A friend recommended me doing a Photobook just for myself, not to annoy others but just for me. And it does exactly that, i see the pictures, have the memory and remind myself of the good things i had.
Love your channel, James! The videos have a great vibe: just a calm, humble guy taking photos in wonderful landscapes. Even though I'm not much into hiking myself, your videos are always a great escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Wishing you all the best for this following year, keep it up!
JAMES iv loved your channel , i binged 11 hours of it over the past few weeks , i always loved photography but never thought to go out and shoot myself . brought a SONY a7 ii with a 28-70mm f3.5. decided to shoot up Croydon, Woldingham , and tomorrow im in London for the day. somehow iv gotten 500 photos over the past week , edited about 30 , posted maybe 10 of them and the result has me exploring so far and wide, i cannot tell you how mutch i love this. BIG BIG THANK YOU and happy new year to you!
what fun being up there above the clouds; great hiker photo and lovely ones of the light. hope your knee is better. heartwarming reasons for your favourites of the year. significant difference, i thought, relatively speaking re. this channel, very very cool.
Love the absolute honesty that every photographer can relate to on new purchases … and no excuses needed on the images; they were all great, but mainly because of your personal connection. Can’t wait to see where 2022 takes you, mate.
Provided you shoot against the sun often enough, the 70-200 f/2.8 is worth having because even the original E-mount f/2.8 was known to have a lot higher of contrast when shooting into a light source than the f/4 and better flare control. I think you'd have had a lot more trouble editing that sunset shot if you'd used the f/4. And honestly? No really happy memories from photos this year except for one. I accomplished the single goal I'd set myself: redo one of my favorite shots from 2019 the _right_ way. It was a blue hour shot of an all glass building next to a river, taken nearly dead on in the front. It had near total cloud cover during blue hour, just enough to get some pink and purple in the sky. I redid it last month at sunset with much less cloud cover and a front three-quarter angle to hide the clutter currently beside the building. I got to keep my pink and purple and gained blazing orange.
Happy New Year to you, James. And everyone else here in the Popsys-Community. Wish you all great memories for 2022. And ejoy your photography no matter the gear and locations.
Thank you for your videos James. I look forward to them. Although I know it's a lot of work to put them together, and there are probably days you don't want to make them and just want to shoot, I hope you know that there are a lot of us out here who the videos help. Both from a learning standpoint and just from a joy standpoint. Thanks for sharing your joy. Thanks also for signing the books I just received from you and for the handwritten note in the box. I have all three books now and really treasure them.
Happy New Year James. Good to see some of your memories from 2021 and I will certainly be looking forward to more of your videos this year.. Thank you.
I reckon a lot of people, they'd pick their favourite photos just based on the actual photo itself, or the subject. How they nailed the technical aspects, or whatever. I love how for you it's the memory they evoke. That's a really nice way to look at it. Happy new year.
love you reasoning for your favourite photos! :) couldn't agree more that the best photos are the ones that trigger a memorable moment! I love the fact that no one else will ever understand! That is indeed the beauty of it! :)
Hi, only came across your channel a month back and have watched many of your past posts! Really great presentation and content… thankyou and all the best to you and yours 2022.
James, I don't shot a lot of landscape anymore. Now it's primarily shots of birds in their environment. Which I suppose one could argue borders on landscape sometimes. But anyway, I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your channel. The dry humor has me laughing so hard. And the images are superior. You are correct about photos and memories. Isn't that the best reason to take them.
I love that it was the story and memory they evoked that determined your favourite images of the year, and not necessarily the impressiveness of the images of themselves. There's a powerful lesson in that.
Happy New Year James! Sorry you buggered up your knee! I might go through my photos from last year tonight! The weather has been terrible over here so I haven't been out in days.
G O A T ! Low key funniest out of you yet! In all sincerity, I appreciate your videos because you share you thoughts out loud as you work for a composition. That, to me, a beginner, is not only incredibly helpful, it is also encouraging and motivating. Thanks and happy new year!
I have to admit, I stopped this video roughly half-way through. I was inside feeling all sorry for myself because I had been sick, but you inspired me to say "screw it" and pack up my a7RIV and head out and shoot some telephoto landscapes. I am so glad I did, because the fog rolled in and I was able to get some moody woodland shots. I don't have the 70-200, but I used the 100-400 GM and I am so happy with the shots I got.
