Her voice is so strong! I love how easily she's made flipping from such pretty light notes to beautiful growls sound. It really shows how well she's mastered her intrument. The energy is so fun! Love this
This chick is no where near as talented as Lea DeLaria. It's like having to eat a cardboard- tasting tv dinner and watching the person next to you tear into a juicy $80 steak dinner. There is no substance or flavor.
@silvana - they both have different takes on the character. You can’t compare the two - I prefer Alysha in the role - she was brilliant when I saw the Production. Both are talented though and brought great takes on the role. But what was the point of your post but to spread negative energy when it’s not needed? Do better - if you have nothing nice to say then why say anything at all?
Amen. I saw both productions -- and in fact both versions of the earlier, Goerge C. Wolfe-directed one, first in Central Park and then on Broadway, between which incarnations they actually changed choreographers (!) -- and this more recent production got its priorities absolutely right. All of the actors were a delight to see and hear, with Tony Yazbeck a standout for his heartfelt Gabey and Alysha for her delightful re-invention of a role associated so closely with predecessors such as the great Nancy Walker and Tyne Daly (in a London concert staging). The online clips give some idea of how great it was -- especially in the Act II pas de deux for Gabey and Ivy -- but experiencing it in the theater was something else! Please remember too that they were performing in a very large theater (the American Airlines?), and the staging and performances were scaled to match the size of the venue, not video close-ups. One of my fondest Broadway memories. @@potroastpig
