This made me look at Dan in a way different light, I really do wish him all the best in the future. Great interview and insight for some of the behind-the-scenes stuff!
I never truly get tired of Runescape. Even WoW doesn't hold a candle to it for me and I have memories of both. I don't know why that is. I think Runescape has something deeply calming and satisfying. I hope OSRS is around for the next 10 years. I see the peak of OSRS as right now, and maybe in 2-3 years we will see a divisive update, something like a new skill.
I absolutely love this. It brings back the feeling I had when OS was first released. I love what is being done with the game, but at least with the live streams, I feel like a lot of the casualness has been lost. It's gotten very formal and even when there is lighthearted conversation it feels very restrained. I miss the "get good at the game" feel of the old streams.
Shauny you have out done yourself. You were always the highlight of every rs3 livestream, and now your giving us so much more. Please if you need anything from the community don't be afraid to ask! We are behind you 100%

Thank you so much shauny for doing all your interviews, the only thing players know about these mods are second-hand knowledge and rumors that spread across reddit which dehumanizes them. These interviews really shows them as people who have passions and struggles and it really puts things into perspective.
Just finished this, gonna watch the Mod Matt K one soon. Thank you for doing these. Good bad or ugly, it's nice to know what we as players are investing our time and passion into. While I have faith in the OS dev team, it's good to know what the foundation has been built on and what the general perception of the game is from a (past, present, future) business perspective. I truly believe the current management has the games best interest at heart, but it's nice to know the roots and how it got to where it is. Keep it up, only those with first hand experience can really give good insight. Best 3 1/2 hours I've wasted in a while, because it keeps the game human, something that's been lacking for me over the last couple years. I hope Ash can join you, that would be absolutely wonderful.
I thoroughly enjoyed this & your interview with Matt. Would love to see more in the future, and definitely Ash if that works out. Always love hearing from ash as he is so passionate and knowledgeable.

And ever since the Inferno, I knew he was one of the best Jmods on the team. I didnt know he was Thee Best addition to the team. But it makes sense. Ive been liking this new Mod Husky lately, as well. He seems to be next up on the top list
Such a shame these people didn't have control over runescape 3, they have such passion, and know the correct direction to take the game that keeps the spirit of it intact.
It's disappointing Dan didn't want to talk about specifics of what happened. Not because we "deserve" to know or anything like that, but my (and probably a lot of players) views on the legacy of Mod Reach will also be in doubt now. "Serious misuse of moderator privileges", is so incredibly (and intentionally) vague, that it could range from intentionally including and abusing bugs for personal gain, to using his employee pass to get in after hours and take a shit on Mat's desk. Without knowing, whether we listen to rumours or try to ignore and dismiss them, we can't completely block out the idea of imagining a possible scenario where his actions hurt the game or the players. That's unfortunate if it's not the case because it would mar our overall outlook on both him and Jagex unnecessarily.
Good to see you actively working on the format. Very excited for what´s to come. I wonder/hope you´ll make inroads into other kinds of content sometime, you´ve a lot to offer I imagine.
Might be a bit late to comment, but I would really like to see Jacmob on this 'podcast/interview'. Guy went from hacking people, making the best bot, working for Jagex, and then make a top tier client for old school.
Hey Shauny, I'm hoping you can help me out here. I'm trying to find the timestamp in either this interview w/ Reach or another OSRS interview of yours -- at one point, one of your guests mentions that Kraken's damage output is bugged, but was never fixed, for fear of how players would react to the "buff" to Kraken's damage output. Do you remember where that is? Thanks! Update: Found it. 2:41:30
@@staxondeck7352 sounds like he owed people money and decided to try and cause some sort of dupe to rwt to pay it off. hence the comments that he was in a bad place and did what he felt he had to do to get out of a bad situation
At 3:04:00-3:04:25, he drops the biggest hint imo. Previously he spoke about being under-valued and not recieving anything compared to the large salary bonuses that junior MTX devs in RS3 got. In the 25s im talking about, he says that hes not dumb enough to rely on RNG drops. They, like any democratic system, give the users a sense of ownership over their reality that they don't get by being strictly ruled over. Feedback: Try to make sure that the microphone output is more clear/professional sounding (both you and your guest(s)). I know it's kinda hard, especially with guests as not everybody has the means to have something of quality. Even in this video, Dan said he had to go buy a webcam. In this specific video, there is a humming/buzzing noise, almost like a fan in the background. The keyboard presses are loud and some of the computer dings were loud. Not sure how you could solve this... but I am sure that Google has some resources, as I know that others have solved this issue. Also, we understand that you do this in your free time and sometimes life comes up... but the whole Facebook dinging and the keyboard clickty clack noises are detracting from the audio quality. I haven't caught these live, so I can't really comment on the quality of webcams/background/text/ect but on RUclips, it could be upgraded a bit but for most people like me, they are just here to listen to it, almost like a podcast. Normally I don't care much about developers/ex-developers but I give these a listen while playing or/and at work. EDIT: As the video progressed, it got way better in the audio department. I don't believe that he was fired for refusing anything. I think that was the excuse they use, and they already had the advantage of the community being accustomed to how vague their so-called explanations are. No, I think they were just frustrated because he was trying to do something they didn't want, and he didn't want some of the things that they did.