Happy new year James!! Thanks for all the entertainment, laughs and joy that you’ve provided me and the rest of the gang over the past year!! Your notifications of a new video always make my day and I appreciate your content greatly. Hope you are well and have a wonderful new year with your family 🖤🖤
Im new to the Sony clan, and have just sold a kidney and grabbed myself the a7IV, 70-200 2.8 II and the Sigma 24-70, I cannot wait to get out and get some snaps, glad youre enjoying the new lens! The lack of weight of the lens is a real plus. Love your vids, keep it up Josh
Sunrise/sets above the mountain clouds is the absolute best! Sadly I live in Denmark, where mountains are a myth 😅 my home country though, the Faroe Islands 😊 a place I recommend you to visit and hike in 😊
I might have to visit Snowdonia in a week or so when I'm not working. I'm missing waking up to mountains everyday. Having lived in New Zealand till recently.
All the best James, great vid and images. I had a day around (misty) Snowdonia last week - my favourite shot was of the Lledr valley filling with fog at blue hour.
I have the f4 version and I can't see the need for spending twice as much for one stop of light. My f4 70-200 is a very good lens. Anyway, I enjoy your videos and I wish you the best for you and your family for the coming year. Cheers!
That Sony F4 is nowhere near as sharp, has far less contrast , is slower to auto focus and one stop is a lot more than you believe. It's difference between ISO 3200 vs 6400. It's a much superior lens
I mean... you just swapped kits! Of course you're reviewing what you've got in your bag now! Loving it. Keep up the content. You're helping me shop for my new sony kit too because I've just jumped from a Nikon D500 and D600 kit.
James….the photo of the hiker is amazing..!!! Well worth your effort. Could you do a video of how you take your portraits….?! Thank you for all your content and inspiration over the last year…!
i'm saving up for this lens right now. i was about to invest in a nice 50mm prime, but i realized when going through lightroom i always shoot at 70+mm in the pictures i really like afterwards
Primes are primes. Zooms have equal compromises as just as the positives (only the reach actually) So... if you have 50mm prime you won't be able to go to 70mm anyway, haha. My point is that the best camera/lens is the one you got. 🤌
Still waiting for my 70-200gm2, but honestly the 50GM would still be the best lens in the system, and well worth getting it first before the 70-200gm2. It's crazy sharp wide open means you could easily crop in to 100mm equivalent without much IQ loss.
Great video! I’ve lived following your channel in 2021. Just got the LUMIX 35-100mm f2.8 and am excited to try it out. Needless to say, this video has inspired me to get out and use it as much as possible. Happy 2022!
Great to start the year with another video from you like most other Saturdays. You are justified in having selected those pics. I love nice vistas as much as the next guy but it's easier to tell a story or invoke feelings on photos containing human elements. That said, the castle one is definitely a banger. Happy New Year James!
Found myself smiling about having such a blast with my new compact variable-aperture-but-pulse-motored 55-300 for Pentax APS-C, when you just ditched your F4 G Master for the F2.8. But then enjoy what gives you fun, and don't feel guilty about it. After all, life is short and precious, and it shows in our photographs when we're having fun, right? BTW, I bet that glorious inversion was giving you at least as much adrenaline as being able to shoot it with your new lens. Happy New Year to you & yours, James. 🙂
Happy new year from Hawai'i 🎉🎍🎆 Have you thought about trying/renting the Tamron 35-150? &/or the Sigma 150-600? Since you moved to Sony & speaking of "exotic" (or interesting focal length lenses).
Wow, what a view. That inversion looked magical. Happy New Year James and thank you for sharing all your adventures to us. I really enjoy your videos with all the humor and incredible images. All the best.
I have the slightly less exotic sony 70-200 2.8 version 1... it's a nice lens, a little noisy focus unless in c-af tracking then it's quiet. don't use enough to warrant the upgrade but would be nice. happy new year, your adventures are inspirational.
Really agree on your thoughts on photos - they hold personal memories and feelings. And loved the sheep photo! Much more interesting to me than photos of mountains and "vistas" which can look impressive but really invoke no emotions. Is there any advantage of F4 vs. F2.8 when most landscapes are shot at perhaps F11-F16? Optics are better on the GM vs. G lens of course, but does the F2.8 matter?
Well done on your favourites all being base don the memories they bring rather than the actual shot - often overlooked. After both my parents died I went through old photos taken by either my dad or my grandad. The think that stood out is how important photos of family and friends are. And also to include in some photos cars and people - the two speak to the era the photo was taken in.

