Thank you Seth and the entire team for your such strong support of women's rights. It's absolutely barbaric and terrifying what women are facing and many are already dealing with.
There's no world in which a law created in an unincorporated territory before it joined the Union can be said to be the current law of the land in Arizona.
Thank you for acknowledging how ludicrous it is to expect a woman to take a bus out of state to get medical care. My child passed when I was 6 months pregnant, and I credit my ability of going on to have two healthy children to the team of doctors who performed my D&E (abortion). I might have become infertile or died had I been forced to take a trip cross country for care.
I’m sorry for you and your family’s loss. It’s amazing how much men can be so blasé about how much a woman’s body and her mental state is harmed by a pregnancy that doesn’t result in a healthy baby at the end of the term. And abortions should be made part of law in every country! Women are the only people who should be able to make decisions about their own bodies in conjunction with their chosen doctor or other healthcare professionals.
I’m sorry you went through such a loss. I keep telling people the more children I have, the more pro choice I am. I desperately wanted all my children, but the complications I had with the last 2 made it a possibility I would’ve had to have an abortion. I could never take the right away from a woman, whether the pregnancy was wanted or not. I’m glad you had two more children and I wish you well. Happy early Mother’s Day 🤗
From Australia I’m horrified how in a first world country (especially one always talking about ‘freedom’) women are still struggling against archaic laws and substandard healthcare. It irritates me in that one interview that Trump says the pro-life crowd had no rights? What? They had the right not to have an abortion. What you and they wanted was the right to tell OTHER WOMEN and men how they should handle their personal business and now have legal power to send them to prison if they do something you oppose. This is a very strange notion of civil rights.

The argument that "it's not the worst thing to travel to another state to get an abortion" is null and void when you consider that the same states that are looking to ban abortions are also looking to punish women who do travel out of state to get that abortion, with some of them wanting to also offer bounties to those who inform on those women.
We can hope these efforts will fail in the courts. It's probably ten steps too far, even for the extreme jurists we're reckoning with. To make it legal to punish travelers the states in question would have to stop honoring the laws of other states, and once that happens we're not really a country anymore.
Well, Texas got around that pesky constitutional right of free movement by legislating the right to civilly sue anyone who facilitates the pregnant person's travel to get an abortion.
Exactly. Republicans have long claimed they stand for people's right to privacy and freedom from government interference, and then they decide to interfere in everyone's lives. No thank you.
Thank you Seth Meyers!! To hear my own righteous indignation reflected in your voice was deeply satisfying tonight. I'm so thoroughly disgusted with Roe v Wade being overturned. Your ability to provide a mildly humorous delivery of such a vile subject without blurring the lines is amazing!
You should read the little boys' commentary on the Arizona Law youtube. I know it's just little boys pretending to be men, but if ANY of them are actually men, women really need to demand vasectomies of ALL men at 18 - they are reversible, if they want children
Aye, thank you for getting angry, Seth. People need to get angry so they can start getting active in politics. It's the only thing that will save the US.
However, I have to say here, as I've said elsewhere, that an important number of American women support Trump completely. It is women voting against the rights of other women and the only explanation, to me, it that they think THEY will still be able to get their abortions and this only affects people who don't look like them. They will be in for a rude awakening when the next law prohibits them to go outside without the company of a man or, God forbid, wear trousers.
He has taken over the GOP. He posted a tweet today about FISA and all his loyalists voted against the party and joined the democrats. I don't think he cares about FISA, he just did that cos he can, it's all a power trip for him. Playing with people's lives.
Don't worry to much. Half of people said they wouldn't vote for him if he's convicted of a felony. They have enough evidence to nail him to wall ten times over. He's going to lose this election.
In the off chance you are actually looking for an answer to the question, I'll answer it. Conservatives need someone to tell them what to do, and they also need someone they can tell what to do. Everyone they meet falls into one of those two categories. If one of those categories is empty, they will literally make up imaginary people to fill the roll. Therefore, no one is fooled by the statement, it's simply a way to enforce this view they have that everyone has to be better or worse than they are.
"State's rights!" and "think of the children!" are the two biggest red flags that someone's lying to you and hoping you'll get too emotional to notice. The right wing's anti-women rhetoric contains both.
I refuse to give him that much of my attention or regard to feed his ego. In my estimation he's not worthy of being my nemesis. I do however look forward with great joy to the day when we no longer have to hear about him or his ridiculous misuse of our country's systems. He'll look interesting in another shade of orange.

