Fun fact: Jim Henson was inspired to do these commercials this way because he hated coffee. He basically thought what was it going to take to get him to drink it and this is what it would take to get him to drink.

His rival had a theater named the Rose, which was built over a sewer, and created the line "a rose by any other name would smell just a sweet" as a jab at his rival.

This is actually not Kermit. Kermit already existed in a similar set of ads With a puppet named Mac for Claussen‘s bread. Mac would torture Kermit the way Wilkins tortures wonkins here.

There are two that are common for fencing. You mentioned the saber which is one, but the other one (the one dollar store Kermit was using) is known as a Rapier.

Glad you finally got to check out these commercials! My personal favorite out of all of these was the William Tell one (where Wilkins was supposed to shoot the apple on top of Wontkins' head with the bow and arrow). But they're all good.
Those puppets have seen a lot of abuse. You can just see the wear and tear on them.

Was not expecting you to react to this but I'm very glad you did. Even though some shorts didn't age well (cannibals and Indians) I would totally not mind if these types of commercials came back
they type of sword used for fencing varies but is usually a Saber or a Rapier, depending on they type of fencing being done. and yes, there is a difference between a Saber and a Rapier

For someone who loves wilkins coffee, Willkins sure dosent mind sponsoring other coffees
Yeah, like Nash's Coffee, Red Diamond Coffee, Community Coffee, and La Touraine Coffee. Not to mention Calso Water, Kraml Milk, Faygo Strawberry, Frank's Ginger Ale, and Frank's Orange Nectar.
Imagine the Mandela effect of watching one of the other versions and then later learning about the originals.
There was one commercial where they were selling bread, and even though Kermit gave the answer they wanted and was willing to try some, in response the other guy chomped down on his shoulder and Kermit screams.(So as it turns out you can't win)
Meanwhile, Folgers coffee is still out her being a problem with their advertising.

It's crazy how this was even advertised, but what I can tell you is that, Wilkins and Wontkins were also in other commercials marketing other products of coffee, hell they even marketed Bread. I'm telling you, these 2 were everywhere!
funny story, aparently, Jim Henderson himslef didn't drink coffee, so he decided tyo make ads based on what it would take to make him drink it.

I love how some of these ads imply that Wontkins actually does drink Wilkins and these commercials are just a S+M bit. I'm not sure how i feel about Wilkins coffee since i drink from coffee pods, but i adore these ads. Some of the best of all time
I read that if you sent in a lot of Wilkins Coffee can labels and some money you could get a pair of Wilkins and Wontkins dolls.
Ngl, that Party Line coffee ad woth a communist Wilkins and Wontkins was what really got me. Especially after Wilkins whispered "Two pounds at the back door" after yelling "Wilkins? THAT'S CAPITALIST COFFEE YOU TRAITOR." Because, while played up for laughs, that kind of stuff did happen in the Soviet Union at the time.
It took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to realize that "Snikliw" was *Wilkins* spelled *BACKWARDS.*
I don't know if it's just because of Wilkins threats scaring it into me, or from how hilariously dark these commercials are, but I am genuinely curious what Wilkins Coffee tastes like.
Then again I don't drink much coffee, and the stuff I do drink is from fast food places, iced, or cheap instant coffee. So I wouldn't have much to compare it with.
Plus they're probably not in business anymore, and even if they are, I doubt I can get it in Australia for a price that's worth it.