A friend recommended me doing a Photobook just for myself, not to annoy others but just for me. And it does exactly that, i see the pictures, have the memory and remind myself of the good things i had.
The pic at 2:09 is like one of the most beautiful shots I’ve ever seen and you act like it’s nothing! So talented!

Definitely agree with you there. Photos capture memories and it makes it all worth the while

Happy New Year James, and thanks for the memories!
Happy New Year! All the best to Emily and baby! Thanks for many enjoyable moments, your humour and keep going! All the best from down under! Annie
That shot of castle in the middle of the river is beautifully breathtaking. Keep Going.
Wow what a place, fantastic sunset shot.
Cracking video mate, really liked your reflection on the year at the end. Here's to a good 2022!
Thank you for sharing those lovely shots! Happy New Year to you and all your family.

Nice. I plan to get out and shoot a lot more in 2022. Just bought myself the a7c with the 24-70 lens.

Ah man, this is amazing; experiencing a cloud inversion is one of the top things on my bucket list. I love this!
Happy New Year from a fellow Mason owner. I enjoy your videos - in a busy space your honesty and humour stands out from the crowd
I love that all your favourite shots were emotional memories, not just the technically best images.
I love that it was the story and memory they evoked that determined your favourite images of the year, and not necessarily the impressiveness of the images of themselves. There's a powerful lesson in that.
I'm with you there, James, on the sheep! Every photos looks better with a sheep or two!
Such an incredible view!
Happy New Year. Have a wonderful 2022 and keep healthy!
James Popsys... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Happy New Year James. Keep up the wonderful and entertaining work with the channel.

I love how the license plate number starts of with the letters RGB , whilst simultaneously there is a beautiful rainbow in the background ...

@@kanaheiusagi just keep it a 4.0 f not 2.8 cause the 4.0 seems to always be sharper
Dammit James, I’ve been trying to talk myself out of buying this lens!
Thanks for another great video, hope the knee gets better quickly
I only started getting into photograph in like august 2021 but I plan on doing a lot more of it this year, assuming we are allowed to travel and stuff
Great video! I’ve lived following your channel in 2021. Just got the LUMIX 35-100mm f2.8 and am excited to try it out. Needless to say, this video has inspired me to get out and use it as much as possible.

Nice one James, enjoy the new lens👍 Happy New Year👍👍
Happy new year from Hawai'i 🎉🎍🎆 Have you thought about trying/renting the Tamron 35-150? &/or the Sigma 150-600? Since you moved to Sony & speaking of "exotic" (or interesting focal length lenses).
Ah my back yard.. I live only 20 minutes away, would be great to bump into you one day!
Your last book is amazing! Got it as Christmas gift and I recommend to everyone here to check it out
Happy new year James!
Wow, what a view. That inversion looked magical. Happy New Year James and thank you for sharing all your adventures to us. I really enjoy your videos with all the humor and incredible images. All the best.
hey, what clip/tool do you use to attach camera to backpack like that? Thanks.
it looks a lovely lens , ive got the 75-300mm but i think mines the f4 , but i love it lol , happy new year to you & your family . 🎆🥂
Happy New Year. I hope the knee has healed up.
I have the slightly less exotic sony 70-200 2.8 version 1... it's a nice lens, a little noisy focus unless in c-af tracking then it's quiet. don't use enough to warrant the upgrade but would be nice. happy new year, your adventures are inspirational.