As a pregnant woman in WI, Arizona is setting a dangerous precedent for my state. Our state Supreme Court is also going to be ruling on an outdated anti-abortion law from 1894, and could easily use the Arizona ruling to do the same here in WI. Right now, elective abortions are available in WI until week 22. I am currently 19 weeks along. After week 22, I would have to be literally dying to receive a medically necessary abortion. This is information given to me by my obgyn. I wanted more children after this but will be opting for surgical sterilization instead. It's simply too dangerous to be pregnant in the current political climate.
I'm so sorry. It's a terrible choice to have to make. Something to consider, vasectomies are almost always reversible. Plus, if you aren't having it done immediately, the politics of this could be very different after the election. Don't believe the slanted view of the media. Even adamant Republican women are against these bans.

I am convinced you have the support of almost all american women and many men. In addition, you have moral support of women and men all over the globe. I am one of them. Wish I could do more. 🇳🇱🚩
Trump thought he could moderate his position and seem less extreme. Only to IMMEDIATELY have to retract the statement when it backfired on him. What an idiot.
Evidently the toupee is his body his choice. The man should be forced to wear old timey white powder wigs if women are subject to civil war laws before Arizona was even a state
You asked a reasonable question about states' rights, but you're asking fundamentally, "How insane is Trump." Former officials wll say he's mad as a meat-axe, and he'll do anything to take the levers of government. Think Putin. Hard to ask him a reasonable question, I imagine. He enjoys killing people. So, state government is its own thing. The idea was formulated long before Americans could fly to their destinations. It's archaic.
Mark Simone Saying "They can just buy a bus ticket" reeeeeeally goes to show that he thinks taking away reproductive choice is something that will only affect poor people, and therefore, he doesn't care.
Michael Simone has no idea about reproductive care or what physical condition a woman might be in that needs an abortion; possibly bleeding or with high blood pressure. Right! Just get on a bus for 18 hours 🤯, no big deal! What a FAH! 😡
Imagine having to take a bus for 100’s of miles while in pain, or possibly even dying with a nonviable pregnancy. Only a man would say it’s no big deal.
Too true, alas Plus that the most draconian interpretation of this law would make the bus driver complicit in the abortion. And this guy's very implicit bias telling us that women looking for an abortion would need to take a bus (seeing how using public transport is viewed in the US).
"Only a man would say it's no big deal"??? As a man, I don't recall ever thinking anything of the sort.. Keep your eyes on the prize, Karen. Turning this into a battle of the sexes, isn't going to help solve anything... P.S. Wonder how many conservative women, voted for Trump, last time around?

You say it’s no battle of the sexes yet funny how it’s virtually only men who are inflicting these draconian measures on to women..don’t you think?
@@codymoe4986you’re taking this awfully personally for some reason, but the fact of the matter is, men are spouting opinions and making decisions on things they will never have to experience. It is a battle of the sexes, because men are trying to control women and we are fighting for our right to bodily autonomy. It’s that’s simple.
I have learned something very simple and clear about bodily autonomy in this debate: we do not ever oblige men to give their body to sustain another life (if a kid needs a kidney no one is EVER obligated to give theirs, even if it means the kid might die and the life of the organ doner might not even be compromised) No one ever legally obligated a man to stay hooked up to a machine to help his kid stay alive. We ONLY behave this way with pregnant women, obligating them to NOT have the choice to decide what to do with their bodies. It made the whole debate so much more simple for me. Let all people choose what to do with their own bodies!
Oh, it gets even worse. You can’t even take an organ from a _corpse_ if that person (while living) never agreed to organ donation. Pregnant people in this country have fewer rights, less bodily autonomy, *THAN CORPSES* - how’s that for blood-boiling?
The GOP only cares about fetuses. Once a fetus is born, the child is on its own! GOP does not care about children's (or mothers') health, their education, their safety, their ability to clothe, house, and feed themselves and their families. The only protected people in America and rich white men. And rich white men need a lot of uneducated and unhealthy people to work in their factories and homes. Democrats aren't perfect, but they care about others less fortunate than themselves.
Nor do we legally require men to simply manage their own sperm. But we legally require women, & even girls, to risk their health, lives, & economic survival to manage men’s sperm for them.
Perhaps the best segment I have seen Seth, or anyone, do on Trump and his panhandling for votes over one of the most important issues of our time. Bravo!
The irony of anti-choice people wanting THEIR choice to be the law. "People shouldn't be allowed to choose. I choose to not be allowed to choose and MY CHOICE "to not be allowed to choose" should be forced on everyone". It's equivalent to people voting to remove the right to vote.

