I was CONVINCED that Zhang Hao was gonna get the “bridesmaid but never the bride” storyline all the way through. But it was actually the opposite - he was never #1 compared to Hanbin despite being so close all season long, but then pulled ahead just a SMIDGE in the finale, enough to finish first. And that was really incredible.
I think the difference between Kep1er and ZB1 is. 1. A lot of people’s one-picks made it. But the rest of the top9 those one-pick fandoms had was VERY DIFFERENT. (Kep1er). So everyone just only focuses on their one-picks, rather than a group as a whole. 2. There was a lot of Kep1er members where people really didn’t want them in the group and they made it. 3. Yurina not making it was a huge deal-breaker for a lot of fandoms as Xiaoting and Yurina came as a package deal for the majority of the fandoms. If ZhangHao or SHanbin didn’t make it here. It would be kind of like that equivalent. I firmly believe that if Yurina made it in Kep1er, the Kep1er fandom would have been much more chill. 4. The majority of the ZB1 fandoms mainly had a lot of overlap in everyone’s “dream lineup” where “atleast 4-6 of everyone’s lineups made it” 5. The wrong Center debuted in Kep1er. The main issue it. Xiaoting should’ve been Center. That’s how it was written. With GP999, she was EVERYONES (majority) centre pick. She didn’t get centre. This season with ZB1. I think since SHanbin and ZhangHao where both treated as the centres and where both the candidates throughout the show, it left people much more satisfied with the ending. And because ZhangHao and SHanbin fandoms are very close and have alot of mutual love for each other, it’s going to be much less sour. Looking back. 6/9 original (episode 3) lineup made it. And that made it roughly okay for me. I like this group. My Original Top9: 1. Cha Woongki❌ 2. SeoWon ❌ 3. Ricky ✅ 4. JiWoong ✅ 5. Haruto / Seunghwan ❌ 6. ZhangHao✅ 7. SHanbin ✅ 8. TaeRae ✅ 9. Gyuvin ✅ As much as my one picks didn’t make it. The rest of my lineup did… it is sad that MY fave didn’t make it but seeing that the other people I liked did. Makes this group very appealing to me Where as in Kep1er this was my lineup: 1. Wen Zhe ❌ 2. Xiaoting ✅ 3. Yurina ❌ 4. Shana❌ 5. Suyeon ❌ 6. Yaning❌ 7. YoungEun ✅ 8. JiA ❌ 9. Dayeon ✅ The difference was there. Comparing my top9’s. I just had more people I liked debut in ZB1. Nothing will ever bear X1 as 11/11 of my faves made it. Rigged but still. I got my DREAM. Lineup.
4 yuehua's 😂😂 just a legendary thing happened in produce series ever 😂😂. Yuehua now start storing money till bep1ler disband. So that they can have the best 5th gen debut. I can say that next Yuehua group is going to dominate k-pop industry just after 2 year 5 months. Like I've and lesserafim.
Honestly wasn't fond of Gyuvin or Yujin at the beginning but throughout the episodes or at least between behind the scenes, I saw why many people voted for them. For example, Gyuvin has played major roles in his team's, like making the dance break for love killa. So while their talents may not have stood out, they are talented.
@@LealaTurkey like he is friend of all the contestants which gives me YENA vibe. Even I saw that all the top 9 first come towards him hugging him like when I saw the Gunwook, Ricky, S hanbin, Matthew and Yujin like taking Gyuvin's hands and dancing even S hanbin and Matthew climbed on him it was too satisfying movement. Even the Gyuvin's cry for Yujin make emotional. That was so cute movement.
i watched boys planet after zb1 debuted and while i agree that gyuvin didn't do all that much on the show (at least what was actually aired) he definitely contributes to the group a lot in terms of personality. he's funny on variety shows, and he has become the team prankster and also the team crybaby, two very important kpop positions lol. also he is already the closest to the most members on the team - he and ricky are bffs and a natural comedic duo (which we didn't really get to see on the show aside from their giant hug during the finale but makes sense since they're both yuehua), yujin is his son, and gunwook is his "neighborhood friend". even if he doesn't get the most lines he plays an important flex role on the team. yujin definitely has some growing to do but everyone loves a good maknae, so, i can't be mad at him. he's very young but at least he's the only member of the team who isn't an adult (internationally--gunwook is still underage in korea but i think he said he was in the same school year as gyuvin) so it could have been worse.
