A welded up differential is called a "Lincoln Locker" named after the red welding machine. 🙂

Yep! That would be the correct answer! That big red welding machine is the old Lincoln AC-225 stick welder, also known as "The old Tombstone" welder. Thanks for taking the time to answer the trivia question!

'04 WJ threw a piston skirt and, after 3 JEEPS, I'm DONE and on to a more reliable vehicle family: Toyota. You Jeepers just keep on Jeepin'!!

I am a big Toyota fan as well!! The era of the 22R engines ... those trucks are a beast!! Stack transfer cases and you have a rig that will climb walls!! I'm not a fan of any V6 Jeep engines, they have so many design flaws in my opinion. Now, the straight 6 Jeep engines .. I have beat those engines hard and they just keep going!! Have fun with your Toyota, I'd buy one as well if I come across one for the right price. I'd love to have a Samurai as well. I need therapy .. I've got a off-road rig addiction. :-)

I have never seen a Detroit locker come in a 14 bolt, I have had 3x Gov lockers and about a dozen open over the years of flipping trucks and building off road rigs. Orb of traction.

I've never found one in the junkyard yet. I've seen one in a 76 1-ton SRW, I was told that it was in there from the factory. From what information I've found, Detroits were only available from early to late 70's 14 bolts. After that it was open diffs and Gov lockers.

Very well could be. An open diff doesn't make any sounds. Only way to know for sure it to jack up the rear axle and do the test I showed in the video..
