  • The President of the People's Patriotic Party is calling for Zimbabwe President Emerson Mnangagwa to be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court. It's accusing him of human rights violations. This comes as there are claims of harassment ahead as the country looks towards its elections. We are now joined by Samuel Chasi, People's Patriotic Party President.

    SADC:
    The problems of one country are the problems of all its neighbors. All components in a region are trading partners, defense partners and social economic partners. The only way....one way to fix this region is new political blood, a kind of politician who cares only for the future and not for glory. A richer region means everyone wins but that comes with consequences for the ruling class too, for once the masses have power and wealth they can easily depose the regimes as well.
    Edit: Referendums should be a norm for a while, the political system we use was founded by the romans to curb dictatorships and power grabs but alas even Rome fell to the whims of the few.

    • @MM-np4md
      @MM-np4md Год назад +1

      Intresting viewpoint. It's actually true that the suffering of one country translates into difficulties of another, economic dormance of one can lead to lost opportunity for another... Put yourself in the shoes of the president of a country in SADC. Suppose you desire for all SADC members to prosper, but you recognise that for some countries their presidents are the biggest roadblock. How would you go about Relating with this country/ those countries, would you outright call them out on their crimes or would you try to get them to do right things (which might gain them political mileage but would also cause benefits to that country's economy and people, but with the same president) 🤔

    • @dwainecana
      @dwainecana Год назад

      @@MM-np4md The political landscape in this region is flawed because there is no true direction. Many nations are socialist/communist leaning with capitalist quirks mean while the masses are disconnected from the governments.
      Presidents are useless, to fix any country it has to start on a local level, from villages to towns to cities. The best a President can do is passing bills and legislature that promotes a safe environment for international investment. A united states of Africa is foolish but economic regions that work on the same principles like the EU can help solve your question. For example if SADC share a currency and place the reserve bank in Switzerland or maybe even Canada under a non aligned organization that will strong arm certain entities into making progress. Sure corruption won't end but the wheels would start rolling.
      The advantage of Africa is we don't have to go through the same industrialization the west did but we can skip straight into streamlined tec. We best controll our population and prepare for climate change and desertification.

      Not even forcefully, but from diplomatic strategies which are paused by the geography of SADC, need we go far? At the height of South Africa's struggle for independence, as a young man (19 years of age at time), I cut short my travel from Bulawayo to Gaborone to help a young white teenager from South Africa' students uprisings cross into Botswana in the Rhodesian Special Branch infested train and got off in Francistown to help her locate an ANC official or sympathiser resident there who was recieving and facilitating their onward travel by plane to Zambia, this after sleeping in a motel in Francistown as the train gets there late. I was 19 at the time, and to me this was very important as I knew well that she was likely to be captured and I saw her as very brave when she approached and asked to talk to me in the trains dinning car. So people reflect on how some very important milestones in the political world unfolded, some without even a single short being fired but very impactfull even in the world stage.

    Without detracting anything from the dignified suffering people of Zimbabwe, the opposition failed Zimbabweans in the following respects:
    1. It was the urban opposition members who marched in the streets in support of the coup. ZANU PF supporters are in the rural areas and did not come to town.
    2. It was the opposition MPs who initiated and supported the impeachment of Mugabe.
    3.The opposition raised the middle finger to SADC when the regional body wanted to intervene in opposition to the coup.
    3.The opposition did not oppose the constitutional application that was filed by the coup leaders.This application legitimised the coup.
    4.The top opposition leadership attended the inauguration of the coup President.
    Had the opposition not commited all the above mistakes by supporting the coup,it could
    have been hamstrung at infancy.
    They can't be heard to say the coup was illegal under the circumstances when they actively participated. Zimbabweans deserve better than this.

Next time you hear indigenes speak seek wisdom not empty arguments, even if they are here they will be beaten, maimed, arrested or killed. Do you know what short or long sleeve mean in zw politics? Did you not see Hopewell a journo in prison uniform? Have you ever been to a scenario whereby if anyone will vote an opposition party the whole community must identify the leftist or face the brutal consequences? Here voting is a process given time not credit. Even if we take millions of wherever you are to compete ZANU you will lose. You think they have not voted in ZW before? ubathatha njani kani, they know- where was SADC when MDC won with 52% 2002? we dont want small talk in these affairs-rest at least you have grace we have reality of SAn interference

      That Beitbridge border, the most paying means to the Zimbabwe government purse, if closed, we wouldnt last 2 weeks without that government committing seriously to address and commint to solutions especially electoral reforms, the diaspora vote and 100% SADC electoral supervision and vote outcome pronouncements; but disperation on this need does get wattered down by ANC/Zanu pf sisterwood, protest to close the border by Cosatu at Beitbridge border was once meet with a 200 meter SAPS buffer, how else would this strategic political tool have been effective? When the coup was underway in Harare, authoritative shuttle diplomacy forays took place to cause the most likely opposition with enough military muscle within SADC, and with enough political muscle to have achieved following, was talked into giving aproval nod to what was unfolding in Harare. So how else could this be ever delt with when diplomatic horizons extend that far in defence of these liberation movements governments. SADC as a regional power block authority doesnt help common people where real problems exist, its a pity.
