I had a smudge on my TV and went to grab my phone cleaner kit- all that did was make it 10 times worse. I quickly ran out to my local hardware store got the blue towels and some distilled water and good as new! thanks man!

@@TightWadDIY I used a Targus LCD Digital / Video Camera (Universal use) with a blue microfiber cloth to clean my new Samsung QLED Q60A tv screen (it had some fingerprints and I think foam stain) however I notice the smudges became wider and left like Streaks post cleaning…I am afraid to be touching this new tv (the way to see this streaks is by pointing a flashlight directly at it). I've been using this same method for years to clean up my televisions and computer monitors. Glad to see someone finally made a video to show how easy this technique is and how cheap. Also, if you don't have distilled water, filtered water will work as well. Then again I get my water from a natural spring on my property, so this application may not work with filtered tap from your municipal water line.

I am hoping you can give me some advice?
    Memorial Day 2020,
i got an LG 70 inch TV. It's such a great device.
    It's performance exceeded my expectations.
I live in a small, single apartment,
with an open floor plan. Whenever i cook
anything with oil, i turn on the cheap yet
fictional ventilation fan above the stove.
I also place a clean, never been used plastic shower curtain over the screen when i cook with oil. I also make sure to ALWAYS place the same side of the shower curtain to the screen, as to not get any vaporized grease that may have accumulated from previous times i have cooked on the outside of the curtain.
Yet still, i saw tiny dots of cooking oil
platters on the TV screen. A few are
smudged in a thin, linear formation,
not enough to notice when the TV is on,
however i can see them all CLEARLY,
when i turn off the lights at night, and shine
a flashlight on to the screen.
    I discovered this buy chance.
I am NERVOUS to even attempt a spot
clean on the 70' inch screen. I also have a
40' Samsung SmartTV that i made the mistake of cleaning without knowing it
also had tiny spots of accumulated grease vapor from cooking inside such a small apartment unit.
My dilemma, do i not clean the large screen,
and let more vaporized cooking grease get
on to the screen, or do i attempt to clean
it, and possibly make it worse...??
The ironic thing about having such a
great TVs like i've got, is that it's such
a DELICATE piece of technology in regards
to simply being able to keep the screen
    dust and grease print free.
As much as i love this newer TV technology,
I long for the days when TVs had glass screens, which were by comparison to
LED screens, so easy to clean.
    Sigh....

    Microfiber cloth only!!
And only the super smooth ones, not even the sort of Velcro looking ones!
Tiny scratches from disposable “cloths” or “towels” can leave tiny scratches that will make the screen hazy over time.

I have TV screen cleaner for LCD, PDA etc. with the TV off I sprayed it on a smooth cloth, wiped it, still there. The thing is, no one touches the TV screen so how they got there, I don't know.. One question. Is it okay if I clean my LCD monitor with optical microfiber cloth and before cleaning them use my breath to blow away the loose dust particles on the screen? Is blowing with my breath safe? I was worried about getting moisture in the screen. Regards

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  3 года назад

I wouldn’t worry about the moisture as much as I would other particles in your saliva. Remember blowing in NES games to make them work? That caused corrosion over time due to the sugary drinks and candy residue in our mouths!

    • @gameranch1995
      @gameranch1995 3 года назад

@@TightWadDIY I get that but I'm very careful when I do that about my mouth being clean and about the saliva too. It's just blowing air from my mouth to dust off the loose dust particles, wouldn't it be safe?

Absolutely WRONG. This is a great idea for when your tv screen is jacked up and a mess. But Continuous use of these HEAVEY DUDTY shop towels will scratch your flat screen and it puts micro scratches in it. You will not notice it for a while. But keep doing it and see how your tv screen looks. Distilled water and a new micro fiber towels that are made for glass.

Yes DO NOT clean ant screen when on unless its glass. i work repairing TVs and when a tv or laptop is on it produces heat due to the back light or LEDS When it is on cleaing can damage the screen and causes pressure marks a lot more than if the TV was cold. You should always leave your screen off for 1 hour prior to cleaning even more so if it is a damp cloth also leave for about 30 minutes once cleaned because any residue left on the screen even if you cant see it will cause a smudge marl like a purple blotch. I have seen that a lot working with QLED tvs from Samsung. Samsung is by far the worst of the bunch to clean as the anti glare coating is so fragile.
