    • @GGigabiteM
      @GGigabiteM 14 дней назад +1

      @@ndebele100 Cheaper, yes. More effective? It'd need to be tested.
      This massive radiator looks like it has more in common with an A/C condenser than an automotive engine radiator. Since the sides of this radiator weren't shown, I can't be 100% sure, but it looks like the coolant flow is a single path that winds through every channel on the radiator before exiting the cool side. I'd say this setup is highly likely since the black channels seem to be hollow and allow cables to go through. There's probably copper C coils under there to redirect the flow back into the radiator, which is common on refrigerant systems.
      Automotive radiators generally have a reservoir on the top and bottom of the fin channels that connect them all in parallel. This is for several reasons. First, you need high coolant flow from the enormous amount of waste heat being generated. Second, you want to be able to maintain an equilibrium temperature using a thermostat, not get the coolant as cold as possible.
      The parallel channel operating nature of the automotive radiator makes it less efficient vs a serial channel of an A/C style condenser radiator, since the fluid can bypass large portions of the fin surface versus having to go through the entire radiator several times before it exits.
      Though, since automotive radiators are designed to remove dozens of kilowatts of waste heat, I don't think there's going to be much difference with a grossly underrated load like a CPU that only pulls hundreds of watts.

    What this thing needs is to be connected to an air duct in the wall. In summer, fans could be set to push air directly out of the house, with an option to easily reverse the flow during winter.

    • @4Core100
      @4Core100 19 дней назад +28

    • @TheStigma
      @TheStigma 19 дней назад +9

      It would be far easier and more efficient to run the water through the wall to the radiator outside. You only need some small holes that could be patched at a later point, or even just capped/plugged together with some insulation if not in use. All you need for that is mainly just sufficient pump pressure, which you can take care of with either a bigger pumpe - or serial standard pumps.
      Ducting tends to be very inefficient and have a lot of resistance - doubly so if you need to reduce this much flow into a more normal duct size.

    • @KillFrenzy96
      @KillFrenzy96 19 дней назад +11

      It would be far more effective to place the entire radiator inside/outside.
      When you blow air out of the house (in summer), it creates negative pressure which would cause hot air from outside to be sucked into the house from elsewhere. If you place the entire radiator outside, you will avoid creating this negative pressure.
      For winter, you may as well keep the entire radiator inside the house. It's more efficient to heat up the already warmer air inside your house, compared to heating up the cold air from outside. Additionally, blowing air into the house creates positive pressure, which will push warm air out of the house.

    • @hugevibez
      @hugevibez 19 дней назад

      @@KillFrenzy96 Yeah that's how they do watercooling or cooling in general at datacenters, precisely to keep the inside air cool. For watercooling you have 3 loops, one is in the rack going to a heat exchanger to the second loop (aka facility water, which is also used to transfer heat from radiators behind aircooled servers) going to another heat exchanger to a third loop going to a finstack outside of the facility. Usually the heat exchange, and the volume of water inside the loop, is enough to cool the servers and often the finstack is barely used outside of peak load scenarios. With a datacenter you have to look at the entire building as if it's one PC, if you have so many servers just moving ambient air around you really don't have the efficiency needed to properly cool them and you will end up with runoff heat, heating up the entire facility. When you are starting to look at radiator's like this, you are definitely dealing with a power usage high enough to make a room unbearably warm (and thus less efficient or maybe even insufficient at cooling), so this same concept still applies.

Then again, we do know there definitely is a market for insane stuff like this. Have to admit that if I were to build a new watercooled PC, I'd probably go for this (well, the sane one, ie. 2x 200mm fan version, the bigger one would probably need multiple PCs in the same loop to be needed)

    iCue devices do have a memory mode that they always default to when iCue isn't running. There's a toggle in the iCue settings somewhere. Love the new MORA. I've contemplated getting something like this since I'd built my first watercooled system back in 2008. Unfortunately, with the cost of components being what it is, I could never quite stretch my budget to get one. It's going to be one of the first things I buy when I win the lottery though ;) Anyway, it looks awesome, can't wait to see how it turns out once fully assembled. Looking forward to that video.

    I've never really understood the MO-RA, it's just bruteforcing an inefficient radiator design, condensers are only built like that because non-round tubes would blow out under high pressure, but round tubes have poor surface area to volume ratio and are more restrictive to airflow, hence why every low pressure automotive radiator and heater core uses flat channels. What size properly made radiator would provide similar performance to a MORA 600?

      it's the cool factor but it's more so about water volume and less about efficiency. either way the mora exists for the same reason intel releases KS processors, or amd releasing X processors even though all of them are unlocked, etc, etc. can you use something cheaper? yes, does everyone want to do that? no.

    Corsair iCUE is super buggy, especially when it has to interact with other RGB software, like MysticLight. I have to restart iCUE on every boot and wake up, and then re-apply the settings for my RAM sticks in MysticLight, in order get it all working. If I don't do that, the RAM is either barely glowing (much dimmer than the minimum 10% setting, that I use), or - get this - only one half of the sticks is lit up (just the upper half is lit on both sticks, for example). Everything is updated to the latest version. It's just atrocious.

    I've been using Mora radiator for many years (3x3 12cm fans). I have it attached to a side wall of my PC with pump inside PC case. I like your solution of having pumps directly attached to the radiator however, with very low RPM fans, pumps are the noisiest part of the cooling so having it inside PC case is damping sounds quite significantly making the overall solution quieter.

  • @someusername121
    @someusername121 19 дней назад +12

    So this is one of those "been there done that" things with me. 16 fans is loud no matter how you slow them down. Also, you're paying a lot of money for some bent sheet metal. If you want to make something like this and save a lot of money: "air to water heat exchanger for hvac" is the keywords. Copper tubes, aluminum fins, etc it's meant for commercial buildings where you use water to change air temperature. Watercool is just using one of those as their core and then putting some sheet metal framing around it and g1/4 ports. There's also zero chance you actually need 3 pumps in any sort of application, you can run a whole house loop on one of those. Anyways I moved on from this sort of thing and it's only my backup cooling if for some reason my tap water cooling needs to go down for maintenance. That's been running 24/7 for about 3 years now.

    Edit:
    Corsair iCue issues, pretty typical.
    Here is an idea about the corsair iCue problem for controlling it. The power cable to the iCue hub is simply 6 pin pcie cable to 6pin single row micro-fit connector - you can quite easily make custom one, the data usb 2.0 in one side and micro usb on the other, while making custom cable with micro USB might not be easy (but it's still possible), maybe just create your own custom internal USB 2.0 extension cable. All you need are wires crimps, crimper and connectors and maybe sleeves/heatshrinks. All of those are available in MDPC-X maybe not the microfit 6 pin single row but you can get them from some place else.

The most 'heavy duty' plastic drywall anchor I've seen goes up to about 75lbs. Some metal drywall anchors claim up to 100lbs.
