Brian Moore was the best commentator. I loved European football so much on ITV as a kid. I'll never forget this game in particular. One of my favourite memories. I've been to so many night games at home and always disappointed to have not seen this one.
same for croatian clubs, this year Hajduk Split also reached quarterfinals, we are still remembering this season and wondering if will ever be chance to do something similar, it was great time
This was a fabulous game of football. I was only 11 at the time, but this season with United in Europe still lives in the memory. I remember it mainly due to the revenge exacted on Galatasaray after the previous season and the behaviour of the Turkish police, but also the emergence of Jesper Blomqvist at Gothenburg, who then became part of the United treble winning side of '99. Ferguson spotted him in the two games in 94, and had his eye on the lad. I also remember well the emergence of a certain young Mr David Beckham in the Galatasaray game at OT, in which he scored. Great stuff. Great memories, even if it was a failure in Europe that year.
I was the same age and feel the same about this campaign. I had the Man United on Video series at the time, so I watched the highlights of this season over and over. Loved it. Shame about how the season finished though. And a shame United must have to be classed as Europe's biggest underachievers. We should have won about 5 Champions Leagues with Sir Alex.
This was great times. A Swedish team could actually compete at the highest level and it was only about 15 years ago. Then came Bosman in 95 and furthermore there were no longer any limitations on how many foreign players a team was allowed to have. That is what changed everything along with the ever increasing importance of money.
@Stensture obviously in this years champions league malmö was close to enter in the group stages of the champions league, but i can't see it happen that any swedish team will have success on international football in the next years. those were the years when ifk gothenborg and hjk helsinki were in the champions league group stages but success in football is more and more about money and they don't have it, these times are over maybe they can comeback, would be nice to see :D
Jeg var faktisk på Ullevi den kvelden. David May ble regelrett rundspillt av Jesper Blomquist! Herlig stemning.
This Gothenburg team was quality and United did well to beat them. Thomas Ravelli was always a superb goalkeeper and they had several other really good players. Didn't they actually top this group above Barcelona, got a win and a draw against them? Speaks for itself really...
guess why ? the english, spanish, italian and other pro teams has a bigger budget so they can buy better players. Swedish clubs cant buy as good players as england can. Swedish teams has mostly swedish players not like proteams who can buy players from wold wide. and at the time this video is from the swedish players had other jobs. their job wasnt fotball fotball was just a hobby :) have a nice day dude! :)
What I don't get about the old 3-foreigner rule is that United had 5 foreigners in their starting 11 in this game. Look at 5:30 - there's Schmeichel (Denmark), Irwin (Republic of Ireland), Kanchelskis (Russia), and Hughes and Giggs (both Wales). Or did Wales not count, since Welsh teams can play in the Premier League? I agree that the rule should be brought back. Not being racist about it at all (I speak two European languages myself), but the old days were more exciting because it was about each team developing quality players, not just spending loads of money and buying the best ones from everywhere else. That's not the point of football.
I think it's because Hughes and Giggs came through the youth academy at United Also as a Chelsea fan this would be my team if the 3 foreigner rule happened - Mendy, James, Chalobah, Christensen, Hudson-Odoi, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell, Mount, Baker, Loftus-Cheek
Brian Moore had a fantastic voice for commentary, fond memories listening to him and watching the Champions League on ITV.

Although I’m a Newcastle fan living in Manchester this was the 1st game I ever went to! Great memories

Now it was 25 years ago
bring back the 3 foreigner rule, teams like Gothenburg & Rosenberg have suffered greatly because of this.
BA it would also mean you wouldn’t be able to guess the same quarter finalists every year
It is a shame.
If there didn’t stop it united would have won it 7 times early 2000
Neville brother in defence Rio
Beckham Scholes giggs
Cole sheringham up front
It would be fantastic to see a clip from the second game between IFK and Man United in Gothenburg that year.
IFK went through to the quarterfinals that year. Cant see that ever happen again with a swedish club.
5:52 They actually played the full hymm? Normally they play just part of it.

0-0 away and 1-1 at home against Bayern. They didnt loose a game that year... Still had to leave the CL.
They lost to United

Blomqvist was that good we bought him

It's so weird now calling SAF "Alex Ferguson"
Great thanks.
Roy Keane's voice has come down a couple of octaves.
Champions league felt different then. Felt like a fancy League Cup. Not even lying. These days it is the holy grail.
Champions League on itv good times, Kevin Keegan while manager of top of the table Newcastle on the gantry cant see Pep or Klopp doing that!
Memories
De åkte ur i gruppspel 2000 menar du?
Roy Keane was quite handsome!

Giggs was classed as an assimilated player as he came through the youth set up at United
What two European languages do you speak?
I think it's because Hughes and Giggs came through the youth academy at United

@@rohithraman6488 German and French. Also learning Scottish Gaelic, since I now live in Glasgow.
06:16 Vilket lag alltså.. Oj oj oj...
1993-1994
And to think of these teams won that group later. I'll give you one hint as to who they were: It wasnt Man Utd!
Oh Hell no :D

nicky butt lol
Man Utd have a mediocre European pedigree.
Look up what medicore means. They're literally in top 1% and have the longest unbeaten streak in cl history.