Also, rest in peace to Moonbin and even as a Zhang Hao one-pick, Keita was my number 2. And so I’m happy, but also heartbroken… if we had a 12 member group, we would have had Jay, Park Hanbin, and Keita, because they finished at #10, 11, and 12.
I really congratulate Ricky on his debut. I knew Ricky would debut. It really shines that you voted for Ricky so far. (Laughs) I'm really, really happy that Ricky debuted.
Honestly, Jay could come out as a solo artist with a full-length studio album and I bet anything it would sell like hot cakes. His voice is so special, he could easily find success as a solo, especially now with his new fanbase. I'm just a bit more worried for people like Keita and Park Hanbin - they're already SO talented and have everything EXCEPT for a good management company to back them. I hope they sign with someone really good and find success too.
I don't think you're right. I would LOVE it though. But Jay is not very liked in Korea. So as a solo artist, he won't be popular there. And in the USA, asian artists that are popular/famous are only kpop groups. Solo artists in the western countries are not from the asian community and it's a sad fact. Yunjin from Le Sserafim wanted to become a kpop idol because there is no representation in the media for asian solo artists in the west. So did Jay. So Jay, being asian, will not be as popular as his fans would like him to be as a soloist. Him being a soloist is not going to be a good idea. He needs to be in a popular group so that the popular korean members bring him fans. And then when he established a better korean fanbase, he can go solo.
@@Doyoungismyfave I am well aware but again few artists from the Philippines became well known around the world. Few artists that are asian - outside of kpop groups - had their carreer skyrocket in South America. I'm not saying it's not possible. But from watching many interviews with kpop idols coming from western cultures and they said that they didn't feel represented in music in the western industry, that they felt that being asian was detrimental to their carreer so they became a kpop idol. Because being asian in a kpop group is more important, it is praised and they felt seen, represented. Again, I may be wrong - and I hope I am because I love Jay, he was my one pick since beginning and I will support him no matter what - but from what I've gathered from the standards of the Kpop industry and the lack of asian representation in western music (besides kpop), it will be harder for Jay as a soloist overall. I guess it also depends on what Jay wants. If he's fine by being a soloist not very famous but with a loyal fanbase that can keep him doing what he loves, then I'm fine with that. But if he wanna achieve the same success as Taemin, Jackson, Kai, etc, he has to be in a successful group first. And I personally would LOVE that for him. Become a succesful soloist like them.
The thing about Keita is, as you said, many people assumed Japan would have his back. But in reality Japan votes are a big part of why Gunwook made it in, he has a massive fanbase there. My ideal group had both Keita and Gunwook in it so its a shame Keita dropped but I one-picked Gunwook for the whome show so I can’t be too mad that he made it. I’ll be supporting the group regardless
I think we all had the same reaction when Gunwookie was announced at 5, the second biggest plot twist after Zhan Hao winning 1st place, I'm so happy for the final line up and I wish the best for all the 98 trainees ❤
Finally - thank you both for your lovely podcast this entire season! It was something I looked forward to every week after the episode aired. My apologies for leaving so many comments, I was writing them as I was listening to the episode.
