    Thanks for the excellent Df unboxing. I enjoyed it! However, there was one small area where a little more research may be required (see 3:17 to 3:24). The top, back, bottom, and internal support frame of the Nikon Df are made of magnesium alloy (metal). Only the front plate of the camera, behind the metal lens mount area, is made of tough polycarbonate (plastic). This camera has a somewhat better build quality than the Nikon D610, D600, D7100, and D7000, including better, D800-level weather sealing.

    Thanks for the unboxing of the Nikon DF Chase. I believe the Nikon DF is a full frame DSLR where as the Olypus pen that you mentions is a micro 4/3 camera and I believe it's mirrorless so that would account larger size of the Nikon DF.

    I might as well weigh in here too.....I recently had the opportunity to purchase a new camera. I looked at the Df and the D610 (read all the specs and reviews on both & checked them out I in the camera shop) and I ended up buying.....wait for it.....
    The D710, Speed flash 700 and 85mm micro lens all for the same price as the D610 :)
    and I'm happy :)

    DF seems extremely cool camera. Loving the looks and seems to be working great. Unfortunately it's over my price point but man can dream :) Would be extremely cool camera to carry while shooting street photography. It's close to 3500€ in Finland.

    Thank you for correctly pronouncing "Nikon" as a North American : )
    Cool camera... The same quality and performance as D4 for the half price-if you are not a video guy-and a sleek design on top of it. I would buy one if I hadn't bought a D4 before.

    • @carriestewart7502
      @carriestewart7502 10 лет назад

      Simply because it contains the same sensor and processor as the D4, that doesn't mean it is of the same quality and performance as the D4. NOT EVEN CLOSE, my friend.
      The focusing system is a deal breaker for me. This unit has a full sized FX sensor in it but only contains a very limited centre biased 39 point focusing system that was originally designed for a D7000, an APSC sensor camera. Who needs so many points of focus in the centre of the screen? That's just stupid and very limiting when tracking fast action or trying to compose photos where the key subject is not anywhere near the dead centre of the composition. Give me a 51 point system that better covers the entire area of the sensor!
      This camera doesn't have anywhere near the frame rate of the D4, either. What kind of "performance" are you actually talking about when you begin comparing it to the D4?
      One more area of limitation of this camera is the top shutter speed of 1/4000 sec. In most situations, the one stop higher 1/8000 isn't needed but a camera of this price point should not be cheaping out on the shutter.
      And...It doesn't look like there will be a battery grip available for vertical shooting of portraits. Heck, even back in the day of film bodies, you could purchase a motordrive that not only sped up the frame rate, but also contributed to better ergonomics when using the camera vertically.
      This camera is a FAIL at this price point. I won't be lining up to buy one :-(

    • @RayWarren
      @RayWarren 10 лет назад +1

      Nikon is a Japanese company and the definitely doesn't pronounce it 'Nike-on' like North Americans. But I am sure there are much stranger pronunciations of the name than that. :-)

    Cool unboxing *****. I know how you felt with the size of it. I did not get the chance to unbox it myself, as I had to have my wife bring it overseas for me, so I took the opportunity to unwrap her, but I digress... I think the best way to describe the Df is DIFFERENT... I like it more than I dislike it...I actually "love" it for what it does, and I like that it does it looking well. I am still on the waiting list for the "perfect" camera whenever it is made...

    • @JDennisThomas

    • @DarrellYoung
      @DarrellYoung 10 лет назад

      The top, back, and bottom of the Nikon Df are made of magnesium alloy. The front of the camera is made of polycarbonate. This camera has a similar build to the Nikon D610, D7100, except with better weather sealing (like the D800).

    DF is not for me. Maybe some might like it but it won't do the job for what I do which is typically hi-speed motorsports, events and just about anything else. By the way, the D800 does hi-speed sports very well. Those that say it can't are just parroting. I used to shoot night stockcar racing with a 4X5 so I have very little sympathy for those that say you need FPS. You just need to know the sport that you are shooting. Basically I don't see the point in the DF at all and for $3k I'll get another D800/E.