What happened to those other Zeah areas anyway? If I remember correctly the current Zeah is only a portion of what was planned like the colosseum type area etc. Of course Zeah was and still is a bit of a mess with way too much empty space but still
i particularly think the way he introduced an invincibility bug to corp and rwt'ed the gold to buy an audi was great for the community and game! a true figure to look up to as a developer.
What mic is Dan using, you might ask? He's not, he's literally just screaming out the window across london getting picked up by Shauny's mic. You can tell because Shauny's keyboard is both significantly louder and clearer than Dan.
Nothing nasty here, but it is so hard to enjoy the interview when you are typing away and clicking and looking distracted while the person you're interviewing is talking. I know you are interested in what he has to say but it looks mega rude lol
Nice guy, shame he isn't with Jagex anymore. Was one of my favorite devs to see on the couch every week. Really just wish he would've said what he did or at least gave somewhat of a hint as to what it was. As someone who's been playing since roughly 2003 I find it incredibly interesting to hear from employees in this raw format.
@@dannyway1111 not necessarily. Reach could've been smart about it. Unfortunately I can't recall properly and dont care enough to dig up the thread, but it was made by the group of bug abusers/rwters that dealt with him. Of course he won't admit anything here...
What I'm looking at is actually a copy of my webcam on the right monitor, additionally I was trying to figure out my audio issues through the stream which seemed like they got better as it went on!
@@WrestlingVideosWWF you are right, i made the comment before you switched over to the obs audio thingy. Much better after that. Love the interviews very interesting people!
So Reach changed something in the game based off what he wanted and they fired him for it. If there was no malicious intent then why can't he just say what he did....
I think also part of the reason devs would get upset about showing off how well osrs did compared to rs3 is maybe some of them wanted to work on osrs because they realized they were killing rs3 with mtx and other updates they didnt agree with and they just never got the opportunity to work on the oldschool team. I know nothing about jagex just an idea.
Im not fully sure either, but as someone who played/still plays both games it always feels like just a one sided attack from osrs. A significant portion of players play osrs because they don't like rs3 for whatever reason, and it's like they finally got given a place to enjoy with osrs being released, but for some reason they used it as an excuse to be loud and vocal about everything they dislike about rs3 when they used to play, and attack rs3 out of frustration with every single update they didn't like in the past, whereas rs3 players are sat there trying to enjoy the game and getting hate thrown at them for no apparent reason. I know that's mainly about the playerbase but Jmods do it too, like it's so common for osrs devs to be so toxic and say stuff like "don't want to end up like rs3 did" on stream when talking about potential updates etc. And it's really died down now as people are more accepting and being a lot more friendly and switching between games due to the content drought we've being going through the last year, but still exists in sort of that one sided attack mentality that osrs players have of "look we get more players which validates all the hate and proves rs3 is trash so screw you"
Dungeoneering is great... as a minigame. I just don't understand why they made it a skill. That still baffles me. It's objectively more of a minigame than a skill. And the idea that Dungeoneering is better than Invention... how? Invention offers benefits to all other skills including combat, while Dungeoneering offers next to nothing. The resource dungeons are great but don't apply to all skills. Can't remember the last time i used one. Invention feels like "no matter what i do, Invention can make it better". Meanwhile Dungeoneering feels like you could leave it at level 1, totally ignore it and not even notice.
Talking about risk in the wilderness... how about just simple... if you die in the wilderness you lose everything you are carrying. Your armour, weapons and inventory. No protect items. Just go in at your own risk.