I don't know why people underestimate Matthew's 1st pick power/fanbase. Even more so after his jelly pop fancam was the first one to reach 1 million views and how his fanbase came together to try to give him the killing part. Anyone who was on RUclips that day saw how his fancam and Zhang Hao's (who has a huge fandom) were very close in terms of viewing. It's so much so that when the views stopped, Matthew had 603k views and Zhang Hao had 601k. Matthew's fanbase was clashing with Zhang Hao. Matt's fandom may not be that loud on youtube, but it's super loud on twitter. Matthew was winning all the polls on twitter that were distributing votes for the final. Only the fandoms of matthew, hanbin and zhang hao had the biggest percentages in these polls. By the way, I'm not surprised this is the result of the final line up (1st- ZH, 2nd- Hanbin, 3rd- Matt) because those fandoms were going crazy on twitter!! Another thing that people forget is that Matthew is EXTREMELY popular in JAPAN (his popularity there is very close to Keita!!!) PHILIPPINES (and the philippines was one of the countries that were voting the most along with japan and china) and BRAZIL (his popularity is on the same level as Jiwoong in Brazil and look that Jiwoong is VERY famous in ALL of Latin America) I also think that Matthew would have debuted at 2nd place if MNET hadn't shown Hanbin at 3rd place in the interim ranking. I'm sure who was in first place was Zhang Hao and second was Matthew and MNET obviously wanted Hanbin as center so they showed how the interim ranking was. I'm saying all of this because it's really sad to see other fandoms demeaning the hard work of Matthew's fanbase. Our fandom was desperate thinking he wasn't going to debut and so we made several voting groups and came together to encourage each other!
also since i watched bp after zb1 debuted it's interesting to hear that so many people thought this group would be vocally weak because they're definitely not, and i'm saying this as a singer lol. zhang hao and taerae are obviously powerhouses, gunwook is really proving he can hold his own, ricky has a weaker voice and a very specific style but he sounds lovely on the right part, everyone just forgot matthew sang in his audition i guess, hanbin has a weird raspy voice but he actually uses it well, and jiwoong has a really nice lower range. the two people who struggle the most w/ vocals are definitely gyuvin and yujin but 7/9 people who can sing well is a pretty darn good ratio.
Omg, Leala, I had the saaame reaction about my dear one pick, Gunwook!💜 🙏He was once in top nine at place 9. 😭 i was so happy since I've been voting for him since the very beginning. I'm most upset about Park Hanbin and Keita not making it into the group. But overall happy, coz 6 of my 9 picks made it 🙏👏 I'm gonna miss listening to you guys every week😭. Great job on these videos!
Honestly when they called Yujin's name and I was like ok....... yay... But on a serious note, I'm super happy with the overall results of the group. I am a little gutted for Keita and Jay. But it is what it is.
Yo Beau had some insane calls. He called Jiwoong 8, and Ricky 4. And then towards the end he said "where do Hanbin, Zhang Hao and Yujin fit?" (well in all the 3 spots that are left ;)). AND calling the Zhang Hao P1 placement? You had a good grasp of the popularity of the contestants!
I don’t know what your guys plans are but A2K is supposed to be starting in May. It’s JYP’s American Girl Group competition show that should be pretty exciting.
RIP Moonbin ... Astro was my first Kpop group to stan. Rocky's departure was already hard enough. Then Moonbin passing away just destroyed me. They all deserved so much better ... I hate the name of the group ... ZB1 is so bad. All my top picks didn't make it : Jay, Keita and Haruto. I'm kinda sad about it but I expected that considereing the korean votes ... I think even though the members are good individually, the overall group is lacking. Like ... They are vocally weak ? I mean Taerae and Zhang Hao are good singers. Then there's a few that are decent/average. And then there are a few that have below average singing skills. Same with rap, I feel like Gunwook is the only decent/good rapper since Keita didn't make it. So to me it seems that the group is going to be maily highlighting visuals, dancing and charisma rather than singing or rapping. Like, there's no way that they'll be an amazing singing group like Seventeen or an amazing rapping group like Stray Kids. And I think adding another main vocalist like Jay would have benefit them instead of dancing visual kings. Hopefully they'll train harder and they will all be able to sing well. I also think that they won't really shine in variety shows. They'll do fine, but they won't be as entertaining as I would have hoped. When you look at the lineup. You have Zhang Hao, Sung Hanbin, Ricky and Jiwoong that are very quiet, poised. Like they don't say too much to not appear rude or anything bad. They act like "Mr. Perfect" and that's ok, it's not a critique. Then you have people like Park Gunwook, Han Yujin and Kim Gyuvin that ... "act cool" or "tough". You know, they try to appear sexy and or mysterious and mature. Jiwoong is kinda like that too. So in the end, you have cuties like Matthew and Taerae but they're not extroverts. The only goofy one that should be ok in variety show is Gyuvin. This is a "I act too serious" group to me. Seventeen is my favorite group because they are vocal kings and dancing kings. But also they're very funny and chaotic in variety shows. So many different personnalities that interact and clash with each other, it's fun. This ZB1 group is not like that AT ALL. They're way too serious for my taste ... I will listen to their music and albums anyway and support them. But not to the point of watching interviews and variety shows.
