i reacted the exact same way. what makes this song even more heartbreaking is the backstory. his dad bought him and his brother's a piano when they were young to get them out of watching the tv. he was the youngest and found his soul in it. 20 years later as his mum has cancer and is on her deathbed he used to go to his mums home and play for her on that same piano he found his voice everyday when looking after her.
the entire album "process" is just beautiful. its him navigating the warzone of his consciousness scattered with anxiety attacks, panic and pain with his mother's soul pushing him onwards guiding him to redemption and solace. he finds it in the 40minutes of the albums runtime.
this album saved me cause it found me in a very tough spot in my life. i cant play sampha anymore around others because when I do I just fixate on his voice and nothing else matters at that moment more than his voice cracking at the breaking point with sorrow does.
sorry about the essay, this is an album that means a lot to me and its lovely seeing you get to react to and give this man his flowers. i really hope you do find the chance to give process a listen.
