Wow, Nice Job, Sean! One good thing about the Skydio 2, we can watch where you take yourself out so we can send search and rescue to bail you out after that crash and burn, LOL! The drone did a great job of tracking of you at slower speeds, which is a good thing in those icy conditions. Excellent work on the final edits with your 360 cam and Skydio 2 footage. You take care and sure glad you had your backcountry board with all the dry patches. I have to say there was lots of good coverage on the upper areas of your run. Take Care!
Thanks Steve. Yeah it did decently for dropping in elevation so quick. When I did that with the air 1 it lost me immediately. I'll have to go again with the air 2 and see what happens.

I just commented on a GMBN video that people should search for your Skydio content to learn about tracking and controlling one with the beacon, then find this one where you had all the problems. Not a ringing endorsement for it, lol.
This is pretty old now though. A lot of these bugs I’ve been worked out. I’ll have to make some new ones once the snow comes to see how much better it does or does not do a couple years later
It seems that since that last update, my Skydio no longer follows the beacon as well. And I have seen issues with gimbal shaking as well. I’m hoping they come out with a new firmware update that fixes the issues they created with last update. And it’s crazy to see you still snowboarding down the side of mountain, it’s almost beach season at the Jersey shore.
I guess the good news is if it was caused by a firmware update than they will be able to fix it with a future firmware update. it is warm here and no snow down the hill in town. it's about a 10-14 minute drive up hill to get to this spot.
I really like the Skydio 2 videos you have been doing. I am still getting to know it. After buying some ND filters for it, I was really impressed with the image quality. It has a few downsides (transmission system isn't great and inability to fly in low light), but it might be the most fun drone I have. The beacon adds another dimension. I live in the Phoenix area and it has been around 117 degrees, which is 13 degrees above the Skydio's maximum posted temperature. So I haven't been able to get out much with it. I am jealous of where you get to fly. Beautiful landscape.
Yikes. Thats hot. When I was just in tx filming the case landing the drone itself was so hot from the sun that I could not touch it for more than a few seconds. I do not typically get heat like that where I live so it was a first for me. More skydio content to come.

I lived in vail for a good few years and always try to roll through every other year or so, summer and eskate was super sick, i wanna ride vail pass next trip with my range monster and a skydio in tow here n there!

Did you ever create a newer video showing it following you down the mountain with better movement and tracking? If you have to change you style of sliding just so the drone can keep up, it's almost seems pointless doesn't it? Maybe it works better now in 2022?
Nice vid, but weird it loses you. I've seen other videos where it's absolutely unshakable. I wonder if the mountains are shielding the GPS signal, because even if the optical sensors lose you it should use the GPS to zero in on the tracking device.
the drop in elevation and the quick side to side seems to be the issue. any other activity i do in the mountains it stays with me. snowboarding and skiing you have to cut back and forth rapidly in sections. notice on the larger sweeping movements it stays with. Did you see my other videos with it not losing me ?

Thats a great question and hopefully skydio will see this and answer. They are pretty active on videos normally. I have some other tracking videos on a skateboard with a slower decline in elevation and it stayed with me even on switchback paths. I am more concerned with the shake that I was getting from the gimbal. That shouldn't happen at all.
It actually does follow elevation very well. Also there have been updates and this is a year ago when it first came out. Thing rocks. ..Will make more vids like this after we get more snow.

it seems to struggle with big elevation drops mixed with high speeds and cutting back and forth. much better than my dji drones have done when i brought them snowboarding. they lost me instantly. i'll try the air 2 soon and see how it does.

@@SeanOzz Reason I ask is the manual says don't fly it below 23 degrees F. I ski a ton and just got my skydio yesterday, but a lot of my runs have been in the teens temp-wise. So I'll have to wait until it gets a bit warmer here in Utah.

And it's not just about snowboarding. Personally, I do not like such shooting, I consider them unfit for nothing. Although this is a step forward, but so far my opinion is that it is a bit raw with such rolling videos, as if a drunk is shooting a video.

I have a bunch of other videos with it. They have done some updates and its working much better. However the new ski season starts tomorrow so I am anxious to do new snowboarding videos as soon as the terrain allows. In the meantime check out my other skydio videos.

Once you learn the beacon it works much better. For snowboarding fixed angle mode works better.

If the controller had a better signal then manually flying would be so awesome. I am working on a new skydio vs skydio video soon.

Maybe because you were not using the phone and the beacon? But the gimbal shake, that’s another issue.
This is an older firmware. The shake has been fixed since. The sudden change of direction throws it off. Ill be testing again this winter.

I’ve been using 360 cameras to simulate drone follow on the slopes. Some of the dji drones follow but not as good as the skydio.

I did some on an electric skateboard over summer with good results but there is not as much side by side motion on a skateboard.

No. I've done other videos since. Firmware updates have helped tremendously. I'm not waiting for more snow to try again.

Noticeable difference in color quality between your gopro and the skydio.
I find the skydio color in auto is much closer to gopro color than say a dji mavic.
You could take some time in post to match them pretty easy.
