First I want to say thank you to Auto Repair Champs for pointing me in the right direction, this was a strange code. I wanted to share my own experience and how I fixed this problem. So I pulled off the under dash cover to check the switch plunger and found that someone else had already been in there. First they had glued a penny to the plastic stopper on the brake pedal, then they bent the brake light switch/shift lock assy bracket so far forward the switch plunger was barely making contact with the penny. So the first thing I did was to straighten out the bracket so the plunger was lined up with the stopper on the pedal. Then my OCD took over and I went on a quest to reengineer the pedal stopper with a thicker rubber stopper which led me to figuring out the original engineering flaw. The metal tab on the brake pedal that the stopper mounts to is made from a piece of steel that is too thin for what it does so it bends inward/forward away from the brake light switch plunger. So I replaced the plastic stopper on the pedal with a rubber stopper and with a small pry bar I bent that tab back towards the switch plunger until there was no more gap, problem solved (for awhile at least).
Thanks for sharing ! 👍
Dude, I know you posted this years ago, but just replaced the brake booster and had same issue, car would act weird accelerating, and also the brake lights would stay on. About to go do another test drive after the adjustment, but from the other comments here, looks like this is the fix!
Thanks for sharing

You are welcome !
Good work men
Thank you !
I'm having the exact same issue o my 2013 mazda cx9 grand touring. Took it in to get all 4 breaks pads n rotors changed n then I started having the issue with the break engaging on its own when I am accelerating. Also my break lights stay on even when my suv is off. I'm not very good mechanically but I will try this on my own and see if it works. Thanks.

I have a 2012 Mazda CX-9 that I just finished replacing the brake booster on, which was a massive PIA due to difficulty getting it out. Anyway, when I put it all back together I got a "TCS Off" light when I started driving it, and the car acted erratic with slightly odd shifting and an unstable feel. When I got back to the house I hooked up my OBD2 reader and it showed a P2299 code. I found that exact brake switch was the culprit, the switch was not getting pressed all the way when I released my foot off the brake, therefor the car was reacting as though the brake was engaged. I assume this freaks out the ECM and hence the TCS goes off. I temporarily fixed it with a felt spacer, I tried to do the twisting method of that plastic piece and it wasn't enough. I might try bending that metal bracket though.
I had the exact same issue. While driving around with the bad booster for a couple weeks I pushed really hard on the brakes a few times, I think this introduced some play in this brake switch.
Good 👍🏼
Thanks ✌
Is this tutorial compatible with a 2012 Mazda 3i as well???
It could make a trouble for turning on the engine in cars with automatic transmission ?
Yes it could
What problem can it be when the brake light turns on but sometimes not, I can brake twice in a row and they do not turn on the third time if
Could be your Brake Switch under the Brake Pedal, OR your Brake light just can be simply bad. Also, check the harness where the brake bulb plugs into and the connectors , I've seen where they melt and they don't have good connection=.