I live in Louisiana and have done for over 7 decades. We are seeing not only families leaving, but tons of physicians as well. Whole businesses are shutting down here because of our maga governor and state legislature. We will not have a chance for the people to vote on whether or not to make abortion legal in this state because the government here has decided for us all. The new governor is also working with the state legislature to take over state colleges and universities and not allowing them to run independently academically. Furthermore, they are pushing school vouchers to the point of destroying all public schools in the state which already are suffering from lack of adequate funding. Our state is at the bottom of every metric already and getting worse by the day. Maga Republicans are destroyers and must be stopped wherever possible.
Republicans in general, they didn't only become anti-education when Trump showed up, they've always been this way. Look at Brownback's Kansas and how he fucked over their education system, and he wasn't a "maga". Red states have been in a competition to unseat Mississippi for the title of "worst at everything" for decades now.
This is why leaving a law like this one to the states is the easiest way to find ourselves on a continent divided btwn putin and the Americans. Hyperbole? Quick! Ask yourself if our situation could be any worse than right now? The answer is yes, they will make it so if you let them.

Would I have had to wait for it to rupture? Insane!
YEP, WE’VE BEEN SEEING IT HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN IN TEXAS-bravo for speaking on this EXTREMELY problematic aspect of the anti-abortion movement👏👏. So much unnecessary trauma being forced upon people. I’m so sorry to hear you had to go through an ectopic pregnancy….what’s crazy is that I genuinely don’t think any of these old white men making these decisions (seemingly pretty lightly…but what can we expect when they nor their partners face any consequences) have any clue HOW OFTEN women face severe issues during pregnancy that require emergency surgery-which is TECHNICALLY considered an abortion but gahhhhhhhhh I think we’re equally angry. I’m also an empath (sounds so hokey lolz, but 3% of the pop. is), so I get major feels when I read about/see etc people suffering. Especially when it’s so unnecessary are preventable….if it were up to republicans these days, I guess we’re just supposed to walk society backwards until we find ourselves in the 50s?! Where I won’t even begin to list of the problematic laws that we’re in existence, ha….its so unsettling to think about what moves could be made next under a Republican led federal govt, but I won’t waste time thinking abt that
I had a ruptured ectopian pregnancy (in Europe) and almost bled out before they could get me to a hospital and on the table. The diagnosis was not clear and I wanted to wait. @@Lilmissrrt The problem though is a lot of these things are being pushed through without any voting at all. I man sure you can argue that they are being passed by people who were previously voted in but it still irks me.
Does it really surprise any of you that they revived a 160 year old law? These are the same people who quote a 250 year old Constitution as if it was written with AR15s in mind, and live their lives according to a 2,000 year old dusty tome of magical parables.
When they are trying to outlaw birth control as well, how the hell are people going to take care of themselves? That's not pro life that is just forced birth.
YES. My thoughts. They are worse than the Pope! (not that the church has any sane things to say about this). I can truly not understand why o why they are so OBSESSED with ruing women's lives that are needing an abortion.
And yet my partner and I desperately want to have a child, and soon we won't be able to because we've been trying to get pregnant via IVF, and we're hundreds of thousands of dollars deep already and they want to take that option away from us. I don't understand. Every child should be born into a family that is ready for them and wants them, and they're preventing that from happening on both ends--by forcing unwanted child to be born, and preventing wanted children from being conceived.
It’s not even about life or birth, it’s about control. (If it _was_ about life, they’d do something about the problem we have in this country where kids have to learn how to hide from sh00ters alongside learning math and writing.) In their minds, if you have sex (or are r@ped), you deserve whatever “consequences” occur. (Gotta love people who think of offspring as consequences for “bad choices”!) Women are supposed to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, not working and definitely not voting or having an opinion not fed to them by the men in their lives. Anyone who thinks the modern GOP is going to stop at bodily autonomy is delusional. Next it’ll be right to vote or something else until we have nothing left.
I believe the word you’re looking for is “abstinence”. The evangelical right believes that they can and should enshrine the Christian doctrine on procreation and marriage as law. I’m Catholic, and while I recognize what the Church teaches, I also recognize that it’s substantially less morally objectionable to prevent ovulation or fertilization than it is to prevent implantation, let alone terminate a living fetus by direct action. In my layman’s opinion, if someone outside the Church wants to indulge in carnal pleasure for its own sake, but is not willing or able to take on the burden of pregnancy and motherhood, then I would rather she have the means to suppress her ovulation if she so chooses. Some more empathy on the lawmakers’ part also would not go amiss.
Sex ed is so bad in this country that people in government probably think birth control is only for stopping pregnancy. I am not sexually active, but take birth control to manage my PMDD (PMS on steroids) and my ability to manage the world has been better with it. I live in Illinois, so I’m relatively safe for now. If I was in one of these backward ass states, and they took away my birth control, I would feel bad for my family and coworkers who would have to deal with me in that state of mind. It’s so sad to see all this go down and know I’m in my little blue state safe haven.

