I'm referring to the song. I've also heard of some cases where teens lost their life because of war. 8n the song, she clearly talks about her son not being able to reach his 20s. Then, clearly, he was in his late teens. Think about it
This hits really different when you’re in the Navy, and you see that we are slowly inching closer to war, and that your little brother is 17, and will have to register for selective service next year on his birthday as soon as he’s 18. And that if there was a draft, he’d be one of the first groups to go
This song is so impactful, especially it portrays so much about soldiers going to the war. The country I'm living, Vietnam, the wars, men were actually volunteered to become soldiers and fight for independence; they risk their life for the love of the country. Though of course, our wars ended up with massive casualities, many men couldn't promised to come home with their family.
“But he never even made it to his twenties” By far one of the saddest lines I’ve ever heard in a song, particularly because of how real this is for too many 😢

"We've a bunch of purple flowers to decorate a mommy's hero. Mourning in the aerodrome, the weather warmer, he is colder. Four men I uniform to carry home my little soldier." To all the mothers and families who lost their baby boys or anyone in stupid wars I am truly sorry.
This song makes me feel really connected to something like i listen and watch anything to do with ww2 and i have flashbaks of me being a 20 yr old man in war with an injured leg bcs i sometimes experience leg pains so i feel rlly idk connected and i get flashbacks..
You should probably get that checked out, just a suggestion. It might not be serious. Having flashbacks of ww2 seems very interesting but unnerving at the same time.
i feel like this song isn't a boy's mother POV, but rather from a neighbours who knew the boy and his family perspective. they're telling details about the family they were familiar with ('lack of money', 'boy being too young' feels like a discussion between family's friends.)
@@Adr3n0chr0m3But "My little Soldier" sounds more like something a Mother would say to her son tho While the line "We've a bunch of purple flowers to decorate a mammy's hero" sounds more like the neighbors speaking and mourning like they are all coming with flowers to the boy's funeral
@@heydat1guygavin395 i interpreted "my little soldier" as a nostalgic thing, like if neighbour and family's friends remembered soldier as a little child they knew for years that was very dear to them
Two of my uncles died very young in the Iran-Iraq war of the 80s. I wasn't even born when they died. My grandmother buried one son and had to bury another 8 years later. She never deserved that heartbreak. It feels like something that's ingrained in my family. I wish my grandmother never lost her sons and my dad never lost his brothers. I think about the children they could've had, maybe they would've looked like me. Maybe we would've grown up together
This song is so haunting yet so enchanting sounding, as if I'm contacting the spirits of all the dead soldiers in the battlefield and each one has a lot to say; thank you for making this amazing lyric video I really appreciate it!❤
I was lucky enough to have my great grandfather come back from nam in 73 but he always talked about his friends he made when I showed him this song he told me most of them fell like how this song said “army dreamers”
My father was in the military, yes. He had been a high ranked soldier, he fought hard and for many years. He has passed, this song reminds me of him, the way he had been fighting for his country. The lyrics “What a waste, army dreamers.” Remind me of him, his dream was this, he thrived for this and struggled many rough years, but what he got was death, he died on the battle field, I find myself visiting this song and even though it was created a few months ago, I think it’s relatable for me.
As a teenager, I had this thought. That I wished that armies weren't necessary. That they didn't exist. I said this to someone who was an EMT, who went to work with the military. I understand better why he didn't like that sentiment. A halfbaked, incomplete thought from a kid. Not even from their country. Who is very privileged. As an adult, I still feel that way, though. I wish that armies and the military were not necessary. That no one had to take up arms to protect the lives of innocents from people who want to do harm. That no one had to make friendships so strong that you'd die for each other, only for that to actually happen because of the occupation. That no one had to come home feeling disconnected from the people around them because still they carry around all that horror from being deployed. I can better form the thought now. And at the end of it, remember to thank those people for taking on the things that break so many, keeping millions of people like me from having to go through it. I wish I could apologize to that person.
Man i cant help but tear up when you think about War and the waste of life it brings. No matter where we're from, most young army dreamers who fought against each other would've been friends, Chucking back a few colds bottles and cracking jokes if placed in different circumstances... Come quickly, *Lord Jesus*
@@AggressiveSpaghetti Woah there no need to be pressed! Sure, it is a SONG written as a tribute to soldiers dying on war, but that doesn't mean you cannot link it to a fictional background where the same scenario occurs. (Btw, the character I was referring to was literally a child soldier)

