Why Guy Ritchie Should Stick To Gangster Movies

  • Guy Ritchie's first two movies Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels put the director on the map in the gangster film genre. Though Guy Ritchie's next run of films, mostly from major studios, would not live up to his original outings. Aladdin, King Arthur, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E, we're all panned by critics. Until he rediscovered his roots with The Gentleman, proving that maybe Guy Ritchie should just stick to gangster movies.

I totally disagree : Guy Ritchie doesn't need to stick to just making British gangster movies.
He just needs to find creative ways to incorporate his unique style into different style of movies.

I appreciate Ritchie's ability to bounce back as a big name director, even after experiencing disappointments and criticisms. Also, it feels like the man has made use of that sweet sweet Disney money from Aladdin to finance whatever kind of movie he wants.

I don’t care what anyone else thinks but I absolutely love Guy Ritchie’s “The Covenant”. It’s one of, if not thee best, war movie I have ever seen and I’ve seen quite a few in my lifetime.
    Excellent movie!
Peace & Love to You All!! ✌🏻❤️

Lmao. The only Ritchie films I own are his non gangster ones: Man from UNCLE and King Arthur.
I normally dislike spy movies and anything King Arthur related outside of Fate/Stay night. Yet these movies were incredibly enjoyable. Made me respect Ritchie.
The only other director to do something similar is Villineus(Dune Director). Because I dislike anything related to Cyber Punk... yet that Director made me love Blade Runner 2049 despite it being a cyber punk film.

I'd rather have a director try different genres rather than being stuck in the same one. Say what you want but his live action Aladdin remake is well regarded among audiences. His King Arthur is found to be underrated and highly entertaining. His latest film 'The Covenant' is one of his highest acclaimed films. The point being no director should stay in the same field. With just those 3 results he should be able to tackle whatever genre he wants.

Honestly, the only Ritchie films I've ever really watched were Snatch and the Sherlock movies. I LOVE the RDJ Sherlock and wish they'd done more, and Snatch is an absolute staple. I honestly hadn't even heard of half of his other films, including the bombs.

I think if Ritchie is going to stick to gangster movies, he should make them far from each other. He should make one every 5-7 years with an odd movie in-between a few times. This will ensure the audience does not have a Guy Ritchie fatigue. Just a suggestion though.

Wrath of Man was a pleasant surprise, went in expecting a typical Guy Ritchie film but was instead a very serious crime/revenge flick. Really enjoyed Covenant, Man from UNCLE and Aladdin was the only Disney remake I liked. Give this guy anything. No pun intended.

There is no reason for Ritchie to just stick to one genre. He must and he should experiment with multiple genres to evolve as a filmmaker. What he needs to do is to pick up good stories and scripts from multiple genres and then improvise creatively.

Strongly disagree, although the Gangster film is his specialty, he should not stick to it, that's just asking for repetitive movies and lack of innovation. He did a great job with the Covenant and a pretty decent job with Wrath of Man, he should definitely try other things, even if it's not his specialty.