It’s more than abortion rights. It’s the right between drs and patients. It’s protection of rights for women and girls.

Why should the states get to decide and not the woman?
The party of small government sure expects some big things from government
However, I have to say here, as I've said elsewhere, that an important number of American women support Trump completely. It is women voting against the rights of other women and the only explanation, to me, it that they think THEY will still be able to get their abortions and this only affects people who don't look like them. They will be in for a rude awakening when the next law prohibits them to go outside without the company of a man or, God forbid, wear trousers.

Now if only the mainstream media would report on this issue like Seth just did.
Mark Simone Saying "They can just buy a bus ticket" reeeeeeally goes to show that he thinks taking away reproductive choice is something that will only affect poor people, and therefore, he doesn't care.
Yeah, he knows that the rich have always had ways to deal with inconvenient pregnancies, no matter what the law said.
I’m now convinced a lot of these men actually don’t understand what abortion is.
It’s not a piece of triple chocolate cake
Poor people are assumed to be responsible for their circumstances 😢
Exactly!
Too true, alas
Plus that the most draconian interpretation of this law would make the bus driver complicit in the abortion.
And this guy's very implicit bias telling us that women looking for an abortion would need to take a bus (seeing how using public transport is viewed in the US).
"Only a man would say it's no big deal"??? As a man, I don't recall ever thinking anything of the sort..

Well said.
Also, trans men
Oh, it gets even worse.
Well, we used to with the draft.

It’s not the government’s business what a woman and her doctor decide to do medically. You want the government knowing it deciding your medical decisions? Ted Cruz thinks he needs to have a say on what procedure is best for you.
@@Phil_Theekrit If it is okay for a pro-choice president to appoint explicitly pro-choice judges, which I believe, it is also okay for the opposite side to do so.
1:36 Trump's definition of "Pro-Life" is Sleeping around on his wife.
I wonder how many abortions Donnie has paid for in his lifetime??
Yes, Trump is Pro- life. His life not yours.
Trump is modern day Joseph Smith
@@lilpsyche6971love a good Mormon joke!
I really question who is the father of the last male..She has called 2 times to have the prenup changed.. Covering her you know what..
This show should come on EVERY evening instead of the boring news.
Trump** even said in an interview that he was for punishing a woman for getting an abortion!!???
He said it was the logical conclusion to the view that abortion is murder. And he's right. If you believe that there's no reason to let the woman get off free.
And where's the penalty for the man who gets a woman pregnant?
@@kykwiltz402 OMG Thank You

Seth should’ve played that clip. Showing that trump the rapist wants women to be punished.
I literally learned who Comstock (anti-sex and sex ed educator in charge of a bunch of mail censorship at national and state levels in the 19th century) was less than a week ago. By sheer coincidence, BS niche history is now incredibly relevant to how the country operates.
It is NOT a states rights issue! It is healthcare! There is no room for politics in healthcare. It is complicated and nuanced issue that is between an individual and their healthcare provider. Taking away healthcare options helps NO ONE.
Seth, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your solidarity and outrage.
Seth thank you for being intense and passionate on this video.
I’m a 64 year old grandma of three grand daughters, rump and republicans anger me so much.
WTF is wrong with them🤬🤬🤬🤬

@@someonehadtosayit3003it’s the type of passion we NEED if we want to get equality under the law and IN HOSPITALS for everyone in the country…..
Very scary direction for the country to be heading in. The overturning of Roe v Wade dealt a psychological blow
Hopefully EVERYONE voting knows this and votes to end this MAGA insanity!
And has already caused deaths.
Anyone who read Handmaid's Tale in the Seventies saw it coming.
It still irks me that laws that are incredibly unpopular and supported only by a very small minority of people can actually become laws and forced on everyone. This just shows how incredibly broken the system is.
Well said.

And reinforces how important voting is.
One of the better closer look segments. Absolutely nailed it
I've always really liked your views, but today I think I feel a lot of love for them

I was hearing it as Ringo.
(If it _was_ about life, they’d do something about the problem we have in this country where kids have to learn how to hide from sh00ters alongside learning math and writing.)
In their minds, if you have sex (or are r@ped), you deserve whatever “consequences” occur.
Outstanding closer look! One of the best in a long time, well done to Seth and the writers