Mate, pay attention to the person you're interviewing or at least find a way to mute your keyboard noises. This guy has a story and idgaf about your exp
2:45:23 *Interesting view Shauny is trying to push here. Trying to connect one form (entitlement over demands to know confidential information) with another more reasonable expectation (claiming that, as customers, they do in fact pay their salaries indirectly through the increase/decrease of sales in Jagex's products correlating with their salaries and/or hiring/letting go of new/current employees) in an attempt to change his audience's mindset over what to expect.* Sneaky move there Shauny, knowing you are as revered as M(G)od Ash of OSRS, however an unwise move of being on the wrong side of history.
Ultimately, if the community is complaining its for a reason, if we don't like updates you can't force it on us, thats how you get rs3...stupid to think otherwise.

What happened to those other Zeah areas anyway? If I remember correctly the current Zeah is only a portion of what was planned like the colosseum type area etc.
Of course Zeah was and still is a bit of a mess with way too much empty space but still
Reach was such a good mod.
i particularly think the way he introduced an invincibility bug to corp and rwt'ed the gold to buy an audi was great for the community and game! a true figure to look up to as a developer.
He was talking about kraken doing no damage? Is that a thing?
What mic is Dan using, you might ask? He's not, he's literally just screaming out the window across london getting picked up by Shauny's mic. You can tell because Shauny's keyboard is both significantly louder and clearer than Dan.
Shauny, please don’t type close to the mic, the sound is annoying.
I "think" as the stream went on the audio got better, but duly noted!
I agree, it did get better. Thanks for holding these interviews. I like hearing the personal insights from different J-mods!
There is/was an incredibly detailed post offsite of what reach did. Was basically just boatloads of selling gold from what I remember.
@@VVVvl230 If that was the case legal action would have been taken. He even says his actions were in no way malicious.
@@dannyway1111 not necessarily. Reach could've been smart about it. Unfortunately I can't recall properly and dont care enough to dig up the thread, but it was made by the group of bug abusers/rwters that dealt with him. Of course he won't admit anything here...
Good show!
Heh I thought Dragon full helm dropped cause of a bot dump, made a fair bit of money that day flipping them
i find it disturbing he's not paying full attention to his guests and just types en mouseclicks trough him talking.
43:00 I fucking knew they never banned people for botting back then..
Is this the mod who created kraken and was upset cause it was bugged and jagex didn’t let him fix it?
What a fucking obnoxious keyboard.
This is fucking unwatchable.
So Reach changed something in the game based off what he wanted and they fired him for it. If there was no malicious intent then why can't he just say what he did....
#TeamQueen
What is it with Jmods and owning cats
What did reach do to be fired?
Watching this has put me off Jagex and RuneScape ool
Does Dan have Twitter? I want to ask him a question :)
I'm sorry but the background noise is extremely unpleasant. You can't let that be a regular occurrence.
Mod Reach getting close to sounding like an EoC developer at 3:21:00 or so, saying that radical change is needed for the game to grow.
Get Chris L on this!
oh reach loves dungeoneering woo
Did Reach dupe and rwt?
Yups
@@dragonflyer023 Did he admit it?
2:19:14 Shauny lol
Talking about risk in the wilderness... how about just simple... if you die in the wilderness you lose everything you are carrying. Your armour, weapons and inventory. No protect items. Just go in at your own risk.
3h nice
Disliked purely for how wildy bosses are coded, sorry Reach.
Mate, pay attention to the person you're interviewing or at least find a way to mute your keyboard noises. This guy has a story and idgaf about your exp
2:45:23 *Interesting view Shauny is trying to push here. Trying to connect one form (entitlement over demands to know confidential information) with another more reasonable expectation (claiming that, as customers, they do in fact pay their salaries indirectly through the increase/decrease of sales in Jagex's products correlating with their salaries and/or hiring/letting go of new/current employees) in an attempt to change his audience's mindset over what to expect.*
Sneaky move there Shauny, knowing you are as revered as M(G)od Ash of OSRS, however an unwise move of being on the wrong side of history.
Shut up please.
The keyboard strokes and clicks made me stop watching after like 20 minutes, please fix this because it makes the video just not even worth watching.
Ultimately, if the community is complaining its for a reason, if we don't like updates you can't force it on us, thats how you get rs3...stupid to think otherwise.
Yep
Was really looking forward to this episode but the wife clicking like a crack-head through the entire thing ruined it. Biggest no-no of podcasting! 🤦🏻♂️
