The manga is really popular in japan, and Season 1 sold really well, becoming Studio Orange's most know work. A reason season 2 would take so long is because they would have to make many new hair models, the part that requires the most time/work. Only so you have an ideia, they would have to make a hair for: Hemimorphite,Sphenie,Peridot,Watermelon Tourmaline, Ghost Quartz, a new one for Goshe and Morga, hair for Cairngorm, and many hairs for Lapis Lazuli (long, braided ans short).

Houseki no Kuni still has some of the best anime cinematography I’ve seen yet. They take full advantage of the 3D, down to those tiny bits of grass and leaves swirling about as the characters move through the field
Unfortunall, that scene was fully hand-drawn, meaning if the wanted to make a Season 2, they would have to spend a lot of time making the hair models for Ghost, Peridot, Sphene, Watermelon, Hemimorphite, Cairngorm and the moon people.
The way lunarians appear is very unique and unsettling as well. They burst out of thin air in an unknown way for unknown reasons. Its such a weird and powerfull treat.
Phos's journey reminds me of Eren's. And Houseki no Kuni goes like Shingeki no Kyojin. First start simple then go full on depression mode with themes of discrimination and hard decisions.
I've finished the manga and after seeing this first battle its crazy how different this scene feels like... SPOILERS Like how at 2:36, you can see adamant throwing pieces of himself, showing how he truly dispels the lunarians. And you can notice how the lunarians communicate with each other by whistling air. I love how they put all this in ep1... it was right there, in front of our eyes
SPOILERS And whats more of a hint its 3:15, when Adamant LITERALLY explains to Phos how to overcome her "weakneses". Listen carefully at what he says to her...
I actually find when the lunarian was rubbing its cheek against the shattered leg, it seemed so cute and heartbreaking at the same time, especially after hearing a really tragic theory about them Of course I felt more towards the gems who were about to be turned into jewerly 😂😂

And kongo sensei was a priest that could heal them (or end their suffering) but kongo got distracted by the gems and no longer tended to his duties, so the lunarians sought relieve by destroying the gems....(I'm not sure if that's how it went exactly, but it had something to do with the lunarians being corrupted)
The way they fight, the way they look and how they sound are what makes them so beautiful both visually and literally. Of course you’d want to harvest them if you’re a fan of anything shiny.
This anime is so unique and so original this deserves more love than those other animes that the only thing it makes it famous is the handsome/pretty characters
Notice how in the japanese version the gem’s voices are also androgynous. The English version is flawed because the gems have more feminine voices in it.

Man. Don't know what it is about Jouji Nakata's voice but it's always music to my ears. It's so deep and distinct that you can instantly recognise him the moment his character opens his mouth. Hope he's still in the voice acting game to voice Enrico Pucci when JoJo Part 6 arrives. :)

I just think there's parallels to be drawn here. The whole Lunarian thing almost look likes the colon fighting the native American for ressources. I know it isn't, I read the manga but there's really some sort of resemblance.

Also the french explorer never made it to India...that's why Canada exist... Again not saying it's about that but that there's a clear resemblance. Not gonna lie, the affect of the Lunarians in this remidns me of that one scene from The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, and it's always the best way one should animated the Lunarians.

Looking back on this after reading the manga, the "peppermint color that the Lunarians seem to love" mustt refer to the fact that such a deep color would be more visible for Kongo to see sparkling up on the moon compared to someone like Antarc