This hit hard because deep down inside I kinda want to join law enforcement , I didn’t tell anyone. My parents want me to be a doctor or a lawyer, father says lawyer, my mother says doctor bc I’m good at bio and an excellent debater or so they say. I think both medicine and law are fun but I’m indecisive and don’t know what career path to pick. I’m seventeen and next year will be my last high school year. What sparked this sudden urge to join law enforcement was this game I got as a gift a week or two ago. My father gifted me the latest RE4 remake since I was doing well on my exams. The game is really fun, I have a weak heart but I personally felt a shift in myself. Like I’m not as frightened by things as I was before. I’m so indecisive a few months ago I wanted to be an astronaut. I don’t know what I want to be when I’m of age. Honestly everything seems so fun to do.
You're only 17! We're the same age. I've been wanting to be a paramedic for a while now perhaps a year or two but yes you'll figure it out and if you don't like things you can try something new. Research the jobs you'd like to do because that can actually help weed out the ones you're not as keen on! Good luck with everything :)
In my opinion, you’re stressing over nothing. You’re only 17, you have so much time to see what you want to do with your life. In other words, grab life by the balls and keep going.
@@sandrasorto8375 Thank you, I’ll try. I’m just very worried because I want to make my parents feel proud, and I want to do it as soon as possible. I feel that it’s the least I owe them. I love them very much and I want to impress them by attending a prestigious university and excelling at my future career. This summer was so jam packed with extracurricular activities and SAT prep. I want to ace the SAT on my first attempt (hopefully). I’ve somewhat settled on becoming a lawyer. I feel I sorta have a knack for it though I’m not very confident.
As a veteran it breaks me every time i hear about those who don't come back as well as those who do only to be used to promote the idea that any of this is okay. In the end we are all somones child and lose is lose. We are all human right and wrong is decided only by whos telling the story.
As of now, I'm not even in college or near the age to go, but I've been told to go to the army. Finding this song and about the meaning kind of scares me a bit.
I don't understand the coincidence i just stumbled upon this song and just 10 mins ago.. i was reading a thousand splendid suns just now and read about Ahmed and Noor and all i think about is Mammy singing this.. out of all the ugly things and humans created, war is the ugliest
I swear i heard someone shouting "Mom!" when the person says "What could he do?" and it gets louder after each "What could he do?" And also, right after "Mom!" I hear something like "Aim!" And also, i may be delusional, but istg i hear someone shout "Fire!" A few seconds after 2:20 or something
I’m a woman, I''m 23 years old and I'm french. I'm going to join the army soon. My goal is to have money, to have the financial means to take care of my mother. Listening to this music makes me feel a little... sad. But the army became my only way to help my mother so I have no choice. I can't find my place anywhere, so I choose to live for my mother.
Big part of soldiers are forced to join because of money issues or other stuff, war is only leaving corpes behind and grieving families and no honor badge will bring loved ones back.
I found this song around the same time we started studying the Vietnam War in History at my school. We read a book, which was a collection of short stories, called “The Things They Carried” written by a Vietnam veteran. Listening to this song while reading one of the short stories about a young soldier they lost was unbearable.
Our little baby girl is coming home after going out. Where I once stood tall leaves empty walls and broken memories. Mourning in a cold embrace The weather’s warm, but I am colder One man to take me down A broken, sweet girl What could I do? (Should’ve not visited) But I didn’t even know then (Should’ve known better) But I wasn’t as clever than I know now (Should’ve spoke up) But I was too afraid. Oh my lord, i’m a dreamer. Oh my lord, i’m a dreamer.
Is it just be or does the song seemed rushed at times? Like how war rushes many to an early death? Its starts slow and peaceful and gets more and more turbulent, until it settles down, and eventually ends. Even the humming at the end that sounds like someone crying. So sad.
My grandfather joined the Filipino army, when he was 17. he wasn't in his twenties yet. he cant be a politician, due to corruption and bad education. he cant be a rockstar, because we were poor. but now, for him at age 70, he is pretty doing good. Just never give up.
There's so many boys who died without wars, just serving at military service, sometimes by misunderstandings between soldiers, sometimes by injuries that they're got while in military service. Sometimes by keeping the area they're forced to keep from criminals. I feel sad for all soldiers who died by wars or just by being in military service. 😢 You all heroes! RIP 🕊
I showed this my mom. She said what a lovely song and did a little dancing and when I explained what it was about. She said why would you make me dance for this huh?
Surprising that so many people in the comments instead relate this song to fictional situations than actual wars. Seems like we are way too sheltered that war seems like an intangible concept to us.
I get what you mean, but at the end of the day it is a song so there isn't exactly a limit for its interpretation. (I personally do not like the idea of war, so I am thinking of a fictional scenario because I like that safe distance. Again I do understand the tragedy of war and I do not disregard it, I simply choose not to fully embrace it. )
@@Invel-967 Art can be interpreted in many ways; you'd be correct. But there's somewhat of a moral unspoken rule that if the song is about a political bias, it's to be treated as it's meaning.
@@dulcetscreaming You put it very nicely. To be fair, I think that if we choose a more loose interpretation while still showing respect to the tribute and the purpose of the song we are within moral rules and guidelines 😌.
I see this song for a lot fictional stories that are just as dark, when you take all the fancy details, its someone who never got to make it to their true potential, and a beautiful life wasted.
Weird considering how the world has never known peace since before 9/11 if even then. But again art can be interpreted in many ways... death of the author and all. But yes looking at this, this is a anti war song lamenting a mother's pain after her son comes home to her not by her door but by casket. But again people can interpret it differently as they wish. As what is art without the ability to interpret things differently