  • @SamuelRiveraPhotography-OC
    @SamuelRiveraPhotography-OC 10 лет назад

    Hmm, without a doubt it is a very cool looking camera, one that I would love to use for personal family portraits. "BUT" at the price point of the D800 there is no way to justify the purchase. Good try Nikon but back to the drawing board.

    The DF is a over price toy that perhaps a wealthy hipster would buy for it's "retro" look. I personally would rather buy a D800 or D4.
    Because honestly.. who's that camera really for? I can't imagine professionals going out on assignment and bringing that camera as their primary.

    • @RobertXPhotography
      @RobertXPhotography 10 лет назад +3

      Just to clarify.. I'm not calling Chase a wealthy hipster, nothing but respect.
      I am however referring to those people who go out, buy the most expensive camera, and call themselves photographers. (I know a few) Buying the DF isn't going to make you a "traditionalist"

    • @RHelenius
      @RHelenius 10 лет назад +2

      Or someone that wants a D4 sensor, and can't afford a D4

    • @RobertXPhotography
      @RobertXPhotography 10 лет назад

      I would rather wait a bit more and save up for the D4.

    • @dwt110
      @dwt110 10 лет назад +1

      Robert Herrera "wait a bit more and save up" isnt an option for a lot of people seeing as lenses matter more than the camera body and the D4 is twice the price of the Df, so for the price of a D4 body one could get a Df and a 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 VR1.

    • @RobertXPhotography
      @RobertXPhotography 10 лет назад +1

      I guess if you are a studio photographer or maybe landscape? IDK.. I remember the days of film and I personally wouldn't want to go back to that when it comes to my work.
      I think this camera is more of a "leisure" camera rather than a "working" camera. And just because it has a D4 sensor doesn't mean it's a must have. I would be ok with a D601 and some excellent glass. But if I really.. really want that sensor, I would still wait for the D4. I could do so much more with it.
      Hell.. Nikon should just do a "build it yourself camera" and let consumers choose what they want. Just like I build my computer back in the day.

    chase send it back and get a Sony a7 :D

    • @FinlandApollo
      @FinlandApollo 10 лет назад +4

      While both are great cameras, Sony has got major design flaws and while it's a great camera when you look at the specs, in real life it's not really that great, having couple big issues that drop user back to the reality.

    • @josh885
      @josh885 10 лет назад

      Finland Apollo What issues are you referring too? I haven't heard much about the A7.

    • @k0pix
      @k0pix 10 лет назад +1

      I just sold my Canon mark 3 and all my lenses for canon, and got the A7 with the Zeiss 55mm 1.8 that lens oh my god destroys everything except the zeiss optus 50mm

    • @FinlandApollo
      @FinlandApollo 10 лет назад +2

      A7 might work nicely with normal focal lengths but when you use telelenses, the movement of the shutter creates so much vibration and movement that it 1.) Changes composition 2.) Makes handheld shooting with tele hard since you need to use faster shutterspeed than 1/focal length.
      Second issue that I'm referring is that while the camera body is a great one, there's no good lens to use with it. There's nothing really to use with it (No, we leave adapter alone now, if that would be the solving case, there's no bad lenses for different mounts then right?). There's only couple of lenses and few flashes?
      Third, the battery isn't that big, big sensor drains batteries out quickly. Also, RAW isn't really RAW if the camera tweaks it little like A7 and A7R does. And also, this is last one is just matter of taste: The menu is total flop. I hate it. Such a failure. This type of camera, that kind of sensor in that size and then you add a shitty menu interface is like driving Ferrari with sailor wheel...Which would be classy!

    Very awkward unboxing. Indeed on a pure design and ergonomy point of view, the result is very disgracious. The camera is already huge but it still seems too small!!! (for all those buttons and dials) It just looks to be the result of a quick and unthoughtfull design and conception. Nikon really underestimated the importance of design working time for that kind of project.
