thanks for posting all these very enjoyable videos, i think that all these have the same rider, who is this please? a test rider maybe? the helmet paint job is very nice, one of the best ive seen.
Steve Mclaughlin could have won at Daytona on this bike, mechanically the same as the 1970 winner in '73 but Honda refused to listen to him complain about swingarm/tire interference....just like they didn't listen to Jim Odom about exhaust pipes limiting lean on the CR450...just like they put a Honda dealer on the 4th factory bike at Daytona in 1970...
As far as I know, Honda prepared two CR450s for Bob Hansen, who subsequently sprayed the bikes in his own team colors. Honda was no longer involved, so they can't be blamed for not listening - in my view it would have been up to Hansen to do something about the ground clearance.
@@joepkortekaas8813 Hansen was specifically instructed by on-site Honda personnel NOT to in any way modify the CR450 exhaust systems. Seems they didn't think the "American" would need to lean it over that far. Jimmy Odom would've won the Junior race, except he grounded an exhaust pipe and high-sided. You can look it up in contemporary accounts. As for "not involved", see first sentence.
@@caribman10 Well, I certainly didn't know that about Honda's instructions, thanks for the information!. I knew that Odom high-sided while leading. Honda must have learned something from it, because I have on one of my CB450 based classic racers an original Honda exhaust system, with plenty of ground clearance!
Another thank you for all the great Honda videos!

By the way, I mentioned the fight between Jim Odom and Walt Fulton in my book "Honda's Four-Stroke Race History 1954 ~ 1981".