I find it quite ironic to see this comment 6 months after Boys Planet ended. We were so wrong about many things. Their variety shows are chaotic as ever, Ricky is actually one of the goofiest members. Him and Gyuvin are such a fun duo! Jiwoong is so random sometimes but in a funny way. Gunwook is just a cutie, Matthew also a cutie with no filter and Hao is the only introvert but can he loud when he wants to be! 😂
@@_harley_1288 I absolutely agree ! I'm glad I was very wrong. And to add to this, they improved so much in a very short period of time ! They're funny and entertaining to the point where I don't know who is my bias anymore haha
I feel so called out. I'm afraid to be a stereotype but I'm actually not gonna stan the group. No fault to the boys, but I am genuinely pissed Mnet manipulated the interim rankings and basically erased Jay in the last few episodes. He was so close to debuting, he was literally p10, he just needed a small push. Ugh, oh well, I wish the best to the boys but this left a sour taste in my mouth. At least Jay seems to be taking it well, he posted a lot on different social media. He's such an amazing person and I wish him all the success.
Ricky and Mathew were good surprise (for G group)especially Mathew with all the negative attention he was getting at the end. And I Can’t believe that the final group has four trainees from the same company (Yuehua Entertainment)
kpop band names are always cringe but survival show group names have an especially bad track record so i honestly think zb1 could have been much worse lol
The only one I’m “against” being here is Yujin. Not because I don’t like him, he’s just so young and already has some very creepy fans. I would have preferred Gunwook as the maknae as even though hes so young, he’s not a recent middle school graduate and he doesn’t have creepy sasaengs lining up outside schools to shove a camera in his face (like Yujin does). I just hope the company will take care of him.
There won't be any rigging allegations for Zhang Hao because those allegations came from his fandom. I Love Zhang Hao but his fandom became so toxic as the show went on. I hope they'll calm down now that he deservingly got P01
@@vedantkakade7358 What? Are you? Talking about????? All the Jay fans, even the ones on twitter where things were horrible for them, tried desperately to be left alone bc of the constant harassment of other Boys Planet fans? Even when they got angry and disappointed when Jay got sub vocal6 they reeled it in to avoid a fanwar.
I like him too but the truth needed to be told, mnet even showed his interim rank went down to a panic vote, and K-shows never treated foreign trainees like how they favored K-trainees.
I’m still absolutely dissatisfied with this lineup… Jay, Keita, and Park Hanbin were the best vocalist - rapper - and dancer left in this show, and we let them down for a bunch of semi talented visuals
I heart still ache more for keita and hanbin than jay even though I came for jay in bp for me jay is more suitable as soloist idk it feel like he would be more recognisable if he would be in solo also keita was in my top 9 but my one pick was someone else and tbh I actually like the line everyone is deserving even I have little concern about Yujin at first for him being way to young but I just gonna support them all

It’s ok. No obligation to follow them if you don’t want to. I understand. Let’s look forward to what Jay does next!
I hope they'll calm down now that he deservingly got P01
the rigging allegations were from kfans of most trainees, please don’t spread lies
Huh? Literally where did you get that from
The most toxic fandom was of Jay . Like they literally attacked on other fandoms like Gyuvin fandom, S hanbin fandom, Yujin fandom.
@@vedantkakade7358 this
@@vedantkakade7358 What?
“Nothing can be worse than Kep1er” 🤭👀
MNET proved us wrong.
What happened to Handbin... I'm dissapointed.. I know over all his has higher points
Understand but let's support them all. They too are talented too. So it's okay. Hope keita and Jay will audition for hype boy hybe's upcoming project.
“semi talented” lying our ur ass
What an absolutely rude thing to say. All of the top 18 are extremely talented and deserving
