cough Riverdale. Lol.
Supernatural is fine, Riverdale was like Scooby Doo it's like if they all just got powers and stuff for like no reason. Also, supernatural you knew it was going to get crazy
Dont read my Name!!!
Nah. That show at least maintained some sort of a consist world. Remember the first season of this show? This has become absolute batshit insanity.
Dirk Gently was really entertaining
it was an absolute rollercoaster of a show. miss it so much!!
Can we just appreciate his videogame like editing? It's amazing.
Oh Alex, you’ve never heard of “Days of Our Lives.” That show started when my mom was in Highschool way back in the 80’s and got like 35 Seasons!
One of the best shows ever, allegedly
I would pay good money to watch Alex do a review of every episode of Young and the Restless.
@@livelovelife32 never heard of it, googled it, found out it’s been on half a century! 😱
I fully support this idea
About days of our lives or young and the restless. I have a vague childhood memory of dead characters not being dead but actually being trapped on an island with some kind of barrier around it. Never actually watched those soaps but my grandmother used to ever day so some osmosis happened lol.
Hey those soaps are legends!! 😂😂 And given that their soaps, bat shit crazy things happen there. Yes, I'm defending DOOL. 😂😂😂
Dont read my Name!!!
Oh my god, I’m dying 😂😂😂
I haven’t seen this show in like, 3 years but I’ve kept up with it through your videos and it never fails to amaze and entertain me how insane storylines become.
Okay the superpower thing honestly would have been cool....IF THE SHOW BEGAN AS A SUPERHERO SHOW
Never heard of a show changing its genres completely
They had so much material, jugheads family dysfunction
Archie navigating his father’s death
Cheryl dealing with the family business and her father’s death and her mother…
Etc
I actually think I started watching your videos because of Riverdale. I needed to know someone else thought this show was absurd as I thought it was. And I've had several moments where I stopped watching but I knew you'd keep making videos about it and so I would catch up. Now here we are, 7 years later, losing our minds together. Proud of us making it this far and being on this insane journey.
Let it be known this will be the last absurd show I'll watch. No one else can do it like Riverdale.