This song reminds me of the friends my grandfather used to tell me about, the ones he lost overseas.
"what could he do? Should've been a rockstar" "he didn't had the money for the guitar" "What could he do? Should've been a politician" "but he never had a proper education" "What he could do? Should've been a father" "But he never even made it to his twenties" I relate to this so much, it hurts.

Man, that sucks. Shoutout to all the teenagers who lost lost their life in war.
@@Toxic_choclate wth..... when?
I'm referring to the song. I've also heard of some cases where teens lost their life because of war. 8n the song, she clearly talks about her son not being able to reach his 20s. Then, clearly, he was in his late teens. Think about it
@@idzbbyboy in ww1 and 2 and even more recent wars 19 and 18 year olds die while fighting
This hits really different when you’re in the Navy, and you see that we are slowly inching closer to war, and that your little brother is 17, and will have to register for selective service next year on his birthday as soon as he’s 18. And that if there was a draft, he’d be one of the first groups to go
Fuck war.
You aren’t seeing combat in the navy unless you’re a corpsman
“but he never ever made it to his twenties”
This line hits hard…
Let us stand in silent respect for all those Army Dreamers,
Legends that never got a chance to shine
After I realized what was the meaning. This song didn't fail to make me cry
Did men received some privileges as the class that did that?
“But he never even made it to his twenties”
By far one of the saddest lines I’ve ever heard in a song, particularly because of how real this is for too many 😢
Idk why it took me so long to realize she's singing about a guy who died in army and that's why it's called army dreamers.
How did it take you so long, it's so obvious 😭

"We've a bunch of purple flowers to decorate a mommy's hero. Mourning in the aerodrome, the weather warmer, he is colder. Four men I uniform to carry home my little soldier." To all the mothers and families who lost their baby boys or anyone in stupid wars I am truly sorry.
This song makes me feel really connected to something like i listen and watch anything to do with ww2 and i have flashbaks of me being a 20 yr old man in war with an injured leg bcs i sometimes experience leg pains so i feel rlly idk connected and i get flashbacks..
On my left leg I feel pain
I also feel connected to this sond because my granduncle died in WW2 when he was only 19
You should probably get that checked out, just a suggestion.
'four man in uniform to carry home *my* little soldier' feels like whole neighborhood liked the boy and were friends with his family.
@@Adr3n0chr0m3But "My little Soldier" sounds more like something a Mother would say to her son tho
While the line "We've a bunch of purple flowers to decorate a mammy's hero" sounds more like the neighbors speaking and mourning like they are all coming with flowers to the boy's funeral
That is so sad. Rip ❤🕊

Army Dreamers single off the album Never for ever released in 1980. 44 years ago. Kate was 22 years old. Music and lyrics by Kate Bush.
This is my favorite ❤️ the vibes 🎉
Realizing the meaning is so sad im crying this is so sad

At almost the very end of the song you can hear "mommy's darling". I love this song. The song of a mother's love and grief of her son.
I hope you'll find your path. Good luck!
@@pineapple-pop9936Thank you :) I’ll take your advice and see what jobs I actually want to do. Thanks

As what is art without the ability to interpret things differently
i met this song with my son and i love it ❤
