  • There are two concentric cylinders. The inner cylinder is rotating at an angular velocity of 40 radians per second. The outer cylinder is kept stationary. The water is flowing in the annular space between the cylinders. Analyze the effect of cylinder rotation on the fluid flow.

    Dear Ansys Tutor, I am having some issue in using UDS (user defined scalar) in Ansys Fluent. The problem goes like this
    There is a 2D horizontal pipe of length say 500mm and radius 10mm. Air flows through it (from inside) with an inlet velocity (mean) and temperature of 0.1 m/s and 600 degree. Initial temperature of complete domain is 300 degree. Top wall is insulated and bottom wall is to treated as "axis". Find the temperature profile after some time (say 2 seconds). Till now the problem is pretty simple and straight forward.
    Now the problem arises when instead of using ENERGY EQUATION from models (available in Ansys Fluent), we are asked to solve the same problem using TRANSPORT EQUATION (by using UDS) and the default energy equation available in the models is switched OFF.
    This will give all of us a crystal clear understanding of how to work with UDS.
    Thanks in advance.
    By the way ur Ansys videos are simply great and very helpful.

    first of all i'd like to thank you for these most helpful videos on RUclips, i have really learned a lot! now I am doing the research about ANSYS simulation of two-way fluid-structure interaction on cantilever beam. This is to study about the effect of fluid speeds on the displacement and frequency response on cantilever beam. The cantilever beam will be subjected to fluid velocity (cross flow) on the enclosure fluid channel. Thus, i sincerely need sir help and create the video in detail about the two-way coupling FSI. very appreciate and thanks to sir.

    Hello. Thank you for the tutorial. Why using transient solver with constant boundary conditions?

    • @AnsysTutor
      @AnsysTutor  2 года назад +1

      The inlet flow velocity need not to be changed in transient simulation. Transient solver results gives us the flow behaviour and changes in the rotating pipe in the given time period.

    In 3:29 you choose an axisymmetric algorithm, but I don't have that option. How can I enable it? Or is it because of the license, perhaps? I'm using an academic license in 18.2 version. It's a big problem for me because it's that option that makes the mesh to be better shaped at the inlet and outlet, otherwise I have to run with those deformed quad cells on the mesh.

The concept is almost similar to this video (rotating drill pipe act as inner cylinder and rock formation wall act as an outer cylinder), but, the annular space will consist of viscous drilling fluid and cuttings (crushed rock/sand or solid particles). Can you give me tips or direction on how to perform this simulation? Your kind response is much appreciated! Thank you

      @@AnsysTutor the different start after meshing. the value of volume, area, mesh quality etc were different.

      @AnsysTutor  3 года назад

      It might be due to a different meshing. Different versions have a little different meshing approach. That might have caused the change in meshing.

      @@AnsysTutor Kind of. Its like liquid(water) kept in a container(bowl/glass) and the container is rotated about its own axis.
      Like we have swirl machines that create a vortex or tornado in a fluid

    • @AnsysTutor

      For such case you need to select multiphase model to observe the vortex.
